Microsoft Stream is now part of Microsoft 365 rather than a separate video-storage service. Videos are stored and governed as files in SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, Teams, or related Microsoft 365 locations.
For most organizations, the current Microsoft 365 video entry point is the Clipchamp homepage. You can also open a video directly from its SharePoint, OneDrive, or Teams location. The account you use and the file’s sharing permissions determine whether you can view it.
Open Microsoft Stream from Microsoft 365
- Go to m365.cloud.microsoft.
- Sign in with your work or school Microsoft 365 account.
- Select the app launcher icon—the nine-dot button in the upper-left corner.
- Select Clipchamp.
- If Clipchamp is not shown, select More apps and search for Clipchamp or Stream.
Depending on your organization’s Microsoft 365 interface, the app may still be labeled Stream. That entry leads to the current Microsoft 365 video experience. The homepage can help you find videos and Teams meeting recordings, view content shared with you, create screen or webcam recordings, manage playlists, and open video-editing projects.

Use the direct Microsoft Stream URL
For standard commercial Microsoft 365 tenants and GCC tenants, open:

Sign in with the organizational account that has access to the video. Do not use a personal Outlook.com, Hotmail, or Microsoft account unless the video was specifically shared with that account.

GCC High and DoD environments use separate Microsoft 365 entry points. The standard commercial URL may not work for those tenants.
Open a specific Stream video
If someone sent you a video link, you do not need to open the Stream homepage first.

- Select the shared video link.
- Sign in if Microsoft prompts you.
- Choose the work or school account to which the file was shared.
- If the video opens, play it from the SharePoint, OneDrive, or Teams page.
The important distinction is that the video’s permissions come from the underlying file. Calling a video a “Stream video” does not grant access. If the file is in a private SharePoint library or someone’s OneDrive, you need permission to that file or its containing location.
Find videos in OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams
OneDrive for Business
Open your organization’s OneDrive from Microsoft 365 and locate the video in My files or Shared. Select the file to play it. A video recorded or uploaded by an individual is often stored in that person’s OneDrive.
SharePoint
Open the relevant SharePoint site and then the document library containing the video. Select the video file. Videos used by a department or project are commonly stored in a SharePoint document library so that the team can manage access centrally.
Teams
For a channel recording or shared team video, open the relevant team and channel. Check the channel’s files or the meeting-related location. Teams recordings are stored in Microsoft 365 storage locations, and access follows the membership and file permissions associated with the meeting or team.

Embedded videos
A video embedded on a SharePoint page, Teams tab, Viva Engage post, or internal site still checks the permissions on its source file. If the page loads but the player reports that the video is unavailable, the source file may not be shared with you.
What you need to access Microsoft Stream
Current Stream video capabilities are available to Microsoft 365 customers with plans that include SharePoint and OneDrive. Microsoft lists video and audio upload and playback across small-business, enterprise, education, GCC, GCC High, and DoD plans, although individual features vary by plan and cloud environment.
Discovery, transcripts, the Stream start-page experience, and other features are not identical in every tenant. Your administrator may also prevent an app from appearing in the Microsoft 365 launcher even when the organization has the relevant services.
Fix common Microsoft Stream access problems
The app is missing
First try app launcher > More apps, then search for Clipchamp and Stream. If neither appears, possible causes include:

- You are signed in to the wrong Microsoft 365 tenant.
- Your license does not include SharePoint or OneDrive.
- Your administrator has not assigned the app or has removed it from the launcher.
- The app is available but not pinned for your account.
Try the direct URL for your environment. If it still fails, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to verify your license, tenant, SharePoint access, and app availability.
“Access Denied,” “403 Forbidden,” or “You don’t have permission”
These errors normally indicate a permissions or sign-in problem rather than a video-format problem.
- Open an InPrivate or Incognito browser window.
- Sign in with the exact work or school account used to receive the link.
- Ask the owner to share the individual video with that account.
- If access was just granted, wait up to 30 minutes for permissions to replicate.
- If the problem continues, ask an administrator to check Microsoft 365 admin center > Health > Service health.
Signing out of other Microsoft accounts can also help when the browser has selected a personal account or an account from another organization.

“This video isn’t available” for an external user
External access can fail when the video’s current SharePoint or OneDrive location does not allow external sharing. The owner or administrator may need to move or copy the video to a SharePoint or OneDrive location where external sharing is enabled, then share the new link.
Changing the sharing setting on the message or email alone may not be enough if the storage location blocks external users.
A shared folder opens with “Access Denied”
Some SharePoint sites have Limited-access user permission lockdown mode enabled. In that situation, a person may have permission to a folder but still be unable to open it because they cannot access the parent site or required supporting resources.
Possible administrator-level solutions include sharing the individual video file, sharing the whole site, or changing the site-collection feature configuration. The file owner should avoid granting broad site access when sharing the individual file is sufficient.
An old Stream link no longer works
Stream Classic has been retired. Old links using web.microsoftstream.com should not be treated as current access methods. Microsoft’s retirement process ended for commercial and education tenants on April 15, 2024, and old Stream Classic links and embed codes stopped redirecting to migrated SharePoint and OneDrive videos on February 15, 2025.
Ask the owner to locate the migrated video in SharePoint or OneDrive and send a new link. If the owner cannot find it, a Microsoft 365 administrator may need to check the organization’s migration records and storage locations.

The address stream.microsoft.com now redirects to Microsoft’s public Clipchamp product page. It is not the current portal for opening your organization’s Microsoft 365 video library.

Current videos are stored as files in SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, Teams, or related Microsoft 365 locations. Their permissions are inherited from or assigned to those storage locations.

Opening the homepage does not grant access to individual files. The video may be private, shared with another account, subject to delayed permission replication, blocked for external users, or affected by a SharePoint or OneDrive service issue.

For a particular recording, open its SharePoint, OneDrive, or Teams link and use the account that received permission.
