To ask Siri AI from Spotlight on your Mac, press Command-Space, type your question, then select Ask Siri in the results. Siri AI must be enabled, and your Mac, macOS version, and language settings must meet Apple’s requirements.
Check that your Mac can use Siri AI
Apple lists macOS 27 or later and either an Apple Intelligence-enabled MacBook Neo with A18 Pro or a Mac model with M1 or later as requirements. Siri and the device language must also be set to a supported language. Siri AI is in beta and is available in English to start; Apple notes that some Apple Intelligence features can vary by region or language. See Apple’s Siri AI setup guidance for current availability and eligibility details.
Turn on Siri AI
- Open System Settings.
- Select Siri in the sidebar.
- Choose Try Siri AI (Beta) and follow the onscreen instructions. If Siri is off, turn it on first.
Ask Siri from Spotlight
- Press Command-Space to open Spotlight.
- Type a question or request in natural language.
- When Ask Siri appears in the results, select it. Apple’s Spotlight instructions say to type the request and click Ask Siri in the results list. In Apple’s WWDC 2026 demonstration, pressing Return after Spotlight recognizes the query as a Siri request starts the conversation.
For example, Apple demonstrated typing, “How should I think about building a makerspace in a shed?” into Spotlight and then pressing Return to begin a Siri conversation. That is an official demonstration, not a guarantee that every question will be handled the same way.

Apple describes Siri AI as supporting open-ended questions, brainstorming, broad world-knowledge questions, personal-context searches, and actions across apps. Its examples include finding a photo or email, asking about something on screen, and requesting an action in an app. Results and available actions depend on the request and feature availability; these examples are not a promise that every query or app action will work.
