To turn off picture-in-picture (PIP), use the controls on the device creating the smaller picture. If it is your TV’s built-in PIP, try PIP OFF on the TV remote, or press PIP repeatedly until the window disappears. If that does not work, the Spectrum box or another connected device may be generating it instead.
First, identify what is creating the small picture
PIP can come from a TV’s own feature or from a cable box or another connected video device. The control you need depends on which device is producing the smaller image, so do not assume a button on the Spectrum remote will switch off every kind of PIP. Sony’s support guidance distinguishes TV PIP from PIP generated by connected devices.
- If the small window appears while watching regular TV, try the TV’s PIP control first.
- If the window remains, check the Spectrum box or other device feeding the TV and use that device’s controls or instructions.
Turn off PIP generated by the TV
Check the TV remote for a button labeled PIP OFF or PIP. Depending on the TV model, pressing PIP OFF once may close the window, while another model may require pressing PIP repeatedly until it disappears. Sony notes that the steps vary by model, so these button suggestions are not universal across TV brands.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf you cannot find the control or it does not work, consult the manual or support instructions for the exact TV model. A Spectrum remote may control some TV functions, but that alone does not establish that it has the TV’s model-specific PIP command.

If the PIP window stays on screen
When the TV’s PIP control has no effect, the smaller image may be coming from the Spectrum box or another connected device. Look at what is on screen and which device is supplying the picture, then consult that device’s instructions for its PIP or guide-view controls. Avoid guessing a button sequence: the correct control depends on the device and model.
If you use a Xumo Stream Box
An archived Spectrum Community response from October 2023 said Xumo did not have traditional PIP, but showed a smaller view on its guide page. The discussion is archived and warns that its content may be outdated, so treat that description as a clue rather than guaranteed current behavior. Read the archived Spectrum Community discussion.

Identify your Spectrum remote model
Spectrum offers several remote types, with instructions organized by model. To find yours, open the battery cover and read the model number inside. Then use Spectrum’s remote programming and model instructions if you need help identifying or setting up the remote. Knowing the remote model is useful, but you still need to identify the TV or connected device responsible for PIP before choosing the right off control.

If the small picture is still there, note the TV brand and model, the Spectrum remote model, and whether the window appears in TV viewing or only in a device’s guide. Those details help determine whether to follow the TV’s PIP instructions or the instructions for the connected device. Without them, there is no reliable universal Spectrum-remote button sequence to give.
