The TECNO POVA 8 Pro 5G is the spec-sheet pick for a faster-refresh display and a listed 50MP camera with optical image stabilization; Xiaomi’s REDMI Note 17 5G has the larger screen and, on its India product page, a larger battery and stated software-support period. A 91mobiles comparison lists the Xiaomi ₹22,000 below the TECNO in India, but those are indicative third-party prices—not verified current prices for matching configurations.

Which display is better for your use?
Choose the POVA for refresh rate and resolution
TECNO lists a 144Hz refresh rate and 2644 × 1208 resolution on its 6.78-inch AMOLED display. On paper, that gives it the higher refresh-rate ceiling and more pixels than the Xiaomi UK model. Whether apps and games actually run at the maximum refresh rate depends on software and app support; the specification alone does not establish real-world smoothness or image quality.
Choose the REDMI for a larger viewing area
Xiaomi UK lists a larger 6.99-inch AMOLED panel at 2396 × 1080, with refresh rates up to 120Hz. It offers more screen area, while its listed resolution is lower than TECNO’s. If reading, video, or a larger interface is your priority, the screen size may matter more than the refresh-rate difference.

What do the processor and camera specifications tell you?
TECNO names the POVA’s processor as the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultimate. The cited Xiaomi pages do not state the REDMI processor, and the available sources provide no independent comparative benchmark. There is therefore not enough evidence here to declare either phone faster in everyday use or gaming.
TECNO specifies a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) plus an 8MP ultra-wide camera. Xiaomi India describes a 50MP dual-camera setup, but the cited product page does not establish equivalent camera details across regions. These hardware descriptions do not show which phone takes better photos: megapixel counts and OIS alone cannot establish image quality, low-light performance, video quality, or camera consistency.

How do battery, protection, and updates compare?
TECNO lists a 6500mAh battery and 45W charging. Xiaomi India lists an 8000mAh battery and IP65 protection, as well as four years of OS updates and six years of security updates. The cited Xiaomi source does not state charging speed. Capacity is not a battery-life test, so the larger listed figure does not by itself prove longer runtime. Xiaomi’s protection and update figures are specific to the India product page; confirm what applies to the phone sold in your region.
What is the reported price difference?
For India, 91mobiles lists the TECNO at ₹49,999 and the Xiaomi at ₹27,999, a difference of ₹22,000 based on those two figures. This is a third-party comparison, not a confirmed live checkout comparison or official manufacturer price. The sources do not establish matching memory and storage configurations, current availability, or whether the figures remain valid. Check the exact SKU and local seller price before treating the gap as a buying advantage.

Which phone should you choose?
- Consider the TECNO POVA 8 Pro 5G if the listed 144Hz display, higher resolution, named processor, OIS main camera, or 45W charging best matches your priorities.
- Consider the Xiaomi REDMI Note 17 5G if you value the larger listed display, or if the India-specific 8000mAh battery, IP65 rating, and stated update support apply to the version available to you.
- Compare local offers before deciding on value. The reported Indian prices suggest a substantial gap, but current prices and equivalent configurations have not been verified.
Before ordering either model, confirm its regional variant, memory and storage, supported network bands, and seller terms. Xiaomi’s UK specifications specifically warn that network bands and connectivity vary by region and operator; check the exact SKU against your carrier.
