To change Wi-Fi settings on the original Fitbit Aria, restart its setup mode, join the scale’s temporary Wi-Fi network, then use the Fitbit scale setup webpage to select your home network and enter its password. You need to repeat setup after changing your router, network name, internet provider, or Wi-Fi password. These steps apply to the original Aria—not Aria 2 or Aria Air.
Before you begin, confirm which Aria you have
Fitbit’s setup instructions differ by model. Check the batteries and the label on the scale’s back:
- Original Aria: four AA batteries.
- Aria 2: three AA batteries and “Aria 2” printed on the back.
- Aria Air: three AAA batteries.
The instructions below are for the original Aria. Google’s Fitbit scale setup and troubleshooting page provides separate instructions for the other models.

Reconnect the original Fitbit Aria to Wi-Fi
Have the home Wi-Fi password ready and use a Wi-Fi-enabled phone, tablet, or computer. Keep the scale within 10 feet of the router while setting it up, as Google recommends.

- Open the Fitbit scale setup webpage and sign in to the account associated with the scale.
- Remove one battery from the Aria, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert it to restart the setup process.
- When the display shows the old network name followed by “Tap to change,” briefly and firmly press the two corners farthest from the display. Keep pressing until “Set Up Active” appears.
- Open the Wi-Fi settings on your phone, tablet, or computer and connect to the temporary network named “Aria” followed by six characters.
- Return to the setup webpage. Select your home wireless network and enter its password. The password is case-sensitive and must be no more than 31 characters.
- Submit the setup and check the scale’s display. A check mark or smiley face indicates a successful connection.
If the scale displays measurement information or goes blank instead of entering setup mode, remove and reinsert a battery, then try the corner-press step again.
Check router compatibility if setup fails
The original Aria has older Wi-Fi requirements. Google’s setup guidance and Aria manual specify that it supports 802.11b, WEP/WPA/WPA2 personal security, and DHCP. It does not support a static IP configuration.

- If your network name (SSID) or password includes special characters and setup fails, try alphanumeric characters only.
- Check that the router uses a supported personal security mode and assigns addresses with DHCP.
- During setup, place the scale within 10 feet of the router.
Troubleshoot “WIFI ERR,” “NO SYNC,” or a crossed-out Wi-Fi symbol
“WIFI ERR” or “NO SYNC” during setup can point to an incorrect password or router configuration. Google also identifies firewall settings, MAC filtering, and network extenders or repeaters as possible causes. After a network change, “NO SYNC” or a Wi-Fi symbol with an X means the scale cannot communicate with the network.

- Re-enter the password carefully, observing uppercase and lowercase letters.
- Check router security, DHCP, firewall, and MAC-filtering settings against the compatibility requirements above.
- If an extender or repeater is involved, try setting up the scale near the main router.
- Retry setup with the scale within 10 feet of the router.
If you do not have access to a wireless router, Google describes using a mobile hotspot as a fallback. The hotspot must stay active during setup, may drain the phone’s battery quickly, and requires a second Wi-Fi-enabled device to complete the process.
