Fidelity describes this as an extended-hours order-entry workflow, not a separate enrollment or account-level toggle. Its current Trading FAQs: Placing Orders governs the session rules below.
When after-hours trading is available
Fidelity’s After Hours session runs from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, excluding market holidays. The order-entry screen is available during that window. Orders not filled by 8:00 p.m. are automatically canceled unless trading is halted; to try again later, enter a new order.

Order and security requirements
Use a limit order
Fidelity accepts limit orders in extended-hours sessions; other order types are ineligible. Good ’til canceled (GTC) orders are also unavailable for these sessions. A limit order sets the highest price you will pay when buying or the lowest price you will accept when selling, but it does not guarantee execution.
Check that the account and symbol are eligible
Extended-hours trading requires a Fidelity brokerage account, and not every account registration or security is necessarily eligible. Fidelity’s extended-hours trading overview, published August 20, 2026, says eligible securities include listed equities and OTC equities, excluding pink sheets and bulletin-board stocks. Check the specific symbol in the trade workflow rather than assuming it can be traded.

What to check if you can’t place the trade
-
The option is missing: Confirm you are signed in and following the Fidelity.com path above. If the workflow still is not available, ask Fidelity to confirm your account’s eligibility.
-
The symbol is unavailable: The security may not be eligible for extended-hours trading. Check in the order-entry flow or contact Fidelity rather than inferring eligibility from regular-session availability.

-
The order is rejected: Confirm that it is a limit order and that you are entering it during the session. GTC and non-limit orders are not eligible.

Alternative interface: Active Trader Pro
If you use Fidelity’s Active Trader Pro, its FAQ describes placing extended-hours equity orders through the Directed Trade ticket. That is a separate interface path from Fidelity.com’s Trade Extended Hours screen; the current order rules are covered by Fidelity’s Trading FAQs.
