“Half size M2” has no single clear meaning without more context. In Sony memory-card terminology, M2 means Memory Stick Micro; Sony’s “about half the size” comparison is about Memory Stick Duo versus a standard Memory Stick. In computer hardware, “half-size Mini PCIe” can describe a card while “M2” describes the screw used to secure it. These are different things.
What does M2 mean on a Sony memory card?

In Siemens’ Machine Protocol Gateway operating instructions from October 2023, “half-size” describes a Mini PCIe card, and “M2” describes the screw used to fasten it. Here, the phrase refers to a card form factor and a separate fastener specification—not a card format called “half size M2.”

How to tell which meaning applies
- If the context is a Sony memory card, M2 may mean Memory Stick Micro. Check the exact device manual before relying on compatibility.
- If the context is an expansion card, “half-size” may refer to a Mini PCIe card, while M2 may refer to its mounting screw.
- Look at the device, component, and sentence where the phrase appears. “Size” may refer to the card format or card length; M2 may name a memory-card format or a screw specification.
Without the device or subject area, the phrase alone does not identify one definitive meaning.
