To change AutoPlay in Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > AutoPlay. Turn the AutoPlay switch on or off, then—if it is on—select the default action for removable drives and memory cards.
Open the AutoPlay settings
- Select Start > Settings.
- Choose Bluetooth & devices in the Settings sidebar.
- Select AutoPlay.

Turn AutoPlay on or off
On the AutoPlay page, use the overall switch to control whether Windows uses AutoPlay for media and devices. The Settings Catalog labels this control Use AutoPlay for all media and devices.
- On: Windows can carry out the default action you choose for supported media or devices.
- Off: Windows does not use AutoPlay for those connections.
Choose defaults for removable drives and memory cards
When AutoPlay is on, use the separate default-action menus for Removable drive and Memory card. Choose the behavior you want for each category; the available actions can vary with the connected device and installed apps, so check the options shown on your PC rather than expecting an identical list on every system. Microsoft confirms the two category controls in its support guidance and the Windows Settings Catalog.

If a disc installer does not start
AutoPlay is not required to open a setup program manually. Open the disc in File Explorer and select its setup file. Microsoft recommends checking that AutoPlay is turned on and choosing defaults for removable drives and memory cards when configuring disc installation behavior.
What AutoPlay settings do not change
These controls govern what Windows does when supported media or devices are connected. They are separate from Windows startup-app settings and default apps for file types; changing those settings is not necessary to configure AutoPlay.
