I built a chat app solo with rooms, voice and video calls, end-to-end encryption (E2EE), and games inside rooms. Those features depend on different systems: room membership and signaling are application responsibilities, WebRTC provides real-time communication building blocks, and E2EE requires a deliberate key-management design. The feature list alone does not establish the app’s call topology, the exact content its E2EE protects, or how its games synchronize.
What a room has to do beyond hosting a conversation
A room is an application concept, not something WebRTC creates for you. The app needs rules for creating rooms, deciding who may enter, tracking membership, and handling someone leaving or reconnecting. Those rules shape who can communicate and what happens when the group changes.
Real-time connections also need signaling: a way for participants to exchange the information required to establish a connection. The IETF’s WebRTC security architecture describes signaling messages carrying media information and ICE candidates through a signaling service. That service helps set up communication; it is separate from the media transport itself. RFC 8827
The app’s specific room permissions, signaling flow, and deployment arrangement are not established by its feature list. Those details matter: a room can be easy to join while still requiring careful decisions about invitations, access changes, and what happens to existing connections when membership changes.

What WebRTC provides—and what the app must provide
WebRTC provides browser APIs and a security architecture for real-time communication. It does not supply an app’s room model, authorization rules, signaling service, or user interface. In other words, WebRTC can help carry a call, but the application still has to decide who joins and coordinate the connection.
RFC 8827 describes how signaling carries media information and ICE candidates, and how a fingerprint binds communication to a key pair. It requires media channels to use SRTP and SRTCP, and WebRTC data channels to be secured with DTLS. As the RFC puts it: “All media channels MUST be secured via SRTP and the Secure Real-time Transport Control Protocol (SRTCP).” RFC 8827
Those protections are important, but they do not by themselves establish that the service cannot access a conversation. They describe security in the WebRTC architecture; an application-level E2EE claim depends on where encryption happens and who can access the keys.

What “E2EE” needs to specify
Calling a feature E2EE is not enough to tell users what is protected. A clear description should say whether encryption covers text messages, voice and video, data-channel traffic, game events, or only some of those. It should also explain which participants can access the keys and what happens when a member joins or leaves.
Key management is central. LiveKit’s documentation, as one implementation example rather than a description of this app, says its application developer is responsible for securely generating, storing, and distributing E2EE keys. It also says participants must enable E2EE, while signaling messages and API calls are protected in transit with TLS but remain readable by the LiveKit server in its documented design. LiveKit’s encryption documentation
That example illustrates why “encrypted” and “end-to-end encrypted” should not be treated as interchangeable. A transport can be encrypted while a service remains able to read signaling information. The app’s precise E2EE coverage and key boundary cannot be determined from its feature list alone.

What the call topology and group limits mean
A voice or video call feature does not, by itself, reveal how media moves between participants. The app’s topology—whether calls use peer-to-peer connections, a mesh, or an SFU-routed design—is not specified, nor are a supported participant range, TURN use, or observed network limitations. Those are implementation facts, not properties that can be inferred from the word “WebRTC.”

For readers evaluating a real app, the practical questions are whether calls work across the networks and devices they use, what happens when a direct connection cannot be established, and how the app behaves as more participants join. Without project-specific details or measurements, no group-size or reliability claim is warranted.

Putting a game inside a chat room adds another real-time system. Players need to see compatible game state, and the app needs rules for what happens when someone joins mid-game, leaves, reconnects, or falls out of sync. The game list and synchronization method for this app are not specified, so it would be misleading to claim that it uses a server-authoritative model, shared client state, or a particular recovery strategy.

For a concrete account of an in-room game, the useful details are how game events are exchanged, which participant or service decides the authoritative state, and how the app reconciles a returning player with the current game. Those details are as relevant to the experience as the game itself.
What this feature set establishes—and what it does not
The app brings rooms, voice and video calls, E2EE, and games into one chat experience. WebRTC’s standards explain how real-time media and data channels can be secured, but they cannot verify this app’s architecture, encryption scope, key handling, testing, performance, or security review. A trustworthy technical account should make those boundaries explicit rather than letting a feature label stand in for implementation details.
