For this guide, “cheap” means under $50 for earbuds and the budget-priced wired and over-ear picks; the exact checkout price can change, and one candidate may sometimes exceed that ceiling. These eight options come from separate review guides, not a single head-to-head test, so treat them as choices for different needs rather than a ranked lab comparison.
How to choose a budget pair
Start with how you will use them. Earbuds are compact for commuting and workouts; over-ear headphones cover more of the ear and can offer longer continuous battery life. Wired headphones avoid charging, while open-back designs are for quiet rooms, not noisy commutes. For wireless models, look beyond the presence of ANC: cancellation strength, microphone performance, fit, and battery life differ substantially.
Prices and stock move. Check the current listing before treating any model as under $50. The cited guides reflect each publisher’s own reviews and test methods, so their battery and sound findings should not be compared as if they came from one controlled test.

1. Soundcore Space A40: feature-rich commute earbuds
RTINGS names the Space A40 its current best-under-$50 earbud pick. It has adaptive active noise cancellation, app-based EQ, and a warm, bass-forward sound. RTINGS reports up to eight hours of playback with ANC enabled. The comfortable fit and feature set make it a candidate for commuting or travel, but its microphone recording is weaker than its other strengths, and its price can sometimes rise above $50.

2. Soundcore P31i: lower-cost features, with fit caveats
RTINGS’ cheaper pick includes adaptive ANC, multipoint pairing, and LDAC support. The guide reports a little over seven hours of use with ANC on. Cancellation is weaker than on the Space A40, and the review notes budget-feeling ear tips and some shifting during talking or chewing. Consider it when price and features matter more than a particularly secure-feeling fit.
3. Soundcore Life Q30 Wireless: over-ears with useful ANC
RTINGS’ budget over-ear pick is reported to handle engine rumble and café noise effectively, with EQ and up to 44 hours per charge. It also comes with a padded hard case, useful for carrying the headphones. Thin padding may cause fatigue during long sessions, and the plastic frame does not feel premium.

It does not include ANC, transparency mode, or multipoint pairing. The review also notes a bass-heavy sound and a microphone that is sensitive to wind. If using earbuds for exercise, check the manufacturer’s guidance on what the water-resistance rating covers; the cited specifications do not establish that the case shares the buds’ rating.

Check before you buy
- Confirm the current price and stock if your budget has a firm $50 ceiling.
- For frequent calls, pay attention to microphone feedback rather than assuming ANC earbuds will also deliver strong call quality.
- For workouts, consider both fit stability and the water-resistance rating, and verify whether the rating applies to the earbuds, charging case, or both.
- For travel, consider whether a case is included and whether the design offers the isolation you need.
- If you listen in a shared room, avoid open-back headphones unless sound leakage is acceptable.
