For makeup artists, the strongest website inspiration comes from looking at how a site presents the work and helps a prospective client take the next step. The 17-site Colorlib roundup published September 25, 2026 mixes individual portfolios with beauty schools, cosmetics brands, and retailers, so it is a source of design ideas—not 17 verified artist portfolios or an independently tested ranking.
How to use this list
Judge a site by what it can teach you, not by whether it is labeled “best.” For an artist portfolio, look for clear, relevant work; an identity that supports rather than overwhelms the images; useful service details; and an easy route to inquire or book. Also consider whether descriptive page text helps visitors understand the work and find the site through search.
These are practical evaluation criteria, not guarantees that a particular design will increase inquiries. A retailer may be useful for studying photography or product discovery, but its goals differ from a freelance artist’s.
17 makeup-related websites to study
The examples below follow Colorlib’s 17-entry roundup. Its selection spans artist portfolios, a makeup academy, and cosmetics businesses; use each example for the design pattern it illustrates rather than treating every site as a direct portfolio model.
#1 Best Overall
- Black
- 17" x 22" x 3" (43.1cm x 55.8cm x 7.6cm)
- Heavy duty, rigid exterior
- Zips up
- Carrying handles attached
Artist portfolios and education
- Eva Gher: A split-screen hero pairs prominent imagery with concise text. Study how the opening view can introduce both the artist and the visual work.
- Sylvia Spitzbart: Background video, an asymmetrical presentation, and sticky navigation create a distinct visual experience. Consider whether motion and unconventional layout leave the work easy to browse.
- Michael Vincent Academy: A video introduction sits alongside services and credibility cues. This is an education-focused example, so its service presentation may be more transferable than its overall business structure.
- Steeledezign: An image gallery puts the work front and center. A gallery is most useful when visitors can still identify what they are seeing and find the relevant service or contact path.
Beauty retail and product sites
The remaining examples in Colorlib’s roundup include cosmetics brands and retailers. They are not individual makeup artist portfolios, but can offer ideas for how imagery, information, and product discovery are presented.
- Milk Makeup
- Bobbi Brown
- NYX Professional Makeup
- e.l.f. Cosmetics
- Makeup Forever
- Adore Beauty
- Mecca
- ILIA Beauty
- Merit Beauty
Colorlib describes ILIA Beauty as a Shopify-powered store using close-up photography, warm earth tones, ingredient information, and a shade-finder tool. Merit Beauty is described as a Shopify-powered store with restrained styling and a shade-finder quiz. These retail features can inform visual presentation and guided discovery, but a freelance portfolio usually needs to prioritize services, location, availability, and booking instead.
The roundup also includes additional makeup-related sites, but the available descriptions do not establish further individual portfolio design details. Explore them as visual references rather than assuming a specific feature or business result.

What to borrow for your own makeup artist website
Make the portfolio easy to understand
Organize work so visitors can quickly find looks relevant to their needs, such as bridal, editorial, or event makeup if those are services you offer. Use clear labels and purposeful groupings instead of an undifferentiated image wall. Give images enough room to show detail, and keep decorative elements from competing with them.
Give the site a recognizable visual identity
Choose typography, colors, and layout that feel consistent with your style while keeping the makeup itself prominent. Video, sticky navigation, and asymmetry can establish a strong impression, as the Sylvia Spitzbart example illustrates, but they should not make navigation or the portfolio harder to use.
Answer practical client questions
State the services you provide, where you work or travel, how pricing is handled, and whether you are available for bookings. Include enough information for a visitor to judge fit before contacting you. HubSpot’s guidance for makeup artist websites likewise recommends defining the brand and services, organizing a portfolio, and including contact, pricing, and availability information.
Make the next step obvious
Put a clear inquiry or booking route where visitors can find it, such as in the main navigation and alongside relevant service information. Explain what details to include in an inquiry if that will help you respond, and keep the contact path direct rather than sending visitors through unrelated pages.

Help people discover the right work
Use descriptive page titles and copy that identify your services and service area. A visitor should be able to understand what a portfolio page contains without relying on images alone. HubSpot also recommends optimizing discoverability; treat that as a useful site-building practice, not a promise of search rankings.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A short checklist for evaluating inspiration
- Can a prospective client find the most relevant looks quickly?
- Does the site’s identity support the imagery rather than crowd it?
- Are services, pricing approach, location or service area, and availability clear?
- Is there an easy-to-find way to inquire or book?
- Do page text and titles explain the work in useful, descriptive terms?
- Does a feature such as video or a quiz serve the visitor’s task, rather than exist only for decoration?
Choose inspiration according to your business
If you are a working artist, prioritize examples that make a portfolio, services, and contact path clear. If you also teach, the academy model can offer ideas for presenting programs and credibility. Retail sites are best treated as references for photography, restrained styling, and guided product discovery—not as complete templates for a service business.
Build around the questions your own clients need answered. A polished visual style can attract attention, but the site should also make it straightforward to understand what you offer and how to reach you.
