No. Java Edition and Bedrock Edition players cannot share one official Minecraft Realm. Realms cross-play works across supported devices only when everyone is using the same edition: Java players need a Java Realm, and Bedrock players need a Bedrock Realm.
What “cross-play” means for Minecraft Realms
Realms can connect players using different supported devices, but that does not remove the Java–Bedrock edition boundary. Minecraft’s official Realms FAQ says cross-platform play is available only within the same game edition. Minecraft also explains that the editions use different servers and cannot play together in its Java or Bedrock edition guide.
In practical terms, a Java player cannot join a Bedrock Realm, and a Bedrock player cannot join a Java Realm. Having different computers or other devices is not, by itself, the obstacle; the players must be running the same edition.

Which Realm should your group choose?
| Group setup | Realm to use | Supported cross-play described by Minecraft |
|---|---|---|
| Everyone uses Java Edition | Java Realm | Windows, Linux, and macOS |
| Everyone uses Bedrock Edition | Bedrock Realm | Supported Bedrock devices, including Windows, consoles, and mobile |
Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock for PC page summarizes cross-play by platform, but the edition still has to match for a Realm. If your group includes console or mobile players, choose Bedrock if everyone can use it; if everyone is on Java, use a Java Realm.

How to check which edition you have
- On a console: Minecraft says console players use Bedrock Edition.
- On a computer: When Java Edition is running, “Java Edition” appears under the Minecraft logo on the loading screen. If that label is absent, the game is Bedrock Edition, according to Minecraft’s edition guide.
Check with everyone in the group before choosing a Realm or sending an invite. “Minecraft on PC” is not specific enough to establish that two players are using the same edition.
Can someone who owns both editions play with either group?
Yes, a PC player with access to both editions can switch to the one their friends use. They can join a Java group while running Java, or a Bedrock group while running Bedrock. Switching editions does not let both editions enter the same Realm; everyone joining that Realm must still use its edition.

What about a bridge or proxy?
Minecraft’s official pages explain the edition split but do not document or endorse a third-party bridge or proxy for combining Java and Bedrock players on one official Realm. Do not assume such a setup will work with Realms based on a claim that it supports cross-play; the official compatibility guidance is edition-specific.
