BlueStacks 5 installs Android games on your PC for local play. BlueStacks 10 adds Hybrid Cloud, letting you play supported games locally or stream them from the cloud. Choose based on how you want to play: BlueStacks 5 suits local installation and Android-instance control, while BlueStacks 10 is worth trying if you want to avoid downloading supported games and your internet connection can handle streaming. Check the availability and play mode of the game you care about before deciding.
How BlueStacks 5 and BlueStacks 10 differ
BlueStacks 5 is a conventional Android app player: you install games and run them using your PC’s storage and resources. BlueStacks 10 uses what BlueStacks calls Hybrid Cloud. Its cloud option can stream supported games; it also supports local play, so it is not a cloud-only player. BlueStacks says, “With BlueStacks 10, you can play Android games on your PC via the Hybrid Cloud technology.” That describes the product approach, not a guarantee that every game is streamable or performs the same way.

BlueStacks 5 is the more direct fit if you want games installed on your PC, have storage and system resources to allocate, or need to select an Android instance for compatibility. It is also a sensible choice when you prefer not to rely on cloud streaming for gameplay.

BlueStacks 10 can be useful when you want to start a supported game without downloading its files locally. BlueStacks’ product page promotes “One-click Instant Play” and “No download required” for the cloud route. Those are vendor claims and apply only where the game is available for cloud play; a suitable connection is also necessary. Since BlueStacks 10 includes local play as well, it can serve as a hybrid option rather than an either-or choice.

Check game compatibility before choosing
Do not assume that every game in a catalog works in both modes. Confirm that your specific title is currently supported and whether it runs locally, through the cloud, or both. For local play, the required Android version can matter. BlueStacks’ instance guide covers Nougat 32-bit, Nougat 64-bit, Pie 64-bit, Android 11, and Android 13 (Beta), and explains selecting instances through Multi-instance Manager. A game’s requirements determine which instance is appropriate; named version pairings can change as games and software are updated.
BlueStacks describes a library of “2Mn+ Android games,” but that is a vendor-published figure without a clear as-of date or counting method. It does not establish current availability for any particular game.

BlueStacks recommends Windows 10 or later, 8 GB of RAM or more, virtualization enabled, SSD storage, broadband internet, current graphics drivers, and a multi-core Intel or AMD processor and graphics hardware meeting the thresholds stated on its support page. BlueStacks says Windows 7 or 8 users can use versions 5.21.300 and below; the latest features require Windows 10 or later. Consult the current BlueStacks 5 system requirements before installing, since requirements and supported builds can change.

What BlueStacks’ time and storage estimates mean
BlueStacks’ product comparison page gives estimates for its PC gaming and cloud paths, but does not provide a dated methodology. Treat these as vendor estimates, not independent measurements or guarantees:
- BlueStacks estimates 20–30 minutes to get into a game through its PC gaming path, depending on internet speed.
- It estimates download files of 2–3 GB for most games and local storage of 3–4 GB as a game accumulates data. Individual games vary.
Actual setup time and storage depend on the game, its updates, and the PC and connection. Cloud play can avoid local game downloads, but depends on game support and a suitable network.

Using a gamepad
BlueStacks supports gamepads, so a controller is optional if you prefer that input method. Check the game and current BlueStacks support guidance for compatibility; no particular controller model is required by the comparison.
Keep version and feature information current
BlueStacks 5.22.280 was released on September 24, 2026. Its release notes mention network, game-compatibility, stability, and BlueAI changes, illustrating why behavior can vary by build. Check the BlueStacks 5 release notes for current updates, and verify the title’s current support and play mode before installing.
