When a computer or other device asks for the network security key to join your Samsung Galaxy hotspot, enter the hotspot’s Wi-Fi password. Find or change it in the Galaxy phone’s Mobile Hotspot settings. It is not automatically the phone’s screen-lock code or the password for another Wi-Fi network.
What is the network security key for my Samsung hotspot?
It is the password configured for your Galaxy phone’s Mobile Hotspot. When a device asks for a network security key, select your phone’s hotspot name from its Wi-Fi list and enter that password. Samsung’s hotspot setup instructions and Android’s hotspot guidance describe setting up and connecting to a hotspot this way.
There is no universal Samsung hotspot key: use the password currently shown in your phone’s hotspot settings. If you do not know it, check or change it there.
Where do I find or change the hotspot password?

On the Galaxy phone, open Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering > Mobile Hotspot. Samsung’s setup guidance uses this settings area.

Read the password displayed in the hotspot settings. If it is masked, use the on-screen control to reveal it; Samsung Canada’s connection instructions describe an unhide control beside the password field.

If you cannot determine the current password, change it in the hotspot configuration. Then enter the new password on the device joining the hotspot.

On the other device, open its Wi-Fi list, choose the Galaxy hotspot’s network name, and enter the current password when prompted.

Menu labels and options can differ by Galaxy model, software version, and market. If the path does not match your screen, search Settings for “Mobile Hotspot” or consult the manual for your model.

What if the key is rejected?

Check that you selected your Galaxy hotspot’s network name, not a nearby Wi-Fi network.

Read the current password again in the phone’s Mobile Hotspot settings. Password changes make an older saved connection incorrect; update the saved network details on the joining device or reconnect using the current password.

If the hotspot does not appear or will not activate, menu and service availability may depend on the phone, software, and carrier. Google notes that a tethering plan may be required; check with your carrier if needed.

Should I use a password, QR code, or different security setting?
Keep password protection enabled so unintended users cannot join. Samsung Business Insights recommends keeping a hotspot password rather than switching to an open network in its Galaxy hotspot guidance. Security modes are not identical on every phone: WPA2 is available on supported devices, and Samsung advises considering WPA3 as support becomes more widespread. Choose a mode your joining device supports.
QR-code sharing can make joining easier on supported Galaxy screens, but treat the code as a credential. Samsung Canada warns that someone who obtains the code may be able to determine the network password, so share it only with intended users.
Samsung’s hotspot settings also list 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz options on supported devices. A 2.4 GHz connection may suit devices with limited band support; choose 5 GHz when both devices support it and it fits your situation. The available bands and controls depend on the Galaxy model and software.
