The right way to put a Word document or PowerPoint online depends on what you mean by “webpage.” You can share the Office file for people to view, publish an eligible file as a clean web view, or rebuild its content as a website with pages and navigation. Only the last option creates a site you can shape and maintain as a website; none of these routes is a one-click export of a full, responsive website from a document.

Choose the result you actually need

Route What people get Best fit Main trade-off
Share through OneDrive The original Office file opened online Letting people view or collaborate on a document or deck It remains an Office-file experience, not a standalone website
SharePoint Publish to Web A clean, view-only web presentation of an eligible file Sharing a finalized file without exposing editing material in the published view Enterprise and file-location requirements apply; it does not give you website pages or HTML ownership
Save a slide image in Word, then save Word as HTML A basic web page containing an image of an individual slide A simple visual page where the slide image is sufficient Not a dependable full-deck conversion or accessible, responsive site
Rebuild the material in a website builder Pages, navigation, and a site you can maintain Publishing document content as a real website Requires reorganizing and rebuilding the content; costs depend on platform, hosting, domain, and plan

How do I turn a Word document into a webpage?

For a quick online view, share the file

Save or store the document in OneDrive and share it with the people who need it. Microsoft Word for the web is available without installation or purchase to people who sign in or create an account. The recipient views the document in the Office workflow; the link does not export it into standalone HTML. Choose the access permissions deliberately: a share link is not automatically public. Microsoft explains saving and sharing a PowerPoint presentation through OneDrive, and its Office for the web page describes access to the web apps.

For a website, move the content into pages

If you need sections, navigation, a consistent identity, or pages you can update independently, treat the document as source material: extract and organize its headings, text, links, and images in a site builder. Google Sites supports publishing with public or restricted visibility; whether a custom URL is available can depend on your account and administrator. Google Workspace lists Sites as a feature, while its pricing page displays Business Starter at $7 per user per month on annual commitment, excluding tax. That is the price of the Workspace plan, not evidence of a separate Google Sites fee. Promotions, billing, and eligibility can change, so check the live terms before choosing a plan. Google’s publishing instructions describe visibility options, and Google Workspace pricing shows plan details.

Can I convert PowerPoint to HTML?

Not directly in current PowerPoint versions. Microsoft Support says, “In newer versions of PowerPoint, you can’t directly save a presentation as a webpage.” A documented workaround is to copy an individual slide into Word as an image, then save the Word file as “Web Page” or “Web Page, Filtered.” This can work for a simple page built around one slide image; it is not a reliable way to turn an entire deck into accessible, responsive, editable website pages. Microsoft’s PowerPoint guidance explains the limitation and workaround.

How do I publish a PowerPoint online?

Use OneDrive when the deck itself is the deliverable

Store the presentation in OneDrive and share it with the intended audience. People view the deck online rather than receiving a rebuilt website. Set access for the audience you intend; use restricted access when the presentation should not be public. This route keeps the slide experience and usually takes less work than rebuilding it.

Use SharePoint Publish to Web for an eligible clean view

Microsoft documents Publish to Web as a view-only link for finalized Word, Excel, or PowerPoint for the web files stored on SharePoint, available to enterprise users. Its published view excludes comments, edits, version history, and speaker notes. Microsoft’s March 10, 2026 product-manager announcement said the feature was available in Excel and PowerPoint for the web, with Word support coming soon at that time. Because rollout and tenant settings can change, check the current menu and your organization’s admin settings rather than assuming the option is available. Review the file and permissions before publishing: a clean view is not a guarantee that the material is appropriate for public release. Microsoft’s Publish to Web support page describes the feature, and the March 10, 2026 announcement records its rollout status at that date.

Can I make a website from a Word document?

Yes, by turning the document’s content into web pages rather than expecting the file itself to become a complete site. Break long material into meaningful pages or sections, create navigation, and check that links and images work at browser sizes. This gives you more control over future edits and site structure, but it takes more work than sharing a file or publishing a view.

WordPress.com pricing and Canva pricing provide current plan information; Wix’s official plans page is the place to verify its terms.
