Plug the adapter’s USB-C connector into a device whose USB-C port supports video output, then connect its HDMI side to a TV, monitor, or projector. Choose the display’s matching HDMI input if a picture does not appear. The key compatibility check is the source device’s port: USB-C alone does not guarantee video output.
Connect the adapter to your device and display
- Check the ports. Confirm that the source device’s USB-C port supports video output and that the display has an available HDMI input. DisplayPort Alternate Mode is one example of USB-C video support. See the reproduced onn manual for this compatibility condition.
- Connect the USB-C plug. Insert the adapter’s USB-C connector into the source device.
- Connect HDMI. If the adapter has an HDMI plug, connect it to the display’s HDMI input. If it has a female HDMI port, connect an HDMI cable from the adapter to the display. Check the exact package or listing to see whether a cable is included.
- Select the display input. Turn on the display and choose the HDMI input used for the connection if the picture does not appear automatically.
Walmart describes the onn adapter as plug-and-play: the basic connection does not require a separately listed driver-installation step. Its product description says, “Simply attach your USB-C device to the adapter and plug into your HDMI port and you’ve got yourself a match!”
Why the display may show no picture
The most important check is whether the specific USB-C port on your source device can send video. A USB-C-shaped connector does not establish that capability. Walmart lists Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS compatibility for an adapter, but that does not mean every device running those systems supports video output over USB-C.
- Verify video output support in the source device’s specifications; look for USB-C video output or DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
- Reseat the USB-C and HDMI connections.
- Confirm that the display is set to the HDMI input you used.
These are basic checks, not a model-specific official troubleshooting sequence. The available product information does not establish universal compatibility or a guaranteed fix for every no-signal problem.

Check the exact adapter’s HDMI capability
Onn USB-C-to-HDMI adapters do not all have the same published resolution and refresh-rate specifications. Walmart lists one adapter at 4K (3840 × 2160) and 60 Hz, with backward compatibility for 1080p and 720p; another onn listing describes 4K at 30 Hz. These are retailer-listed product specifications, not independent test results.
Before relying on a particular resolution or refresh rate, check the exact model’s package or product listing. Also confirm whether its HDMI connection is a male plug or a female port that needs a separate HDMI cable. The source device and display must support the desired output configuration as well.

If you have picture but no sound
The Walmart listing describes support for audio channels over HDMI. If sound is missing, check that the source device is sending audio to the connected display and review the display’s sound settings. Audio behavior can depend on the devices and their output configuration.
