Samsung’s HDMI-CEC feature is called Anynet+. To enable it, open the TV’s settings, find Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) under External Device Manager, and switch it on. The menu route varies by TV year, and the connected device must also support HDMI-CEC.

Turn on Anynet+ on your Samsung TV

Use the path for your TV’s model year below. On many newer models, press Home on the remote, then go to Settings > All Settings > Connection > External Device Manager > Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) and turn Anynet+ on. Samsung’s published paths are general guidance; regional interfaces and firmware can use different labels. [Samsung’s Anynet+ guide] [Samsung’s eARC guide]

TV model year Samsung-published menu path
2025–2026 Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > External Device Manager > Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC)
2023–2024 Settings > All Settings > Connection > External Device Manager > Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC)
2022 Settings > General & Privacy > External Device Manager > Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC)
2017–2021 Settings > General > External Device Manager > Anynet+
2016 Settings > System > Expert Settings > Anynet+
2014–2015 Menu > System > Anynet+

These routes come from Samsung’s support instructions; if the labels do not match your screen, look in Settings for External Device Manager or consult the manual for your TV’s exact model code.

What Anynet+ does—and what you need

HDMI-CEC allows compatible devices to send control commands over HDMI. With Anynet+ enabled, your Samsung remote may control supported functions on a connected device, such as power or standby and some volume or audio controls. Starting playback on a device may also turn on the TV or switch it to that device’s input. [Samsung]

  1. Confirm Anynet+ is enabled in the TV settings.
  2. Make sure the connected device is powered on and supports HDMI-CEC.
  3. On the TV, select the intended device from the Connected Devices list.
  4. Check that the HDMI cable is a high-speed cable. If the problem continues, try a different cable.
  5. Unplug the devices for a few minutes, reconnect power, and test the connection again.
  6. Check for firmware updates for the affected devices.
  7. Only if the earlier checks fail, consider a factory reset. A reset clears device settings, so use it as a last resort and set the device up again afterward.

Set up a soundbar or receiver over ARC/eARC

Enabling Anynet+ provides control communication, but it does not by itself establish an ARC/eARC audio connection. Connect the TV’s designated HDMI ARC port to the audio device’s HDMI OUT (TV-ARC) port. For a third-party soundbar or home theater, enable CEC and ARC on that device if required, then select its HDMI ARC input. In the TV’s sound settings, choose Receiver (HDMI) or the equivalent output option. [Samsung ARC setup guide]

For eARC

Samsung says eARC requires support from both the TV and soundbar or receiver, plus an eARC-supported cable. Its support guide identifies selected Samsung TVs from 2020 onward and selected Samsung soundbars from 2019 onward as eARC-capable; those year ranges do not mean every model from those years supports eARC. Anynet+ must also be enabled. [Samsung eARC guide]

For conventional ARC, Samsung’s Singapore guidance calls for the ARC-labeled TV port and an HDMI cable version 1.4 or higher. Follow the cable requirements for the feature and equipment you are using rather than assuming that ARC and eARC have identical requirements. [Samsung ARC setup guide]

ARC versus eARC audio capability

Samsung’s guide describes ARC as supporting compressed 5.1 audio, while eARC supports uncompressed 5.1 and 7.1 and high-bitrate or object-based audio formats. Actual playback depends on the formats supported by the TV, source, and audio system; confirm their specifications for the specific codecs you need. [Samsung eARC guide]
