CONTROL Resonant is Remedy Entertainment’s released sequel to CONTROL, but it shifts the perspective from Jesse Faden to her brother Dylan and takes the supernatural crisis out into a warped Manhattan. Its design points to a broader, more exploratory action-adventure RPG: large zones, optional discoveries, melee-focused combat and traversal through places where gravity itself can change.
When did CONTROL Resonant come out?
CONTROL Resonant launched worldwide on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Remedy’s current game page lists it as out now. The studio identifies itself as the game’s developer and publisher; Annapurna Pictures co-financed and co-produced it through a strategic partnership. Remedy’s game page and its launch announcement provide the current status and launch details.
Remedy’s launch announcement also said physical and digital editions were available for preorder. A physical console copy is an option if you prefer owning a disc, but check the live retailer listing for the platform, stock and edition contents before buying.

You play as Dylan Faden, Jesse Faden’s brother. Jesse is missing, and a supernatural emergency is reshaping Manhattan. Remedy’s launch announcement identifies resonance, the Hiss and the Mold as forces involved in the crisis; the game page describes Dylan’s fight for survival and his humanity against a reality-bending cosmic threat.

Forge connections crucial to Dylan’s fight to retain his humanity as he journeys from former test subject to paranatural superweapon

- SHARED LEGACY. NEW THREAT: FBC Director Jesse Faden's lockdown is no longer holding. A paranatural catastrophe has spilled beyond the Oldest House and onto the streets of Manhattan, and the Bureau's grip on containment is failing. Jesse Faden walked into the Oldest House to confront the threat within. Now Dylan must walk out of it to contain the threat beyond.
Remedy creative director Mikael Kasurinen has said that new players can jump into the sequel without knowing the first game, and that it is designed to be easy to pick up. That makes the original CONTROL an optional primer rather than a stated prerequisite. Playing it may still provide context for Jesse, Dylan and the series’ paranatural world. GamesRadar’s guide reports Kasurinen’s comment; the sequel relationship and premise are established on Remedy’s official game page.
What changed in the gameplay?
Manhattan is organized into expansive zones
Rather than describing the game simply as open world, Remedy’s gameplay announcement emphasizes large, distinct zones. It says those areas include side activities, hidden encounters and optional discoveries. That suggests more room to explore than a tightly linear sequence, while keeping the structure zone-based. Remedy’s gameplay reveal explains the studio’s intended structure.

Traversal bends the rules of place
Dylan can move through environments that no longer obey normal physical rules. Remedy specifically highlights Gravity Anomalies, where gravity and orientation shift. These are part of the traversal pitch as well as a way the city’s altered reality shapes exploration.
Combat puts more emphasis on melee
GamesRadar describes the sequel as more melee-focused than the first game and identifies Dylan’s transforming weapon as the Aberrant, a contrast to Jesse’s Service Weapon. The same guide names abilities called Reach and Shift. These are editorially reported details rather than specifications in the official gameplay announcement, so treat them as reported descriptions, not a complete or definitive ability list. GamesRadar’s guide covers those details.

- The action RPG sequel to Control, developed and published by Remedy Entertainment.
Which platform should you choose?
Remedy currently lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and GeForce NOW. The game page says Mac versions through Steam and the App Store are expected later in 2026; check that page for current availability before choosing a Mac copy. Remedy’s platform list does not establish identical performance or features across devices.
- Choose PS5 or Xbox Series X|S if you want to play on a console. Remedy’s launch announcement also confirms physical editions were offered for preorder, alongside digital editions.
- Choose Steam or Epic Games Store if you play on PC and prefer one of those storefronts.
- Consider Xbox Play Anywhere if you want to move between an Xbox console and supported Windows PCs or gaming handhelds. Xbox Wire reported that the game was planned to support shared saves, add-ons and achievements across those devices. This is not confirmation of Steam Deck verification.
- Consider GeForce NOW if cloud play fits your setup; Remedy lists the service as supported.
- Wait for the Mac listing if you plan to play on Mac. Remedy’s current page describes Mac availability as forthcoming later in 2026, rather than listing it among platforms already out.
In an Xbox Wire interview published May 8, 2026, Remedy Senior Communications Manager Miika Huttunen said, “We want players to feel at home with Control Resonant wherever they choose to play. Our focus has been on making sure the experience feels great across platforms.” The interview discusses attention to handheld performance and controls, but it does not establish that every platform has the same features or performance. Xbox Wire’s interview describes the planned Xbox Play Anywhere support and Remedy’s cross-platform approach.

Why does the sequel feel bigger?
The sense of scale comes from a cluster of concrete changes, not a verified claim that Remedy removed every design constraint: the story shifts to Dylan, the crisis spreads through a warped Manhattan, the world is divided into expansive zones with optional discoveries, and traversal includes gravity anomalies. The melee-oriented combat emphasis adds another clear contrast with Jesse’s earlier adventure.

Those details support calling CONTROL Resonant a broader and more exploratory follow-up. They do not, by themselves, prove that it is an unbounded open world or that every system is larger than in the first game.
