Yes, the MiFi 8000 guide does not say you must unplug it once it is fully charged. But that is not a guarantee that continuous power has no effect on battery life. Inseego says batteries wear gradually, and the guide does not quantify how always being plugged in affects that wear.
What Inseego’s guide says about continuous charging
The global MiFi 8000 user guide does not prohibit leaving the hotspot connected to power after it reaches full charge. It also does not promise that doing so will preserve the battery indefinitely or specify a continuous-charging wear rate.
Inseego notes that battery life depends on factors including the network, signal strength, temperature, features, and accessories. It says: “It is normal for batteries to gradually wear down and require longer charging times.” A noticeable reduction in runtime can be a sign that the battery needs replacement.
How to use a MiFi 8000 plugged in
- Use approved accessories. Inseego says, “Always use only approved batteries and chargers with your MiFi 8000.” The guide warns that damage caused by non-approved batteries or chargers is not covered by its warranty. Do not assume an arbitrary replacement battery or charger is compatible.
- Keep it near room temperature while charging. Avoid leaving the device in a vehicle or another place where it could become excessively hot or cold.
- Avoid trapping heat. As a practical precaution, place the hotspot in an open, well-ventilated location rather than an enclosed space. High heat is a concern for battery care and can also trigger thermal protections described in the AT&T guide.
- Monitor battery runtime. If the device runs for noticeably less time when unplugged, the battery may have worn down. The guide does not give a fixed replacement interval.
- Disconnect power before handling the battery. The guide instructs users to disconnect the MiFi 8000 from any device or power source before removing or inserting its battery.
Temperature limits and the AT&T model’s thermal protections
Inseego’s AT&T MiFi 8000 guide lists battery charging at 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F), operating temperature at −10°C to 55°C (14°F to 131°F), and storage temperature at −30°C to 70°C (−22°F to 158°F). These are specifications from the AT&T guide; they should not be assumed to describe every carrier version identically.

That guide also describes protections for a demanding combination of weak signal, active charging, and high data throughput:

These are manufacturer-published thresholds in the AT&T guide, not results of independent testing. The global guide separately warns against exposing batteries to temperatures below −20°C (4°F) or above 60°C (140°F), and advises storing a battery uncharged in a cool, dark, dry place.

Does leaving it plugged in use much electricity?
The reviewed MiFi 8000 documentation does not state a continuous-use wattage or provide an electricity-cost estimate. There is not enough information here to calculate the cost of leaving a particular unit plugged in; it would require the device’s actual power draw and the electricity rate where it is used.

The reviewed MiFi 8000 materials do not establish that this model has a Battery Preservation Mode. Inseego documentation about that feature applies to the MiFi PRO M4, a different product, so it should not be treated as a MiFi 8000 setting.
