What if Text shortcuts is missing?
Samsung notes that menu paths and available options can vary with device and operating-system version. On some older software, the route may instead be Settings > Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Samsung Keyboard > Smart typing. If neither path matches your phone, open Samsung Keyboard settings using the keyboard’s settings icon, or search Settings for Text shortcuts. Samsung’s Galaxy keyboard settings guidance also describes the related typing controls.

Text shortcuts, predictive text, and Auto replace
These options are related but do different jobs. A text shortcut is a mapping you create for a trigger and a saved phrase; predictive text suggests words as you type and displays a shortcut’s expanded phrase for you to select. Auto replace can replace words, with Samsung describing acceptance using Space or Enter. For a shortcut, follow the documented suggestion-bar workflow rather than assuming the phrase will expand automatically.
| Feature | What it does | How the text gets inserted |
|---|---|---|
| Text shortcut | You define a trigger and its expanded phrase. | Type the trigger, then select the saved phrase in the suggestion bar. |
| Predictive text | Suggests words while you type. | Select a suggestion when you want to use it. |
| Auto replace | Replaces words. | Samsung says a replacement can be accepted with Space or Enter. |
Samsung’s keyboard feature guide covers Smart typing options including predictive text, Auto replace, and shortcuts.
