Profile link, Pinterest widget, and Pinterest tag: what is the difference?
| Option | What it does | Setup path |
|---|---|---|
| Pinterest profile link | Adds a clickable icon that takes visitors to your Pinterest profile. | Social icons element; add your profile URL and update the website. |
| Pinterest widget | Embeds Pinterest content on a page. | Create a widget with Pinterest Widget Builder, then add its embed code with the editor’s Embed code element. |
| Pinterest tag | Measures activity for advertising campaigns; it is not needed just to link to a profile. | Requires a Pinterest Business account and a separate tag setup with custom code. |
These are separate tasks. A profile icon does not add a widget or tracking code. Pinterest tag setup involves configuring the tag in Pinterest, adding the base code in the site editor’s Custom code field, and placing the PageVisit event code beneath it. Tag events may take up to 24 hours to appear in Pinterest Analytics and are then updated hourly; this is operational guidance, not a guarantee for every account.
If you are adding a Pinterest tag, use the custom-code settings
This section applies only if you want advertising measurement, not a profile icon. In the editor, open More (ellipsis) → Integrations → Custom code. Meta, link, and style tags go in the head, and scripts, noscript elements, and iframes go at the end of the body. Preview the changes, then update the website for them to appear on the live site.
