Yes, Bandicam can work on some low-end PCs, but smooth recording is not guaranteed. Gameplay and recording share the computer’s CPU, GPU, and memory, so the result depends on your hardware, the game, and the capture settings. A compatible hardware encoder may help; lowering the recording workload and demanding in-game settings can also reduce lag and skipped footage.

What determines whether Bandicam runs well?

Recording adds work while the game is already using system resources. Bandicam warns that recording can slow a computer or cause skipped footage when the system cannot keep up. There is no universal hardware threshold for smooth capture, and no promise that recording will cause no frame-rate loss. The outcome depends on the PC and the combined game-and-recording workload. Bandicam’s lag guidance and its FPS guidance both point to system performance and settings as factors.

Which Bandicam settings should you try first?

Start with the resolution you actually need. If gameplay slows down or the recording skips, reduce the capture workload in stages rather than changing everything at once. This makes it easier to see which adjustment helps your system.

  1. Reduce capture size. If the recording does not need to match your display’s full resolution, try a smaller capture size.
  2. Lower the target frame rate. Fewer frames mean less work for the system to capture and encode.
  3. Lower quality if needed. If the first two changes are not enough, reduce recording quality and check whether performance improves.
  4. Test the same game scenario again. Compare gameplay smoothness and the recorded footage after each change.

These are vendor recommendations, not a tested preset: the sources do not establish one combination that works for every low-end PC.

Can hardware encoding help?

If Bandicam offers a compatible hardware encoder on your PC, try its hardware-accelerated H.264 option. Bandicam also documents HEVC and AV1 hardware acceleration across NVIDIA, Intel, and AMD encoder families. Which choices appear depends on the installed software version and supported hardware; do not assume every PC has all of them. Check the options available in your copy of Bandicam and select only an encoder your system supports. Bandicam’s hardware-acceleration guide describes the encoder families and compatibility considerations.

What else can reduce recording lag?

  • Lower demanding game settings. Bandicam’s FPS guide recommends reducing graphics settings such as shadows and anti-aliasing.
  • Close programs you do not need. Freeing resources for the game and recording may help when the PC is under load.
  • Check the actual symptom. If the game slows, reduce the combined workload; if only the footage skips, test capture size, FPS, and quality adjustments.

These steps can improve the odds of a usable recording, but they cannot guarantee smooth results on a particular system. Bandicam’s FPS guide was last updated February 25, 2026.

Is storage speed likely to be the problem?

Do not assume an SSD upgrade is the fix. Bandicam says SSD versus HDD may not affect recording performance in many cases, while noting exceptions involving codecs that create larger files, such as YV12 or RGB24. Storage can matter in some configurations, but the guidance does not support treating it as the default cause of lag.

How to judge it on your own PC

A useful test needs to reflect your real setup: the processor, graphics hardware, memory, operating system, game, target resolution, and target frame rate all matter. Try recording the game under typical play conditions, then change one setting at a time and inspect both the game’s performance and the saved footage. If you still see slowdowns or skipped footage after reducing capture demands and game settings, the PC may not have enough headroom for that target quality.
