You can use a local TWAIN scanner in a Windows 365 Cloud PC session through Microsoft’s scanner-redirection feature, which Microsoft labels as a preview. The documented Cloud PC setup requires enabling the fTWAINRedirectionEnabled policy value and installing Microsoft’s TwainRedirector MSI on each Cloud PC. Intune’s documented Windows App redirection settings are a separate set of client policies; those settings alone do not enable TWAIN scanner redirection.
How TWAIN scanner redirection works
Microsoft describes scanner redirection as high-level peripheral reflection and says it supports TWAIN. The scanner remains connected to the local device; redirection makes its scanner behavior available inside the remote session. This is distinct from redirecting a USB device as an opaque, low-level peripheral.
Microsoft labels scanner redirection as a preview feature. Treat availability and behavior as subject to change, and check Microsoft’s current scanner guidance before deploying it broadly.

What you need before configuring a Cloud PC
- A local scanner that supports TWAIN, with its TWAIN driver installed correctly on the local device.
- A supported client and platform. The Microsoft guidance reviewed for this procedure specifies Windows App for Windows, build
2.0.1070.0. Check Microsoft’s current client and platform compatibility information before assuming another client or platform is supported. - Administrative access to each Windows 365 Cloud PC where you intend to enable the feature.
- The Microsoft-specified redirector installer,
TwainRedirectorMsi-1.0.2603.17170.msi, for installation on each Cloud PC.
Enable scanner redirection on each Cloud PC
In the configuration Microsoft documents, scanner redirection from the local device to a Cloud PC is disabled at the Cloud PC level by default. Enable the registry policy value and install the redirector on every Cloud PC that needs scanner access.

What Intune does—and does not—configure here
Microsoft’s Intune guidance for Windows App redirection documents client app-configuration settings for items such as drives, cameras, audio capture, and clipboard. It also says that when local-client settings conflict with Cloud PC or host-side settings, the more restrictive setting takes effect.
That Windows App policy guidance is not a scanner-specific Intune deployment walkthrough. The documented settings do not, by themselves, set fTWAINRedirectionEnabled or install the TwainRedirector MSI. Microsoft’s scanner guidance presents the registry command and MSI installation, but does not provide a step-by-step Intune recipe for deploying those two items. Do not treat a configured Windows App redirection policy as proof that TWAIN redirection is enabled on the Cloud PC.

Do not substitute generic USB redirection
Microsoft’s separate USB-redirection guidance covers opaque, low-level USB redirection and says to use high-level redirection methods where possible. Its Windows 365 USB procedure requires configuration on both the Cloud PC and local device. That is a different workflow from scanner-specific TWAIN redirection; use the scanner procedure for the TWAIN feature rather than assuming generic USB settings will enable it.
