To stop your iPhone from reversing a saved selfie relative to the front-camera frame, go to Settings > Camera and turn off Mirror Front Camera. Take a new selfie to check the result.
Turn off Mirror Front Camera
- Open Settings.
- Tap Camera.
- Turn off Mirror Front Camera.
- Take a new selfie and check how the saved image appears.
Apple’s instructions cover selfies taken with the iPhone camera. You can take a selfie in Photo or Portrait mode. Apple’s iPhone User Guide documents the mirror setting.
What Mirror Front Camera changes
The front-camera frame and the saved selfie do not have to show the same orientation. Apple says turning on Mirror Front Camera makes the captured selfie match what appears in the front-camera frame instead of reversing it. Turning the setting off produces the opposite capture behavior relative to that frame.

This setting controls the captured selfie; Apple’s instructions do not say that it changes the live preview. They also do not establish how third-party camera, video-call, or social-media apps handle mirroring.

Choose whether the saved selfie matches the frame
- Turn Mirror Front Camera on if you want the saved selfie to match the view in the front-camera frame.
- Leave it off if you want the saved image reversed relative to that frame.
Neither orientation is universally correct; choose the result you prefer. Settings wording can vary by iOS version or language.
