ForgeCMS’s shop module is designed for a small shop that wants file-based catalog and order storage and direct-transfer payments rather than a database and conventional payment processor. Its trade-off is a deliberately limited checkout: no cart, card payments, stock management, or automatic invoices, and euro bank transfers must be confirmed manually.

How the ForgeCMS shop works

ForgeCMS is described by its publisher as a small Go-based content management system. Pages use SML and Markdown in a Git repository; the server fetches and renders content when requested and caches it. The publisher says ForgeCMS has no database or build step. The shop follows that file-oriented approach: catalog information lives in a text file, and each submitted order is saved as a small SML file on the server.

The publisher presents the module as handling physical and digital products. It says there is no monthly module fee or payment-provider transaction cut; those are the publisher’s descriptions of its product and terms, not an independently verified comparison.

What a buyer and seller do

Set up a product

A catalog entry can include a product ID, title, price in Ğ1, optional euro price, image, and description. When both currency prices are supplied, the buyer can choose between them; a single listed price means the product is offered in that currency. Art, the article’s author, summarizes the pricing design this way: “The price always comes from the catalogue, never from the order form.”

Adding Products { } to a page renders product cards with an Order button. The buyer enters a quantity, name, and email address. For a physical product, the form also collects a shipping address. After submission, the server saves the order and emails both buyer and seller. The buyer is shown payment details, including the destination address, amount, and order number.

Receive and fulfill an order

The described workflow records the order and communicates payment details; it does not document shipping-label creation or automated physical-order fulfillment. For digital products, the publisher says the paid email includes a license key and a personal download link. That link expires after 30 days or five downloads. The article reports that the server stores a SHA-256 hash of the token rather than the token itself, keeps downloadable files outside the public content repository, and has a download handler that rejects path traversal and symlinks. These are safeguards described by the publisher, not independently audited findings.

Payment options and who confirms payment

Payment method How payment is checked What to expect
Ğ1 transfer The publisher says a watcher queries a public Duniter indexer every minute, matches a transfer comment to an order number, and marks the order paid after 10 block confirmations, described as about a minute. The publisher says split transfers are added together, overpayments are recorded, and transfers without a matching order trigger an email to the seller. The last processed block is stored in a state file. The publisher also says, “The server never holds a wallet key.” These are reported implementation details, not independently verified behavior.
Euro bank transfer The seller checks their own bank account and confirms the amount through a secret link in the order email. This is a manual confirmation step; the article does not describe a banking API or automatic reconciliation.

The article reports that its author tested a €0.01 euro transfer and a 1 Ğ1 digital-product order, and that both orders were marked paid; the author also says the emails and download link worked. This is the publisher’s reported test experience, not independent testing.

What the module does not provide

  • No shopping cart: An order covers one product, though the buyer can specify a quantity.
  • No card or mainstream wallet checkout: The article says the module does not accept cards, PayPal, or Stripe.
  • No stock management or automatic invoices: The seller should not expect those conventional store functions from the described module.
  • Manual euro-transfer checks: The seller must verify receipt in their bank account and confirm it through the order link.

That makes the module a narrower checkout than a conventional online store. Its file-based operation and direct-transfer options may suit a small shop, creator, farm shop, or community project if one-product orders and the stated limitations fit the business.

Price, legal note, and what to verify

The publisher’s article lists a one-time €39 license with no subscription. Price and availability can change, so check the publisher’s current terms before buying. The available description does not establish support terms or a refund policy.

For digital delivery, the publisher says buyers must tick a consent box for immediate delivery and asserts that German and EU law require it for withdrawal rights to end with the download. That is the publisher’s legal characterization, not legal advice. Requirements can depend on the transaction and jurisdiction; confirm the current rules with a qualified source before relying on this claim.

The detailed feature, security, and payment-flow information here reflects the publisher’s account in its DEV Community article. It should not be read as an independent code audit, confirmation of current live network behavior, or a guarantee of present pricing.
