You can rule out several common power problems without opening the TV, but checking its power supply board requires the exact model’s service information and can expose you to dangerous mains voltage. First check the cord, outlet, breaker and remote. If those checks do not solve the problem, use model-specific repair guidance—or have a qualified technician diagnose the set. A dark standby light alone does not prove the power board has failed.
Start with checks that do not require opening the TV
Before suspecting an internal board, check the basic causes of a no-power symptom. LG’s no-power troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the power connection, remote and outlet or breaker.
- Make sure the power cord is firmly seated at the TV and wall outlet.
- Test the outlet with another device you know works, or try a different working outlet.
- Check the relevant breaker if the outlet appears to have no power.
- Try the TV’s physical power button, if accessible, and check whether the standby indicator responds. Confirm that the remote has working batteries and is operating correctly.
If these checks do not restore power, LG recommends professional service. They can narrow down the problem, but they cannot identify a failed internal component.
Why a symptom or visual inspection is not enough
A TV that will not turn on may have a power-supply problem, but the symptom alone does not establish that diagnosis. A missing standby light is not a component-level test, and a board that looks normal may still be faulty. Likewise, a visible defect does not by itself establish what repair is needed.

Manufacturer repair guidance uses model-specific checks rather than a universal rule that maps one symptom to one failed part. Do not replace the power board solely because the TV is unresponsive, or treat a visual inspection as proof that it works.
Find the exact service information before considering measurements
Record the TV’s full model number from its label or settings, then find service information for that exact model or model family. Connector pinouts, test points, expected voltages and test conditions vary. A procedure for one TV cannot safely supply the measurement targets for another.

For example, the iFixit guide for a particular LG OLED TV specifies an approximately 7.8 V standby reading at a named connector. That is an example for the guide’s described model—not a universal standby voltage for LED TVs. LG’s service manual for the 55UP7670PUC family likewise has its own power-board output checks and repair branches.

A multimeter can be used for checks such as fuse continuity or voltage measurement, but having a meter does not make work on an energized TV safe. The iFixit guide warns: “As soon as the mains plug is switched on dangerous mains voltage is present at several points. The circuit board should not be touched when plugged in.”

Do not open the TV or probe an energized board unless you have appropriate electronics training and can follow the exact model’s service procedure. Do not bridge or short pins to try to start the set. If a test requires a powered-board measurement, or you are unsure how to perform it safely, stop and use a qualified TV repair technician.
What a multimeter reading can—and cannot—tell you
The cited repair guide describes a multimeter continuity check for a fuse and a model-specific standby-voltage check. These are not interchangeable tests: a continuity result addresses whether a path is electrically continuous under the test conditions, while a voltage reading checks a specified point in a particular operating state.

A fuse that passes continuity does not prove that the power board works. Nor does a standby voltage reading by itself clear the board: the iFixit guide notes that standby voltage may be present even when the supply cannot provide enough current for standby operation. Interpret any result alongside the exact service procedure and the TV’s observed behavior; a reading outside the expected result supports further diagnosis, not a universal part-level conclusion.
