Yes—if Samsung still offers firmware for your exact TV model and region. First try Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now. If the TV cannot update online, Samsung also documents updating from a USB drive. If no newer firmware appears for your model, the set is already on the latest version Samsung lists for it; that does not upgrade it to the operating system used on newer TVs.
What determines whether your Samsung TV can be updated?
Firmware availability is tied to the TV’s full model code and the country or region whose Samsung support site you use. Find the code under Settings > Support > About this TV or on the label on the back of the set. Enter that exact code on Samsung’s local support page and check its downloads. Do not select firmware based only on the screen size, series name, or approximate year. Samsung Canada’s update guide and Samsung US’s instructions explain how to find model-specific software.
If Samsung lists no newer firmware for the model, there is no newer update currently offered for that set on that page. Samsung UK says a TV with no update available is already on the latest version available for it. That is not the same as receiving the newest operating system used by current models. Samsung UK’s update guidance describes what a no-update result means.

- Connect the TV to a stable internet connection.
- Open Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now. On some models, first open Settings > All Settings; menu names and layout vary by model and software version.
- If the TV offers an update, follow the on-screen prompts. Keep the TV powered on and let it finish and restart before using it.
- If no update is found, confirm the full model code and compare the installed software version with the latest file listed on the corresponding regional Samsung support page. Samsung’s Singapore support guide also describes the update menu, though exact menus can vary by model.
Some TVs offer Auto Update in the Software Update menu. If the update option is unavailable while an app is running in the background, Samsung US advises switching to the TV source or pressing Samsung TV Plus on the remote, then checking again. Samsung’s US instructions cover this issue.

How to update a Samsung TV from USB
USB is Samsung’s documented offline update method when an internet update is not practical. The package must be for the exact model, and the TV’s model page takes precedence over general directions because requirements can differ by model and region.
- Record the complete model code from Support > About this TV or the rear label.
- Open the correct regional Samsung support page for that model and download its firmware package if one is listed.
- Follow the model-specific page for preparing the drive and placing the files. Samsung US’s general guide specifies an empty, FAT32-formatted USB device; Samsung Canada says to extract the downloaded package and follow the instructions for the model. Samsung US and Samsung Canada provide these instructions.
- Insert the drive into the TV. If it does not prompt you automatically, open Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now and follow the prompts.
- Keep the TV powered on and do not remove the USB drive until installation finishes and the TV restarts.
Samsung notes that video and audio settings may reset after an update. If the update does not start, check that the package matches the full model code and that the TV does not already have a newer version. If the files may have been copied incorrectly, extract the downloaded package again and recopy it according to the model page.

Firmware updates are not the same as operating-system upgrades
A firmware update installs software Samsung makes available for a particular TV. It does not necessarily change the TV to the newer operating system found on recent models. Samsung’s Malaysia guide describes a separate OS-upgrade program for certain 2023 Smart TVs, monitors, and projectors, with model exceptions. Eligibility and schedules can vary by country, and that program’s upgrade cannot be reversed. It should not be taken as evidence that older TVs qualify. Check the exact model’s local support page. Will updating restore an app that no longer works?
It may help with some app problems, but an update cannot guarantee that an older TV remains compatible with every app or service. For apps that freeze, fail to load, disappear, or crash, Samsung US lists a cold boot, software update, deleting and reinstalling the app, and resetting Smart Hub among its troubleshooting steps. Check app availability for your exact TV and region rather than assuming a firmware update will restore a discontinued or incompatible service.
