To return to regular browsing, open the tab switcher and tap Tabs. Mozilla’s Firefox for iOS private browsing instructions describe this workflow; its tab-management guide also recommends updating Firefox if your interface differs.
Check whether you’re in Private Browsing
Look for the purple mask on the tab icon. Firefox also uses a darker interface theme in private mode. If you don’t see the mask or the Private control, open the tab switcher first: the mask is not displayed while a webpage is open.

What Private Browsing saves—and what it doesn’t hide
Private Browsing limits the browsing data Firefox saves locally from that private session, including history, cookies, and passwords. Bookmarks and downloaded files are still saved. A website can also recognize you through an account when you’re signed in.

Private mode is not anonymity. Websites, your internet provider, and an employer or school monitoring a managed device or network may still be able to see activity. Firefox’s Enhanced Tracking Protection is on in private windows and adds protection against tracking, but it does not block all tracking or make your activity invisible.

Mozilla’s current FAQ says Firefox for iOS does not support launching directly into Private Browsing by default, so you need to switch modes manually using the tab switcher. App features can change, so check Mozilla’s current instructions if the option or interface changes.
