No. The Samsung Galaxy S20 does not have a battery compartment for ordinary, owner-performed removal. Samsung lists the US unlocked Galaxy S20 5G’s battery as “Removable: No” in its product specifications. The battery can be replaced as a repair, but doing so requires opening the phone.
What “removable” means for the Galaxy S20
A removable battery is one an owner can take out through a designed access panel, usually without opening the phone or using repair tools. The Galaxy S20 is not built that way: its battery is internal. Samsung’s cited specification is for the US unlocked Galaxy S20 5G, model SM-G981U1, so it should not be treated as a specification check for every regional variant.
Can the Galaxy S20 battery be replaced?
Yes. Replacement is possible as a repair, not as a routine battery swap. The iFixit Galaxy S20 battery replacement guide describes opening the rear cover, disconnecting and removing the battery, and fitting replacement adhesive. The battery is held in place with strong adhesive, so the phone must be disassembled.

Samsung France also lists an English repair guide for the European SM-G981B Galaxy S20 5G on its regional support page. That documentation establishes that a guide exists for that variant; it does not establish current service availability or pricing in every location. Check repair support for your exact model and region before arranging service.

Battery capacity: typical versus rated
Samsung Mobile Press gives two capacity figures for the Galaxy S20. They describe different measures, not competing estimates of a user-removable battery:
- 4,000 mAh typical: Samsung describes this as a typical capacity estimated through third-party laboratory testing.
- 3,880 mAh rated (minimum): Samsung’s stated rated capacity, distinct from the typical figure.
Both figures are listed in Samsung Mobile Press’s Galaxy S20 specifications.

Safety and repair choices
If you are considering a do-it-yourself replacement, treat it as a phone repair rather than a quick swap. The iFixit guide advises powering off and unplugging the phone, discharging the battery below 25% before disassembly, and using heat to loosen the rear-cover adhesive. It warns against overheating, which can damage the display or battery, and says not to heat the phone if the battery is swollen. A swollen battery requires particular care; do not proceed with the guide’s heating steps.
The guide is third-party repair documentation, not a statement that Samsung recommends consumer self-repair. If you are not equipped for phone disassembly, contact a repair provider and confirm it supports your specific S20 variant.
