The best IFTTT alternative depends on what you want to automate: choose Zapier for business app workflows, Make for visual branching, n8n for self-hosting and technical control, Power Automate for Microsoft-heavy work, or Home Assistant for local-first smart-home control. If you only need a simple personal or connected-home trigger and action, IFTTT may still be the easier fit.
How to choose an IFTTT alternative
Start with the work, not a universal ranking. IFTTT is designed around straightforward no-code personal and smart-home automations. IFTTT describes its own free offer as supporting up to two Applets and its setup as choosing a trigger and an action; check its current terms and compatibility before switching. See IFTTT’s alternatives comparison.
Move to another tool when you need a capability IFTTT does not provide in the way you need it: multi-step business workflows, visual branches and filters, code or API control, self-hosting, Microsoft desktop automation, or local smart-home control. IFTTT’s own comparison, updated September 18, 2026, identifies Zapier and Make as direct trigger-action competitors, and positions n8n and Pipedream for developer-oriented control and Tasklet.ai for AI-agent tasks. That is IFTTT’s market framing, not an independent product ranking.

Best IFTTT alternatives by use case
Zapier: business workflows across work apps
Zapier is a candidate when you want to connect business apps and build workflows that go beyond a single trigger-action pair. Its vendor-authored comparison highlights multi-step Zaps, branching, filters, and business integrations; those claims describe Zapier’s own product positioning. The official pricing page listed a Free plan with 100 tasks per month and two-step Zaps when accessed October 7, 2026. A task allowance is not the same as an unlimited number of workflows, so estimate how many completed actions your automations will use. Check Zapier pricing for current terms.

Before moving a work process, check that the apps you use have the necessary connectors and that the free or paid plan supports the required steps, filters, team controls, and monthly task volume. IFTTT’s comparison lists Zapier among its business-oriented alternatives, but does not establish that it is superior for every business.
Make: visual workflows with branches and filters
Make is a strong candidate when you want to map a scenario visually and route data through branches or filters. Its official Free plan included a visual workflow builder, routers and filters, 3,000+ apps, and 1,000 credits per month when accessed October 7, 2026. Credits are Make’s usage unit; they do not necessarily equal one complete scenario run. Review how your particular scenario consumes credits and compare run intervals, error handling, and paid-plan costs. See Make pricing.
n8n: technical control and self-hosting
n8n makes a standard self-hosted Community Edition available, making it an option for people who want more control over where automation runs and are comfortable operating the software. Self-hosting also means taking responsibility for deployment, security, updates, and backups. The sources cited here do not establish an individual’s hosting or maintenance costs, so assess those against the convenience of a managed service. See n8n pricing and plans.
Choose n8n only if its technical flexibility fits your skills and operating capacity. Check integration coverage, whether you need custom code or API access, and whether a hosted plan better suits your maintenance needs.

Power Automate: Microsoft services and desktop automation
Power Automate is worth considering if your work already depends on Microsoft services or includes automating tasks on a desktop. Microsoft describes both cloud flows and desktop flows. Before choosing it, check your existing Microsoft licenses, whether the connectors you need are premium, and what governance or administration your organization requires. Desktop automation and cloud workflows solve different problems, so identify which one you actually need. See Microsoft Power Automate.
Home Assistant: smart-home control with a local-first approach
Home Assistant is the alternative to evaluate when your main goal is coordinating smart-home devices and you value local control and privacy. Its official site describes an open-source platform with 1,500+ integrations; that count was shown when accessed October 7, 2026. Check whether your specific devices work with it and whether your setup can meet your needs locally or relies on cloud services. See Home Assistant.
Home Assistant Green is dedicated hardware intended as a plug-and-play way to start running Home Assistant. Its official hardware page lists a recommended US MSRP of $199 before taxes and a European MSRP of €179 including applicable taxes; regional and retailer prices vary, so these are not guaranteed purchase prices. Green is a smart-home device, not a general business-automation product. A Zigbee or Thread accessory is not required for most devices or hubs; the Green FAQ says Thread support is under development. See Home Assistant Green and the Green FAQ.

Pipedream and Tasklet.ai: different kinds of alternatives
IFTTT also names Pipedream for code and API workflows, and Tasklet.ai for multi-step AI-agent tasks. These are not necessarily like-for-like replacements for deterministic trigger-action automation: an AI-agent task may behave differently from a fixed workflow, while code-oriented automation assumes a different level of technical involvement. Evaluate them against the exact task you need to run rather than treating them as interchangeable IFTTT substitutes. IFTTT’s descriptions are its own categorizations, not independent comparative findings.

It boasts 8GB end-to-end encrypted local storage, for device lists, configuration parameters, and automation configuration data. Additionally, it includes a mount and screws for flexible placement on flat surfaces, walls, or ceilings. Magic Pair technology ensures effortless detection by the Aqara Home app upon power-up.
What to compare before you switch
Rebuild one representative automation on the candidate platform before migrating a large set. A workflow that looks similar on paper may differ in device support, usage accounting, timing, error handling, or setup burden.
- Compatibility: confirm the exact apps, services, and devices you need—not just a headline integration count.
- Workflow shape: determine whether a trigger and action are enough, or whether you need multiple steps, branching, filtering, custom code, or desktop interaction.
- Usage limits: compare tasks, credits, or other plan-specific units against the work your automation performs. These units are not automatically comparable across providers.
- Timing and reliability needs: verify the available run interval and error-handling options for the plan you would use. The cited product pages do not establish comparative uptime or reliability.
- Ownership and administration: decide whether you want a managed service or are prepared to maintain a self-hosted instance, including its security and backups.
- Total cost and controls: check current paid-plan terms, premium connectors, team features, governance, and any required hardware before committing.
Is there a free IFTTT alternative?
Yes. The official pricing pages for Zapier and Make list free plans, and n8n offers a standard self-hosted Community Edition. Their free options are not equivalent: Zapier’s Free plan was listed with 100 tasks per month and two-step Zaps, while Make’s Free plan was listed with 1,000 credits per month and a visual builder when checked October 7, 2026. n8n’s self-hosted option requires you to operate the instance. Check each provider’s current terms before relying on a free tier for ongoing work.
These figures come from different vendors and use different limits, so they do not establish which service gives you more automation. The right comparison is the amount and type of work your own workflows consume.

Keep IFTTT if your automations are simple, your devices and services are supported, and low setup effort matters more than advanced workflow control. Consider an alternative when you can name a concrete requirement IFTTT does not meet—such as more elaborate business flows, visual routing, self-hosting, Microsoft desktop automation, or local smart-home control. IFTTT’s own comparison describes the choice as trading more power for less setup; that is its characterization of its product positioning, not an independent test.
