To stop friends from seeing your recently caught Pokémon in Pokémon GO, open Settings and turn off the option for sharing or showing recently caught Pokémon with friends. Niantic confirms that catch visibility is controlled in Settings, but does not specify the exact sub-menu or label, which can vary by app version.
Turn off recently caught Pokémon sharing

Open Pokémon GO and tap the Poké Ball button to open the main menu.

Find the option for showing or sharing recently caught Pokémon with friends and switch it off. Niantic’s official Friends and Friendship help page confirms the setting is in Settings, but does not name a specific sub-menu. Some players report finding it under Settings > General; if that path or wording is not present in your version, check the current Settings screen for the catch-sharing control.

This setting hides recent catches from the Pokémon GO friend-list profile. It does not remove friends or change other privacy controls.

What this setting does not hide
Catch visibility is only one part of Pokémon GO’s social privacy. Niantic’s friendship guidance describes other information friends may see or learn:

Gift and trade location: sending a Gift or trading may reveal location information.

Online status: friends can see that you are online when both players have set themselves to appear online.

Campfire catch posts: Catch & Share uses a separate audience choice. For a catch post whose location you do not want shown to others on the Campfire map, choose Only Me. Friends-only and public posts show the location to the selected audience, as explained in Campfire’s Catch & Share help article.

For a child’s Pokémon GO account
A parent or guardian can manage a child’s social permissions through Pokémon Trainer Central: open the child’s profile, select Pokémon GO under Apps & Games, then adjust the options in Permissions for Your Child.
Be careful with the broader Friends and Related Features permission: Pokémon GO support says disabling it permanently removes all friends from the child’s in-game Friend List. It is not just a control for hiding recent catches.

When removing a friend is the better option
If you want one person to stop seeing friend-list information altogether, you can remove that person instead of hiding recent catches from everyone. The person is not notified, but friendship bonuses stop, and removing a friend in one game also removes them from your friends in other games. See Niantic’s friendship help page for the friend controls and consequences.
