Samsung Electronics’ Memory Business posted record quarterly revenue and operating profit in Q2 2026, lifting the company to KRW 89.5 trillion in consolidated operating profit. Its Foundry Business improved and set a double-digit revenue-growth target for the second half, but Samsung did not report a separate Foundry revenue figure. TSMC, meanwhile, reported 54.6% year-over-year growth in September company-wide revenue. That points to stronger visible growth momentum at TSMC, but it is not a direct comparison of the two foundry businesses.
Why is Samsung making record profits?
Samsung reported Q2 2026 consolidated revenue of KRW 171.5 trillion and operating profit of KRW 89.5 trillion. The company said its Memory Business reached all-time highs in quarterly revenue and operating profit. Samsung attributed the record to AI demand, server-focused products, limited capacity and higher industry prices. The results were announced July 30, 2026, in Samsung’s Q2 results release.
The record is specifically a Memory Business record; it does not mean every Samsung semiconductor unit, or the company as a whole, set a record in both measures. Samsung’s release describes the Memory result but does not provide a separate Memory operating-profit amount here, so the share of consolidated profit attributable to memory cannot be calculated from these figures.

The cited Q2 figures establish that Memory Business operating profit hit an all-time quarterly high, but they do not state its amount. Samsung’s consolidated operating profit was KRW 89.5 trillion, yet the release does not give a segment-level Memory profit figure that would show how much of that total came from memory. A precise percentage or contribution cannot be derived from the reported information.

Is Samsung Foundry catching up with TSMC?
Samsung said Foundry earnings improved significantly before incentive-related provisions, citing demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) base dies and strong orders from U.S. customers. It did not state a separate Foundry revenue or operating-profit amount in the Q2 release. The improvement therefore should not be read as proof that Foundry was profitable, or as a quantified measure of how quickly it is gaining on TSMC.
Samsung’s stated goal was double-digit Foundry revenue growth in the second half of 2026. That is a management target, not a reported result, and the release does not provide a segment revenue baseline against which to calculate the target. TSMC’s newer monthly growth figures cover the whole company, not its foundry segment alone. They are useful context for momentum, but they do not establish a like-for-like foundry growth comparison.

How fast is TSMC growing?
TSMC reported Q2 2026 net revenue of US$40.20 billion and an operating margin of 60.3%, then guided to Q3 revenue of US$44.6 billion to US$45.8 billion. The Q2 results and Q3 outlook were published in July 2026 in TSMC’s quarterly results. The revenue range is guidance, not actual Q3 revenue.

What did Samsung forecast for Q3?
On October 8, Samsung issued Q3 2026 guidance estimating sales of KRW 194 trillion to KRW 196 trillion and operating profit of KRW 107.3 trillion to KRW 107.5 trillion. These are company estimates, not finalized results. Samsung’s announcement is available in its Q3 earnings guidance.
Samsung’s Q2 outlook also expected strong second-half demand for server DRAM, enterprise SSDs and HBM, citing AI infrastructure investment and wider adoption of agentic AI. The company said supply constraints were expected to continue even as production increased, and highlighted HBM4, DDR5 and SOCAMM2 among its high-value products. These are Samsung’s expectations, not independently confirmed market forecasts. Details appear in the Q2 results release.

When will the companies report finalized Q3 results?
As of October 9, 2026, neither company had finalized Q3 results available. TSMC’s Q3 results conference was scheduled for October 15, and Samsung’s Q3 earnings call for October 29, according to their respective Samsung earnings calendar and TSMC results schedule. Until those reports, TSMC’s Q3 revenue range and Samsung’s Q3 sales and profit ranges remain guidance.
Quick Recap
What the comparison does—and does not—show
- Samsung’s record: Memory reached all-time quarterly highs in revenue and operating profit, while consolidated Q2 operating profit was KRW 89.5 trillion.
- Samsung Foundry: The company reported improvement before incentive-related provisions and set a double-digit H2 revenue-growth target, but gave no separate Foundry revenue or operating-profit figure in the cited release.
- TSMC’s growth: September consolidated revenue rose 54.6% year over year, and January–September consolidated revenue rose 41.1%. Neither figure isolates its foundry business.
- Different measures: Samsung’s Foundry figure is a second-half target; TSMC’s reported percentages are monthly and year-to-date company-wide revenue growth. The periods and business scopes differ, so they cannot be treated as a same-period segment-growth calculation.
