Most Samsung Internet problems come from one of three places: the browser’s stored data, a single website, or the phone’s network connection. The fastest fix depends on which one is failing, so start by working out the scope of the problem. Then move through the checks below from the least disruptive to the most disruptive. Menu names change between One UI, Samsung Internet, and carrier versions, so use the closest current label on your device if a path below does not match exactly.
Step 1: Work out what is actually failing
Before changing any settings, answer four questions. Your answers decide which section below applies to you.
- Does only Samsung Internet fail, or do other apps also lose connection?
- Does every website fail, or only one site?
- Do pages load but videos stay blank or stop, or does nothing load at all?
- Does the problem follow the connection? Test whether it happens on both Wi-Fi and mobile data.
A quick way to separate these cases is to open a second website in Samsung Internet, then open the same site in another browser such as Chrome. If the other browser also fails, the cause is more likely the site, the network, or the phone’s connection than Samsung Internet itself. Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data and back to check whether the problem follows the connection.
Step 2: Fix slow browsing by clearing selected browsing data
Samsung’s US support guidance says that browsing data builds up over time and can slow the browser. Samsung’s wording is that Samsung Internet downloads files, cookies, and other data as you visit websites, and that too much of it can slow the browser down. Start by closing tabs you no longer need, since each open tab uses memory and bandwidth.

Then clear selected browsing data:
- Open Samsung Internet and tap the menu icon (labeled Tools or shown as three lines, depending on the version).
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Personal browsing data.
- Tap Delete browsing data.
- Choose the data types to remove, such as cache, cookies, and history, then confirm.
This removes browsing data inside the app without resetting the app itself. Before you confirm, be aware that clearing cookies signs you out of most websites, so you will need to log back in to them.
Step 3: Fix a website that will not load
If only one site fails, the problem is often that site’s stored data rather than the browser as a whole. Samsung UK’s support guidance says that if a website is not loading or working properly, clearing history, cache, and cookies can help. The trade-off is that you may need to log back in afterwards. Clear the site’s data first if your version offers that option. If it does not, use the general cleanup in Step 2.
Also check that JavaScript is allowed. Many sites will not play media or respond to input without it. The path in Samsung’s browser video troubleshooting guidance is:

- Open Samsung Internet and tap the menu.
- Tap Settings, then Sites and downloads.
- Tap Site permissions, then Allow JavaScript, and make sure it is switched on.
On some current layouts the labels are slightly different, so look for the closest matching option under Site permissions.
Step 4: Fix videos that will not play
Samsung’s browser video guidance lists a sequence of checks that you can work through in order:
- Install available updates. Check for updates to the Android system and to Samsung Internet. Samsung Internet can be updated through the Galaxy Store or the Google Play Store.
- Confirm JavaScript is enabled using the path in Step 3.
- Check the connection. Video needs a stable signal, so test with Wi-Fi and mobile data separately.
- Clear cookies, site data, and cached files using the method in Step 2.
- Optimize the device. Go to Settings > Device care and tap Optimize now if the option is shown. Device care may not display this option when it considers the phone already in “Great” condition, so its absence does not indicate a fault.
Step 5: Fix problems that affect several apps
If Samsung Internet is not the only app that cannot connect, the problem is probably the network rather than the browser. Google’s Android Help recommends these checks, in order:

- Restart the phone.
- Turn Wi-Fi off and test mobile data. Confirm that you have a data signal and that the apps can load pages.
- Reverse the test. Turn mobile data off, reconnect to Wi-Fi, and check that the Wi-Fi network is in range and has a working connection.
- Restart the home router if Wi-Fi is the problem. Unplug the router, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait for it to reconnect. Follow the router manufacturer’s instructions for your specific model if they differ.
- Contact your internet provider or network host if the connection remains unavailable after these steps.
Do not reset Samsung Internet while the whole connection is failing. The reset will not fix a network problem.

This step is more disruptive than clearing browsing data, so only use it when Steps 2 through 5 have not solved the problem. There are two different actions that people confuse:
- Delete browsing data is inside Samsung Internet and removes cache, cookies, and history, as described in Step 2.
- Clear data is in Android’s app storage settings. It resets Samsung Internet itself, and it can delete browser-specific information such as bookmarks and stored logins. Samsung Korea’s support article describes this as a browser-only reset. It does not target your phone photos, videos, contacts, or documents.
Before you clear app data, make sure you can sign in to your saved accounts without the browser’s password manager. Export or note any bookmarks you need. Then follow Samsung Korea’s path:

- Open Settings, then tap Apps (some versions say Applications).
- Tap Samsung Internet.
- Tap Storage, then Clear data.
Samsung Korea’s article is written for specific models and versions, so the wording on your phone may differ, and the steps are not universal English-language labels.
Step 7: Know what to do when the problem keeps coming back
If the problem continues after updates, network checks, and browser data cleanup, report it through Samsung Members or contact Samsung support. Samsung UK’s support guidance recommends Samsung Members for reporting unusual behavior. Gather these details before you contact Samsung, because they help support reproduce the problem:
- The phone or tablet model
- Android and One UI versions, if you know them
- The Samsung Internet version
- The website or action that fails, such as “video on a specific site stops after 10 seconds”
- When the problem happens
- Whether it happens on Wi-Fi, mobile data, or both
Crashes and other symptoms
Samsung’s official support pages covering this topic focus on slow browsing, page loading, video playback, and reporting unusual behavior. They do not give a separate set of steps for crashes. For a crash, work through Steps 2 and 4 first: update the browser and system, then clear browsing data. If the app still closes on its own, move on to Step 6 and then to Step 7.

Which fix to try first
The table below compares the checks by how much they disrupt your browsing and what they can cost you.

Samsung’s and Google’s guidance does not give failure-rate or prevalence figures for these problems, so use the sequence above as a practical order rather than a measure of how often each cause occurs.
