The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) is a repairability-first phone for people who want to keep a handset longer and replace worn or broken parts themselves. Its modular design, removable battery and software support listed through 2033 are compelling; its camera, gaming appeal and price are harder to justify against conventional rivals. Buy it for repairability and longevity, not as a performance bargain. Some reviews call it the “Fairphone 6 Plus,” but Fairphone’s official name is Fairphone (Gen. 6+).
What makes the Fairphone (Gen. 6+) different?
Fairphone says up to 12 parts can be replaced by the user, including the battery, display, cameras, USB-C port, speaker and earpiece. The parts are modular, and the company identifies a Torx T5 screwdriver as the tool needed for repairs. That gives owners a practical way to address common wear or breakage without treating the whole phone as disposable.
Repairability is the defining advantage, but it is not a guarantee that every repair is easy, free, or covered by warranty. Check Fairphone’s current repair instructions, parts availability, prices and warranty terms for your region before opening the phone.

#1 Best Overall
- Designed to Be Repaired, Not Replaced: The Fairphone Gen. 6+ is built around a 12-part modular design, so you can swap the battery, screen, speaker, or cameras yourself with just a screwdriver instead of replacing the whole phone. It's backed by a hardware warranty of up to five years and software support through 2033.
- Smooth Performance, Serious Durability: Powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and 12GB RAM, keeping apps fast and multitasking smooth. The 120Hz OLED display makes scrolling feel buttery, not choppy, and Gorilla Glass 7i plus IP55 splash-resistant means it can handle what your last phone couldn't. There's 256GB built in (expandable up to 2TB), so you're never trading photos for space.
- Less Noise, More You: Fairphone Moments lets you switch between full Android and a distraction-free mode with up to five essential apps of your choice. Working, traveling, or spending time with the people who matter - you decide what shows up on your screen, and what stays out of reach.
- US Carrier Compatibility: This Android smartphone supports AT&T and T-Mobile, and supported MVNOs on those networks. It is not supported on Verizon or Verizon-network MVNOs. 5G speeds require a 5G-enabled SIM/eSIM and supporting data plan, and availability varies by carrier and location.
- Google's Gemini AI Assistant, Built In: Use Gemini Live to identify what's in front of your camera, summarize the group chats you're behind on, or plan your day. Not interested in AI? You can easily toggle it off. Your phone, your call.
| Part | European listing | US listing |
|---|---|---|

| Main camera | €69.95 | $69.95 |
| Ultra-wide camera | €44.95 | Not stated on the US listing |

| USB-C port | €19.95 | $19.95 |
Fairphone’s US product page also presents an illustrative five-year ownership comparison: $798.85 for Fairphone versus an estimated $1,394 industry average. Those are company calculations based on an initial purchase and assumptions about battery degradation, screen replacement and USB-port replacement—not observed spending by a representative group of owners. Fairphone says its industry repair-price comparisons use official quotes from three flagship-brand competitors collected in July 2025, so neither figure should be read as a market-wide guarantee.
What do you get for the price?
The phone has a 6.3-inch 120Hz OLED display, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage expandable to 2TB, a removable 4,415mAh battery, a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera and a 32MP front camera. Fairphone rates it IP55, which is not the same as waterproofing. The company also describes it as military-grade drop tested; that is the manufacturer’s description, not a promise that the phone cannot be damaged.
The “Plus” model’s hardware change is relatively narrow. Fairphone lists a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and 12GB RAM for the Gen. 6+, compared with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 and 8GB RAM for the Gen. 6. Fairphone’s comparison page says the other listed specifications are identical. The company claims the Gen. 6+ can load and switch apps up to 24% faster and reduce system RAM reservation time by up to 20% versus its predecessor; these are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.

Fairphone’s comparison page displayed €649 for the Gen. 6+ and €599 for the Gen. 6 when accessed in 2026. The US product page displayed $649.99 and was marked out of stock on October 9, 2026. TechRadar reported launch pricing of $649.99 in the US and £569 in the UK. Prices and availability are volatile, so check the current listing for your country before buying.
How does it perform in everyday use?
The Gen. 6+ should be a capable everyday phone on paper, but available reviewer assessments do not establish it as a performance leader. TechRadar judged rivals stronger in performance and said the premium over the Gen. 6 was difficult to justify for the relatively limited changes. Fairphone’s claimed speed improvements are encouraging, but they do not substitute for independent comparisons of sustained performance or gaming.
That distinction matters most for demanding games and buyers comparing phones primarily by speed per dollar. If those are your priorities, compare independent tests of the specific alternatives you are considering rather than assuming the newer processor makes the Gen. 6+ a gaming phone.

Are the cameras good enough?
The camera hardware comprises a 50MP main sensor, 13MP ultra-wide and 32MP front camera, but megapixel counts do not establish photo quality. TechRadar and WIRED both assessed the cameras as trailing competitors. Those are reviewer judgments, not results from a standardized camera test in this review.

For casual photos, the setup may be adequate; for photography-first buying, consistent low-light performance, video quality and image processing matter more than the sensor figures. The available reviews suggest choosing another phone if camera quality is a leading requirement.
What is battery life like?
Fairphone advertises up to two days from the removable 4,415mAh battery. TechRadar reported roughly a day of average use in its review, a more useful expectation for typical purchase decisions than the manufacturer’s best-case claim. Actual runtime varies with signal, screen use, apps and settings.

TechRadar notes 30W wired charging and no wireless or reverse charging. The battery’s removability is a different kind of advantage: when capacity declines, owners can replace the component rather than rely solely on charging features or replace the phone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How long will Fairphone support it?
Fairphone lists software support through 2033 and says Android 16 is installed out of the box, with six OS upgrades promised. These are distinct statements: the 2033 date is the company’s stated support horizon, while six OS upgrades is an operating-system upgrade promise. Do not interpret the support date as a specific guaranteed number of years from every buyer’s purchase date.

Should you buy the Fairphone (Gen. 6+)?
| Consider it if… | Look elsewhere if… |
|---|---|
| You value user-replaceable parts and want the option to repair the phone. | You prioritize gaming performance or the strongest performance for the price. |
| You plan to keep a phone for years and value Fairphone’s stated support through 2033. | Camera performance is a top buying criterion. |
| You can confirm local parts availability, price and carrier compatibility. | You want a conventional flagship experience or wireless charging. |
Before buying, compare the Gen. 6+ with the Gen. 6 and other phones using the dimensions that affect your ownership: repair parts and their prices, support horizon, independent performance and camera tests, battery runtime and charging, regional availability, and carrier compatibility. A lower sticker price alone does not settle total ownership cost, just as Fairphone’s modeled savings do not predict what a particular owner will spend.
Regional availability and carrier checks
Availability and network support are country-specific. WIRED reported that the phone does not support Verizon and noted caveats with other US carriers. Confirm compatibility for your exact model, carrier and plan directly with both Fairphone and the carrier; do not assume a phone works on a network simply because it is sold in the same country.
