Some users reported trouble accessing Gemini on October 8, 2026, but Google did not post an incident for that date in the status information available later that day. Tom’s Guide reported that Downdetector submissions fell by 17:26 UTC and said the outage appeared over; Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard showed “No incidents” at 23:09 UTC. These are distinct signals: user reports indicate people were having problems, while Google’s dashboard is the official status snapshot.
Gemini outage timeline for October 8, 2026
The timeline below reflects the timestamps and observations reported by Tom’s Guide, which cited Downdetector submissions. Those submissions are not a verified tally of affected Gemini users.
- 16:20 UTC: Tom’s Guide opened its live report with around 1,700 Downdetector reports.
- 16:27 UTC: The report said Google’s Gemini status page showed “All systems operational” even as user reports were rising.
- 16:36 UTC: Tom’s Guide said the Downdetector count had passed 5,000. This was a third-party report snapshot, not a confirmed number of affected customers.
- 16:40 UTC: The report cited users seeing error 1155, displayed as “Something went wrong.”
- 16:47 UTC: Some users reportedly saw error code 13. Its meaning was not confirmed by the official Google sources reviewed.
- 16:58–17:09 UTC: Tom’s Guide noted that reports were declining and said one of its editors could access Gemini.
- 17:26 UTC: Tom’s Guide cited 355 reports, down from a little over 4,000 about an hour earlier, and said the outage appeared over. The same live report had earlier cited more than 5,000, so these snapshots should not be treated as a consistent peak measurement.
- 23:09 UTC: Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard showed “No incidents.”
Was Gemini officially confirmed to be down?
Google’s dashboard showed no incidents at 23:09 UTC, and the Gemini incident history accessed for this update did not list an October 8 event. Tom’s Guide’s account is evidence of user reports, not a Google confirmation. A clean status page at a particular time does not rule out earlier trouble or guarantee that Gemini is working for every user later.
The reports do not establish the outage’s cause, the number or location of affected customers, or an exact resolution time. The live report’s description of the outage duration was garbled, so no precise duration can be stated.

How to check whether Gemini is down now
- Open Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard. Gemini is among the monitored services. Check the timestamp and the service’s current status; the page can change after you view it.
- Check the incident history. Google’s status history records incidents Google has posted, but the absence of an entry does not prove that nobody experienced a problem.
- Compare with user reports. Downdetector reports can help show whether other people are reporting similar trouble, but submission counts are not confirmed affected-user totals.
Google says users can subscribe to the dashboard’s RSS feed for outage alerts. Its support documentation also describes JSON history and alerts that administrators can configure for Google Workspace service disruptions: Google Workspace Status Dashboard help.

Google’s incident history lists a separate event on September 11, 2026: intermittent elevated errors affecting a subset of Gemini 3.1 Pro users on Gemini Web and Gemini App. Google recorded a duration of 7 hours and 22 minutes and said the issue followed a recent rollout and was mitigated with a code change. That incident is background only; it does not establish the cause of the October 8 user reports.
