This is the New York Times Connections puzzle for Saturday, March 9, 2024, game #272—not the puzzle published on March 9, 2026. The reported category themes are below, with spoiler-light hints first. A verified tile-by-tile answer list is not available, so the words and group assignments are not guessed.
Spoiler-light hints for Connections #272
These are the reported category labels, rather than the sixteen tiles or a complete solution grid:
- Eat voraciously
- Areas of academic focus
- Universal
- SPACE___
The category labels come from an archive excerpt; the accessible material does not establish which four tiles belong to each group. [iTechGuides archive]

Readers discussing the puzzle mentioned guesses involving “things that are warm” and military ranks. The SPACE___ theme also invited a phrase-completion guess such as “space blanket”; commenters pointed instead to cues including “space bar” and “space cadet.” These are examples from player discussion, not official NYT explanations or a measure of how difficult the puzzle was. #1 Best Overall
The useful solving distinction is whether a candidate group is based on a shared meaning or whether the words complete a common phrase. A plausible association is not enough: check that all four tiles fit the same connection and that no tile is being pulled in by a tempting alternative.
What is confirmed—and what is not
The date and game number are corroborated by the contemporaneous discussion: March 9, 2024 was puzzle #272. The category themes are reported by an archive excerpt, but the full page was not accessible, and the discussion excerpts do not provide a reliable transcription of all sixteen tiles and their assignments. Therefore, a complete answer grid cannot be stated accurately from the available evidence.
Rank #2
March 9 alone is ambiguous across years. The March 9, 2026 puzzle was #1002 and is a different game; its answers do not belong to #272. [Date-disambiguation archive]
