Prophetic proposed Halo, a headband intended to help users enter lucid dreams and exercise some control over them. The company suggested people might use those dreams to rehearse a presentation or explore a problem, but the reports describing Halo did not establish that it could induce lucid dreams or produce useful work outcomes. Recognizing that you are dreaming is also different from controlling what happens next.
What was Prophetic’s Halo headband supposed to do?
Halo was presented as a device designed to induce lucid dreams: dreams in which a person realizes they are dreaming. Prophetic’s ambition went further than dream awareness. It wanted users to be able to direct some of what happened in the dream.
In a 2023 account, Fortune reported that Prophetic planned to use focused ultrasound aimed at brain areas the company associated with lucid dreaming, awareness and decision-making. That was the company’s proposed approach, not proof that Halo’s ultrasound could reliably induce lucid dreams. The cited reporting did not provide independently validated results from a Halo trial.

Can you keep working while you dream?
Not in the ordinary sense of continuing a workday while asleep. Prophetic’s idea was that a lucid dream might offer a setting for mental rehearsal or exploration. Founder and CEO Eric Wollberg described possible uses such as practicing a presentation, rehearsing an athlete’s plays or considering creative approaches to a problem.

Those were proposed possibilities, not demonstrated outcomes. Fortune’s reporting framed dream work as potentially useful for exploring approaches, not as a dependable way to retrieve a specific answer or complete a task. Halo was not shown in the cited coverage to improve job performance, solve problems or deliver measurable productivity gains.
Why lucid dreaming does not guarantee dream control
Knowing you are dreaming does not mean you can decide what the dream does. University of Montreal professor Antonio Zadra, who specializes in sleep and dreaming, cautioned that dreamers may forget they are dreaming or become excited and wake up. Even experienced lucid dreamers can find sustained control difficult.

Zadra described meditation, visualization and dream journaling as practices that may help someone work toward dream control. They are not guarantees that a person will become lucid, control a dream, or achieve a particular result in it.
What “Neuralink-linked” means—and does not mean
The connection reported in 2023 was a design connection, not a product or corporate endorsement. Fortune reported that Afshin Mehin, founder of Card79 and a designer of Neuralink’s N1 device, was working with Prophetic on Halo. That does not mean Neuralink made, endorsed or sold Halo.

Was Halo launched, and what was its expected price?
In November 2023, Fortune reported Prophetic’s expectation that Halo would ship in spring 2025 and estimated a price of about $1,500–$2,000. Futurism reported in December 2023 that the company expected the device to reach shelves in 2025 at the same estimated range. These were forecasts and an estimate made in 2023; they do not confirm that Halo launched or establish a current price or availability.
Fortune also reported in 2023 that Prophetic expected to draw on research from the Netherlands’ Donders Institute to inform target brain regions and ultrasound frequencies. The same report said the startup had raised $1.1 million in Series A funding from Escape Velocity, O’Shaughnessy Ventures and BoxGroup. Those development and funding details describe what was reported at that time; neither establishes that the device works.

What would show whether a dream headband works?
A credible evaluation would need to distinguish several claims that are easy to blur together. Evidence that a device changes brain activity would not by itself establish that it induces lucid dreams, and inducing lucid dreams would not prove that users can control them or benefit at work.
- Lucid-dream induction: Does the device increase lucid dreaming under independently tested conditions, compared with an appropriate control?
- Dream control: Can users reliably direct dream content after becoming lucid, rather than merely recognizing the dream?
- Practical benefit: Does dream rehearsal improve a real-world task, and is that result measured rather than inferred from a company’s examples?
- Independent validation: Are the findings reported and assessed by researchers beyond the company, with methods and outcomes clear enough to evaluate?
The 2023 accounts did not provide a named, independently validated efficacy statistic for Halo. Without such evidence, the device’s proposed mechanism and potential uses should be treated as goals, not established capabilities.
