You can usually limit delivery alerts in an app’s notification settings, but that does not necessarily turn off a proof-of-delivery photo or stop a service from sharing order information. The right control depends on what you mean by “delivery photo”: an alert about a delivery, a picture of a parcel at your door, a worker’s profile photo, or order data shared with a merchant.
Identify what you want to limit
These are separate things, and changing one setting does not necessarily change the others:
- Delivery notifications: push alerts, text messages, or emails about an order. You may be able to limit these by channel or message type.
- Proof-of-delivery photos: images showing where a parcel was left. Turning off an alert does not establish that the service will stop taking or retaining these photos.
- Worker profile photos: an image of the courier shown in an order-tracking view. Rules can depend on location.
- Order-data sharing: information about an order shared with a merchant. This is distinct from sharing a delivery photo.
App labels and available settings can vary by region and app version. Check the service and the specific order before assuming a setting controls every delivery.

Change delivery notification settings by service
| Service | Where to manage notifications | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| DoorDash | Account → Account Settings → Notifications | The documented controls cover order-update SMS preferences and app notification categories, including offers and recommendations. The help page does not document a dedicated proof-of-delivery photo toggle. |
| Uber Eats | Manage notification preferences in the Uber app or your phone’s settings. | Unsubscribing from marketing does not necessarily stop transactional messages, such as receipts and safety or privacy updates. The order-menu “Stop sharing” control is for order-history sharing with the store, not delivery photos. |
| Instacart | In the app, go to Account → Settings → Notifications. On the website, open account settings and then notifications. | You can select notification types. Turning off all order-update notifications also removes order-status alerts, including replacement and refund notices. Marketing preferences are separate. |

What to know about delivery photos on Amazon
Amazon retail orders
If tracking says an Amazon retail order was delivered, Amazon says to look in the order details for a delivery photo. Its privacy notice points generally to app and device notification settings, but the current guidance cited here does not confirm a customer-facing setting to disable Photo on Delivery. If you need an authoritative answer for a particular account or shipment, contact Amazon through the support channel attached to that order; that is a next step, not a guarantee the photo can be disabled.
See Amazon’s Find a delivery photo and Privacy Notice.

Amazon Shipping
Amazon Shipping is a distinct delivery service, so do not assume its practices apply to every Amazon retail order. Its customer-experience page says photo proof is provided for most shipments and that “Customers who receive email notifications also get the delivery photo directly in their inbox.” That describes Amazon Shipping notifications, not all Amazon orders. See Amazon Shipping customer experience, tools & support.

If the photo is of the delivery worker
A worker’s profile photo is different from a picture of a parcel at your door. DoorDash says a Dasher’s photo and first name must be shown to customers during California deliveries starting March 1, 2025, and that Dashers cannot opt out while dashing in California. DoorDash’s stated reason is a California legal requirement: “Providing customers with your photo and first name is required by law in California starting March 1.” This is a California-specific rule about the Dasher’s identity photo, not proof-of-delivery images. See the California Dasher Profile Pictures FAQ.

Choose the least disruptive setting
- If you only want fewer interruptions, adjust push, SMS, or email preferences rather than disabling every order update.
- If you want to stop marketing, use the marketing or promotional preference; it may not affect transactional messages about an order.
- If you want to limit order-data sharing, check the service’s specific sharing control and read what it covers. Uber’s “Stop sharing” option applies to order history shared with a store, not photo display.
- If you want proof photos disabled, do not infer that notification settings will do it. The cited DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Instacart help pages do not establish a dedicated proof-photo control, and current Amazon retail guidance cited here does not confirm one.
