If you want a game with the close-up perspective and survival-horror feel of Dementium II, start with Amnesia: The Dark Descent. For a different kind of dread, choose SOMA for underwater science-fiction horror or Alien: Isolation for a relentless pursuer. None is a one-to-one substitute: the strongest match depends on whether you value survival-horror framing, setting, or threat-driven tension most.

What makes a game feel like Dementium II?

Nintendo describes Dementium II as a Nintendo DS survival-horror adventure set around an escape from a sinister treatment center. Its listed features include sprawling 3D environments, puzzles, weapons, equipment, and a map. Players can wield weapons without putting away the flashlight, bringing combat and exploration together in a handheld-era first-person experience. Nintendo’s game listing provides that baseline.

There is also Dementium II HD, which Steam describes as a rebuilt version of the handheld game with updated visuals, lighting, and refined controls. Its listing characterizes the classic design as balancing action, story, and puzzles. The HD release is related to the DS original, but its presentation is explicitly rebuilt rather than identical. See the Steam listing for Dementium II HD.

For recommendations, the useful comparison points are perspective, whether combat is available or evasion is central, how much puzzles and exploration matter, the atmosphere and setting, and whether you prefer handheld-era design or a later presentation.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent — closest match for survival-horror framing

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is the clearest source-supported pick if what you want most is first-person survival horror: its official site identifies it in those terms. That makes it a strong match for perspective and genre, not necessarily for Dementium II’s weapon use, treatment-center setting, or balance of action and puzzles. The official Amnesia site describes the game.

SOMA — for underwater science-fiction horror

Choose SOMA if you want first-person horror in a very different environment. PlayStation places it at PATHOS-II, an underwater facility where the player encounters the horrors and remaining inhabitants of the site; Frictional Games describes it as sci-fi horror from the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The setting shifts from a treatment center to an isolated science-fiction facility. The available descriptions do not establish a direct match for Dementium II’s weapon use or puzzle design. PlayStation’s SOMA page and Frictional Games’ SOMA page give the official descriptions.

Alien: Isolation — for dread and an unpredictable pursuer

Pick Alien: Isolation if the appeal is being hunted rather than revisiting Dementium II’s setting or action-and-puzzle balance. PlayStation describes it as survival horror built around constant dread and mortal danger, with Amanda navigating a volatile world while pursued by an unpredictable Alien. It is a threat-driven alternative, not a documented match for the treatment-center environment or the original game’s mix of weapons and puzzles. PlayStation’s Alien: Isolation page outlines that premise.
