Tom’s Guide’s October 6, 2026 roundup named seven ice cream makers, with the GreenPan Frost Ice Cream Maker & Slushie Machine as its featured deal: $275, down from a listed $399. The article described it as a 2-quart machine that does not require pre-freezing, with six modes and seven texture settings. Those are prices and product details as reported by Tom’s Guide on that date—not confirmation that the deals remain available.

Here is what the roundup said about each machine, and how to compare them without treating uneven product descriptions as a head-to-head test. Read the original Tom’s Guide article.

What to know about each machine

GreenPan Frost: the featured no-pre-freezing option

Tom’s Guide listed the Frost at $275, compared with a stated former price of $399, and called that a $124 reduction. Its description gives a 2-quart bowl, six modes and seven texture settings, covering soft serve and frozen drinks as well as ice cream. The author also reported making ice cream in 30 minutes during an earlier test. That is the author’s account, not a result from a controlled comparison with the other six machines.

Ninja Creami Scoop & Swirl: programs with a soft-serve dispenser

The Scoop & Swirl was listed at $279, down from $349. The roundup describes 13 one-touch programs, six of them dedicated to soft serve, and notes that the pint attaches to a dispenser. That setup is the most explicit soft-serve feature in the article’s description of this Ninja model.

Black & Decker Perfect Pint: compact with dishwasher-safe removable parts

Tom’s Guide reported $129 against a former $169 price. The article highlights six one-touch functions, a small footprint and removable parts it describes as dishwasher-safe. It does not specify the machine’s capacity or prep timing in the deal listing.

Cuisinart Pure Indulgence: a 2-quart bowl at the lowest listed full-size price

The Pure Indulgence was listed at $79, down from $99. The article describes a 2-quart bowl for ice cream, yogurt and sorbet, and says frozen treats take 30 minutes. The roundup does not provide additional timing conditions or a side-by-side test basis for that figure.

Rank #4
Whynter Upright Automatic Ice Cream Maker, 2.1 Qt, ICM-201SB
  • CNN Best Ice Cream Maker: The Whynter Upright Automatic Ice Cream Maker was recognized by CNN in 2026 as a Best Tested maker for ice cream and more
  • Upright Space Saving Build: This ice cream maker stands tall, fitting your gelato or sorbet into a stainless steel housing with a smaller counter footprint
  • No Pre Freeze Compressor: A self-contained compressor freezes the mix as it churns, so no bowl waits in the freezer overnight and a second batch can follow the first the same afternoon
  • LCD Timer Control: An easy-to-read LCD control panel displays the run time at a glance, while the built-in audible timer signals when your batch is ready
  • Removable Stainless Bowl: The stainless bowl lifts out for serving and washing, and the BPA-free churn blade comes apart for a rinse rather than a full disassembly at the sink

Dash My Mug: individual servings with the clearest prep schedule

The two-pack was listed at $31 instead of $44. The article says each mug needs 24–48 hours in the freezer, ingredients need two hours to chill, and churning takes 20 minutes. For a firmer texture, it suggests an optional further three to four hours of freezing. This is the only product for which the roundup gives a full preparation schedule.

How to choose among the seven

  • For soft serve and frozen drinks: Compare the GreenPan’s stated soft-serve, slushie, milkshake and smoothie modes with the Scoop & Swirl’s six dedicated soft-serve settings and dispenser. The article’s descriptions do not establish which produces better results.
  • For a larger stated bowl: GreenPan Frost and Cuisinart Pure Indulgence are each described as 2-quart machines. The Chefman is listed at up to one pint, while the Dash is designed for single servings.
  • For minimal planning: The GreenPan is the only one in the roundup explicitly described as not needing pre-freezing. The Dash, by contrast, has specified advance freezing and chilling times. The article does not clearly establish the prep workflow for every other maker.
  • For cleanup or countertop fit: The article specifically calls the Black & Decker’s removable parts dishwasher-safe and notes its small footprint. It does not give comparable cleanup or footprint details for the other models.
  • For price: Use the reported figures as a dated snapshot, not as a current ranking. A lower listed price alone does not account for serving size, prep requirements or included functions.
