The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and POCO X8 Pro Max make different trade-offs: Samsung lists a more versatile rear-camera system, a higher-resolution display, an S Pen ecosystem and a stated long-term update policy; POCO emphasizes a much larger battery and faster wired charging. The POCO’s reported launch price is substantially lower, but there is no reliable universal price difference: compare current prices in your country at the same storage capacity.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs POCO X8 Pro Max: specifications

Specification Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra POCO X8 Pro Max
Processor Snapdragon 8 Elite. Samsung New Zealand lists CPU speeds up to 4.47GHz. MediaTek Dimensity 9500s, built on a 3nm process, according to POCO.
Display 6.9-inch full-rectangle QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X; 1–120Hz refresh rate. 6.83-inch AMOLED; 2772 × 1280 resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate.
Rear cameras 200MP main, 50MP ultrawide, 50MP 5x telephoto and 10MP 3x telephoto. 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and 8MP ultrawide.
Battery 5000mAh typical capacity; Samsung lists 4855mAh rated capacity in its New Zealand specifications. 8500mAh typical capacity, according to POCO.
Wired charging Samsung UK says up to 65% in about 30 minutes with a 45W adapter, sold separately. Up to 100W. POCO’s claim of 50% in 24 minutes uses its in-box charger and stated test conditions.
Memory and storage 12GB RAM; 256GB, 512GB or 1TB storage. 12GB RAM; 256GB or 512GB storage.
Water and dust resistance IP68 listed by Samsung New Zealand; Samsung UK describes freshwater laboratory conditions. POCO claims IP68 under specified laboratory conditions and exclusions.
Software support Samsung said the S25 series would receive seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. The POCO pages reviewed do not establish an equivalent support term.

Specifications describe different strengths, not measured results. For example, the higher camera megapixel counts do not by themselves establish better photos, and battery capacity does not establish how long a phone will last between charges. The cited manufacturer display brightness figures also use different qualifications, so they should not be treated as directly comparable.

How the displays and cameras differ

Display resolution and refresh rate

Samsung specifies a QHD+ panel, while POCO lists a 2772 × 1280 panel. Both advertise refresh rates up to 120Hz, but Samsung’s stated range begins at 1Hz. Those figures may help distinguish resolution and refresh specifications; they do not establish which screen looks better in every setting.

Camera reach and flexibility

The S25 Ultra has two listed telephoto cameras, at 3x and 5x, alongside its main and ultrawide cameras. That gives it more stated focal-length options than the POCO’s listed main and ultrawide pair. The specifications do not settle image quality: that requires comparable testing across cameras, lighting and zoom levels.

Battery and charging: the POCO’s paper advantage

POCO lists an 8500mAh typical battery and up to 100W charging, compared with Samsung’s 5000mAh typical battery and its UK charging claim of up to 65% in about 30 minutes using a separately sold 45W adapter. POCO’s 24-minute claim to reach 50% is based on its in-box charger and stated test conditions, so the charging figures do not use an identical setup.

Neither capacity nor charging wattage is a direct measure of everyday endurance. Screen settings, mobile signal, apps, software and usage all affect runtime. POCO also says the power adapter’s inclusion may vary by local seller; check the exact regional package before buying.

Price difference: compare the same market and storage

There is no single dependable global price gap. Samsung’s figures below are regional prices, while the POCO figures are reported launch prices—not a matched, current retailer comparison. Taxes, retailer offers, availability and storage configuration can change what a buyer actually pays.

Market or reference Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra POCO X8 Pro Max What the figures mean
United Kingdom 256GB: £1,249; 512GB: £1,349; 1TB: £1,549. Reported launch price: £469 for 12GB/256GB, with a further £50 for 512GB. Samsung’s amounts are original UK launch RRPs; TechRadar reported the POCO launch prices in its 2026 review. This is not a comparison of current offers.
New Zealand 256GB: NZ$2,399; 512GB: NZ$2,649; 1TB: NZ$3,149. Not stated for New Zealand in the cited sources. Samsung’s figures are listed on its New Zealand specifications page; they do not establish a local POCO price.
United States No matched current price established here. The reported $469 launch figure is a reference price, not proof of US availability. TechRadar cautioned that Xiaomi phones were not technically available in the US at the time of its report.

In the UK launch-price references, the POCO starts far below the S25 Ultra, including at the 256GB tier. For a purchase decision, check live listings for your country, match storage, and compare the final prices on the same date. Samsung’s UK announcement said the S25 Ultra became generally available on 7 February 2025; its launch RRP should not be presented as today’s street price.

Which phone should you choose?

Choose the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if

  • You want dedicated 3x and 5x telephoto cameras in addition to main and ultrawide cameras.
  • A QHD+ display, S Pen ecosystem or Samsung’s stated S25-series update policy matters to you.
  • You have checked the local price, warranty and current software terms for the exact model.

Consider the POCO X8 Pro Max if

  • You prioritize its larger listed battery and up-to-100W wired charging.
  • The lower reported UK launch-price reference reflects the value you are seeking, and the phone is available at a good current price in your market.
  • You have confirmed charger inclusion, warranty coverage, the exact regional model and compatibility with your carrier.

Check availability and network compatibility before importing

POCO says 5G availability depends on the market and local operator support, and that listed bands and Wi-Fi features may vary by region. Before buying an imported unit, verify the precise SKU against your carrier’s supported bands and confirm who handles warranty service. Do not assume an IP68 rating makes either device waterproof: manufacturers’ ratings are based on specified laboratory conditions and have limits.
