The 9 Best Free VPS Services in the USA are not all permanently free or even traditional VPSs. Antihost is our top pick for a self-managed Linux VPS in a U.S. region (USA East) with a 14-day free trial; Oracle Cloud is the strongest long-term free option when capacity is available, Google Cloud suits one small Linux VM, and AWS, Azure, DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Kamatera are mainly useful for learning or temporary trials; IBM Cloud is a cloud-hosting alternative with important limitations.
“Free VPS” describes several different offers. A provider may give you a virtual machine that remains free within a quota, a monthly free allowance, temporary promotional credit, or an application container that is not a VPS at all. The distinction matters if you need SSH, root-level control, persistent storage, background jobs, a public IP address, or an always-on service in a U.S. region.
This comparison was checked against provider information available on August 16, 2026. Promotional terms, free-tier eligibility, regional capacity, card requirements, and billing policies can change, so confirm the live signup terms before creating resources.
Key takeaways
- Antihost is our top pick: a self-managed Linux VPS with full root access, USA East as a core region, and a 14-day free trial rather than free-forever hosting.
- Oracle Cloud Free Tier is the strongest long-term free VPS-style option, but signup verification and regional capacity can prevent immediate access to the advertised Always Free resources.
- Google Cloud lists one eligible e2-micro Compute Engine instance per month in its non-expiring free tier, but only qualifying machine, region, disk, and network configurations remain free.
- AWS EC2 and Azure Virtual Machines are genuine VPS products, but their free access depends on account, service, credit, or time-period eligibility and can expose users to charges from attached resources.
- DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Kamatera provide conventional VPSs through promotional credits or trials rather than permanent free hosting.
- IBM Cloud Lite can be a free alternative, but IBM Lite is not always a traditional root-access VM.
What are the 9 Best Free VPS Services in the USA?
The best choice depends on what “free” means for your project. Choose Antihost if you want a self-managed Linux VPS with root access in a U.S. region and a 14-day free trial, Oracle Cloud if you need the best chance of a long-running free virtual machine, Google Cloud if one small Linux VM is enough, AWS or Azure if you are learning those ecosystems, and DigitalOcean, Vultr, or Kamatera if you need a normal VPS temporarily. Choose IBM Cloud Lite only when its managed-service limitations fit your application.

| Microsoft Azure | Introductory credits, 12-month services, and always-free services | Yes | Broad U.S. availability; offer eligibility varies | Credits and post-offer billing require monitoring | Windows and Microsoft-stack testing | Do not confuse a time-limited VM offer with free-forever hosting |
| IBM Cloud Lite | Always-free Lite plans with quotas | Not always | Verify the service and region | Lite plans do not incur charges, but paid upgrades and services can | Developer sandbox and managed services | Inactive applications can sleep and instances can be deleted |
| DigitalOcean | Promotional signup credit | Yes | U.S. locations are available; confirm current inventory | Credit expires and normal resource billing follows | Simple short-term VPS | No permanent free VPS |
| Vultr | Promotional trial or credit | Yes | U.S. locations are available; confirm current offer | Verification and trial expiry can lead to billing | VPS and networking tests | Offer terms vary by account and promotion |
| Kamatera | Time-limited customizable trial | Yes | U.S. locations are available; confirm current offer | Custom resources can consume trial credit quickly | Production-like temporary testing | Delete the server and related resources before trial expiry |
Last checked: August 16, 2026. “U.S. region” means that a U.S. location may exist; it does not guarantee that the free allocation is available there. Promotional offers can change independently of the underlying product.
How were these free VPS providers ranked?
The ranking prioritizes honesty and practical usefulness rather than the largest advertised RAM figure. The main criteria are whether the product is a real virtual machine, how long the free access lasts, whether a qualifying U.S. region is available, the CPU/RAM/storage/bandwidth ceiling, billing safety, signup friction, inactivity behavior, upgrade path, documentation, architecture compatibility, backup options, and network-policy restrictions.
Antihost is ranked first as a conventional root-access Linux VPS in a core U.S. region, even though its free period is a 14-day trial. Among the other providers, free-model duration and honesty receive the greatest weight because a 30-day trial should not outrank a smaller allowance that remains available indefinitely. VPS functionality, billing safety, and U.S. availability follow. Free resources are useful only when they are available to your account, in your selected region, and under a configuration that does not quietly create charges.

1. Is Antihost the best free VPS trial for a U.S. server?
Yes, if you want a full-control Linux VPS in a U.S. region and accept that the free part is a 14-day trial, not free-forever hosting. Antihost sells Linux VPS plans on AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D with NVMe storage and full root access, from 1 to 16 vCPUs and 2 to 64 GB RAM, with unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port and L3/L4 DDoS protection. USA East is one of its core regions, alongside the Netherlands and Ukraine.
Antihost offers one-click VPS images for Docker, Coolify, OpenClaw, OpenVPN, and Hermes Agent, and billing runs from 1 to 36 months once the trial ends. In our 13 October 2026 test of an Antihost VPS in Amsterdam (8 vCPUs on AMD EPYC Genoa, NVMe), fio reached about 195,000 random-read and 83,000 random-write IOPS at 4K with sequential reads of about 1.29 GiB/s, sysbench reached 47,025 events/s on 8 threads, and the network delivered about 0.9 Gbps. That test ran in Amsterdam, so it is not a U.S. benchmark.
What is Antihost best for?
- Self-hosted apps through the one-click Docker, Coolify, OpenClaw, OpenVPN, and Hermes Agent images.
- Linux administration practice with full root access.
- Bots, AI agents, and VPN projects that need a real server.
- Installing n8n yourself on a fresh VPS.
What are Antihost’s limitations?
Antihost VPS plans are self-managed: there is no cPanel and no Windows option. The free period is a 14-day trial, so confirm the live trial terms before creating resources and move to a paid plan or delete the server when it ends. US West, UK, and France are available on request rather than as core regions.
Verdict: Choose Antihost when you want a conventional, root-access Linux VPS in the USA for self-hosted apps and can work with a trial instead of a permanent allowance. Choose Oracle Cloud instead if permanent free access matters more than control and simple setup.

2. Is Oracle Cloud Free Tier the strongest long-term free option?
Yes, when Oracle has capacity and your account passes verification. Oracle Cloud is the strongest candidate for a permanently free VPS-style server because Oracle lists Always Free AMD-based Compute and Arm-based Ampere A1 Compute alongside a temporary trial. Oracle also provides conventional infrastructure features such as virtual networking, block storage, monitoring, logging, and SSH-capable instances. See Oracle’s official Free Tier terms and resource list.
Oracle also advertises a $300, 30-day trial. The trial is not the same as Always Free access: trial credit expires, while Always Free resources remain free only when they stay within the published limits and account rules.
What is Oracle Cloud best for?
- Long-running personal websites and APIs.
- Linux administration practice and Docker experiments.
- Lightweight databases and several small services, subject to quota.
- Personal automation, bots, monitoring, and development environments.
What are Oracle Cloud’s limitations?
Oracle’s free resources are not guaranteed simply because they appear on the plan page. Oracle states that capacity is subject to limits and availability can vary by region. A U.S. region may exist while the free shape is temporarily unavailable. Account verification is strict, and Oracle may suspend or terminate accounts under applicable policies, including inactivity or inaccurate account information.
Arm Ampere A1 instances can be attractive for free compute, but Arm is not x86. Most mainstream Linux software supports Arm, while proprietary binaries, older Docker images, Windows software, and architecture-specific packages may not. If your application requires x86, select an eligible AMD shape instead of assuming that every Always Free processor is interchangeable.
Oracle generally requests card or qualifying debit-card information for identity verification. Users can also create billable resources accidentally by selecting a paid shape, exceeding the Always Free allowance, or leaving paid storage, IP, snapshots, load balancers, or other services behind after deleting a VM.
Verdict: Oracle Cloud is the strongest free-forever choice in this list for a persistent Linux project if you can obtain capacity and carefully restrict the account to Always Free resources. Oracle Cloud is a poor choice when you need guaranteed capacity, simple billing, or effortless signup.
3. Is Google Cloud Free Tier a good small free VPS?
Google Cloud is the best polished option for one small, predictable Linux VM. Google lists one eligible e2-micro Compute Engine instance per month in its free tier and also advertises $300 in introductory credit for new customers. Google describes the free tier as non-expiring for eligible products, but the allowance applies only to qualifying configurations. Confirm the current rules on Google Cloud’s Free Tier page.
Rank #2
- Solid state performance with up to 800MB/s read speeds in a portable drive. (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, interface, usage conditions and other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Back up your content and memories on a storage solution that fits seamlessly into your mobile lifestyle.
- Take it with you on your adventures—up to two-meter drop protection means this durable drive can take a beating. (Based on internal testing.)
- Secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind thanks to the tough rubber hook.
- From Sandisk, a brand professional photographers trust to take on assignments.
The e2-micro allowance can suit a static website, basic API, lightweight bot, SSH practice, monitoring agent, or small automation task. The machine is not an all-purpose server: memory pressure, swap use, operating-system updates, databases, logs, and multiple services can exhaust a tiny VM quickly.
Which Google Cloud configurations qualify?
Google’s free Compute Engine allowance depends on the exact machine type, region, disk, and networking configuration. A larger VM funded by the $300 introductory credit is a temporary paid resource, not an indefinitely free upgrade. A reader should verify the machine type and region in the billing estimator or product documentation before deployment rather than assuming that every U.S. VM qualifies.
Google Cloud normally uses a billing account even when the workload fits the free tier. Public IPv4 addresses, disks, snapshots, outbound traffic, and unrelated services can create costs. Set billing alerts and delete resources that are not part of the eligible free configuration.
Verdict: Choose Google Cloud when a small Linux VM, a polished console, and strong documentation matter more than maximum free resources. Avoid Google Cloud if you cannot monitor attached services or need more memory than the eligible e2-micro configuration provides.
4. Is Amazon EC2 really a free VPS?
Amazon EC2 is a genuine VPS product, but its free eligibility depends on the current AWS account and offer. EC2 provides virtual servers, U.S. regions, mature networking, IAM, monitoring, and broad deployment tooling. AWS directs new users to its current Free Tier and EC2 information at AWS Free Tier and Amazon EC2.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsEC2 is especially valuable for AWS certification practice and learning security groups, VPCs, IAM, deployments, and cloud operations. It is also useful for a short-term prototype that may later move into paid AWS infrastructure.
Why is EC2 risky for a free VPS?
AWS has many billable surfaces beyond the virtual machine. Storage, public IPv4 addresses, snapshots, data transfer, load balancers, NAT gateways, managed databases, and monitoring can all affect the bill. Deleting an EC2 instance does not necessarily delete every associated resource.
Do not repeat the old blanket claim that “AWS is free for 12 months” without checking the account-creation date and current offer. AWS free eligibility can differ by account and product. Create a budget, configure billing alerts, identify the exact eligible instance and storage, and use a deletion checklist before starting a project.
Verdict: EC2 is one of the best free environments for learning AWS, not the best choice for a permanently free, low-maintenance VPS.

5. Is Microsoft Azure Free Account best for Windows testing?
Azure is the strongest option here for Windows Server, .NET, and Microsoft-integrated testing, but its VM access is generally time-limited or credit-based. Microsoft separates services that are free for the first 12 months from services that remain free while the account exists on its official Azure free-services page.
Azure supports both Linux virtual machines and Windows Server infrastructure. Azure is a good fit for .NET applications, Windows administration practice, Microsoft SQL experiments, Azure certification study, and temporary development environments.
Is Azure’s free VM permanent?
Do not describe the general Azure VM offer as a free-forever VPS. The exact allowance can refer to a 12-month service offer, introductory credit, a student account, or another current promotion. Disks, public IP addresses, outbound transfer, and services outside the allowance can consume credits or become billable.
Azure for Students may have separate eligibility rules and may not require a credit card, but the student offer is restricted to eligible students and should not be presented as the general U.S. free-account policy.
Verdict: Choose Azure for Windows or Microsoft-stack learning and temporary environments. Choose a simpler VPS provider for a basic Linux site when Azure’s ecosystem is unnecessary.

6. Is IBM Cloud Lite a free VPS alternative?
IBM Cloud Lite is an always-free cloud sandbox, but IBM Lite services are not automatically equivalent to a conventional root-access VPS. IBM says Lite plans do not expire and do not incur charges, with access to more than 40 Lite-plan products. The account and service rules are described on IBM Cloud’s free account page.
IBM Cloud Lite suits IBM Cloud learning, managed services, APIs, application experiments, and developer sandboxes. IBM also says payment details are required, even though Lite plans themselves do not incur charges.
Can IBM Cloud Lite sleep or delete an application?
Yes. IBM states that inactive applications can sleep after 10 days, and Lite service instances can be deleted after 30 days without development activity. Quota exhaustion can suspend a service until the monthly reset. Those rules make IBM Lite unsuitable for an important always-on bot, VPN, monitoring service, webhook receiver, or production website.

7. Is DigitalOcean good for a free VPS trial?
DigitalOcean is a good simple VPS after a short promotional trial, not a permanent free VPS. DigitalOcean Droplets are conventional virtual machines with a developer-friendly workflow, straightforward deployment, and a simple upgrade path. The current signup promotion should be checked on DigitalOcean’s official trial page because credit amount, duration, payment verification, and eligibility can change.
DigitalOcean is suitable for a tutorial, short-term staging server, temporary API, development project, or migration test. The provider is a good fit when the reader wants a normal VPS and accepts that the free period will end.
Droplets, volumes, backups, reserved resources, and other services can become billable after trial credit is exhausted or expires. Delete the Droplet and every related resource before the trial deadline if the project is not moving to paid hosting.
Verdict: Use DigitalOcean when simplicity and a conventional Linux VPS matter more than free-forever access. Do not select DigitalOcean expecting a permanent free plan.
8. Is Vultr a good free VPS for U.S. testing?
Vultr is a strong conventional VPS-testing option when a current promotional credit or trial is available. Vultr’s Cloud Compute product provides normal cloud servers, multiple operating-system choices, and U.S. locations. The underlying product is described on Vultr’s Cloud Compute page.
Vultr fits Linux distribution tests, temporary websites, game-server experiments, VPN and networking labs, and short-lived demos. Vultr is a traditional VPS rather than a managed application platform.
Vultr promotions may be limited to new accounts and may require payment verification. Trial credit and duration must be checked on the live U.S. signup flow. Unused servers, attached storage, backups, and IP resources can continue generating charges after a promotion ends.

9. Is Kamatera’s free VPS trial worth using?
Kamatera is useful for a customizable, time-limited cloud-server trial. Kamatera lets users test combinations of CPU, RAM, storage, operating system, and location, including U.S. data-center options. The current trial terms should be confirmed on Kamatera’s official trial page.
Kamatera is a good choice for production-like testing, a temporary staging environment, a specific U.S. location, or a project that needs a configurable server rather than a fixed free-tier machine.

What counts as a free VPS?
An Always Free VPS is a virtual machine that can remain free indefinitely while the account stays eligible and the VM remains within published quotas. A free-tier VPS is free only within monthly resource limits or during a defined account period. A trial VPS is an ordinary paid server temporarily funded by promotional credit.
Free app hosting is different: a managed runtime may deploy your code without giving you an operating system, root access, persistent disk, or an always-running process. A free cloud account can contain both free and paid services, so the account label does not make every resource free.
Calling a sleep-prone application container a VPS hides the most important limitation. A reader choosing hosting for a Discord bot, cron job, webhook, monitoring system, VPN, or game server must check whether the process sleeps, whether background work is supported, and whether the service can be deleted after inactivity.
Is a U.S. region guaranteed with a free VPS?
No. A provider can serve U.S. residents without offering the free resource in a U.S. region. “In the USA” can mean that the company accepts U.S. customers, has a U.S. data center, or makes a particular free VM available in a particular U.S. region. These are separate claims.
Google’s free Compute Engine allowance is especially sensitive to machine type and region eligibility. Oracle also states that capacity limits affect availability. Select the U.S. region first, then confirm that the chosen free shape, disk, and network configuration qualify. If capacity is unavailable, do not assume that repeatedly creating paid resources is a safe workaround.
Do free VPS providers require a credit card?
Card policy varies by provider, account type, country, promotion, and time. Oracle generally uses card or qualifying debit-card details for identity verification. IBM says payment details are required even though Lite plans themselves do not incur charges. AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Kamatera may use billing details or payment verification for account activation, trial eligibility, fraud prevention, or later upgrades.
Azure for Students can have separate eligibility rules and may not require a card, but student eligibility must be confirmed independently. Treat “no card required” as a signup-flow claim that must be checked immediately before registration, not as a permanent property of the provider.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCan a free VPS charge you?
Yes, unless the relevant plan explicitly blocks paid usage and you remain inside its rules. The most common billing surfaces are:
- Choosing a machine size, architecture, disk, or region outside the free allowance.
- Exceeding monthly CPU, storage, bandwidth, or request limits.
- Leaving volumes, snapshots, backups, or reserved public IPv4 addresses after deleting a VM.
- Enabling a NAT gateway, load balancer, managed database, logging add-on, or monitoring service.
- Allowing promotional credits to expire while resources continue running.
- Upgrading a free account to pay-as-you-go.
- Running multiple instances whose combined usage exceeds the account quota.
Before deploying, create billing alerts or a budget threshold where the provider supports them. Record the exact free resource, region, disk type, network allowance, and trial expiry date. After testing, inspect the account’s resource list rather than assuming that deleting the VM removed every billable component.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do free VPS servers sleep or get deleted?
Some free services sleep, reclaim, suspend, or delete resources; a free label is not an uptime guarantee. IBM explicitly says inactive applications can sleep after 10 days and Lite service instances can be deleted after 30 days without development activity. Quota exhaustion can also suspend an IBM Lite service until the monthly reset.
Managed application platforms can apply runtime or usage behavior that differs from a continuously running VM. Check the current pricing and runtime policy before using a free application service for background jobs, webhooks, monitoring, VPNs, game servers, or automation.

Do free VPS plans include root access?
Antihost VPS plans, Oracle Cloud, Google Compute Engine, AWS EC2, Azure Virtual Machines, DigitalOcean Droplets, Vultr Cloud Compute, and Kamatera cloud servers are conventional virtual machines that generally support SSH administration and operating-system-level control. Exact privileges still depend on the selected image and account configuration.
Managed application platforms provide container hosting rather than a full operating system. IBM Cloud Lite services vary and are not automatically root-access VMs. A container shell is not equivalent to root access on a server: the container does not give you control of the host kernel, system services, arbitrary ports, or the provider’s network layer.
What workloads fit on a free VPS?
Good candidates
- Static websites and low-traffic personal sites.
- Small WordPress installations with careful caching and optimization.
- Personal APIs and low-traffic dashboards.
- Linux, SSH, Docker, and cloud-administration practice.
- Small bots, limited Git runners, monitoring, and automation.
- Development and staging environments.
- WireGuard or VPN labs when the provider’s acceptable-use and network policies permit them.
Poor candidates
- Production e-commerce or business-critical websites.
- High-traffic services, video streaming, or large downloads.
- Large databases or AI inference.
- Cryptocurrency mining.
- Game servers with sustained CPU or memory use.
- Public services that require guaranteed uptime or provider support.
- Irreplaceable data stored without independent backups.
How should you choose among the nine providers?
| If you need… | Start with… | Why | Do not overlook… |
|---|---|---|---|
| A self-managed Linux VPS with root access in the U.S. | Antihost | Full root access, USA East as a core region, one-click images for Docker and other apps, and a 14-day free trial | Self-managed (no cPanel, no Windows) and the free period is a trial |
| A long-term free Linux server | Oracle Cloud | Always Free compute and conventional VM controls | Capacity, verification, quota, and Arm/x86 compatibility |
| One small VM with a polished interface | Google Cloud | Eligible e2-micro allowance does not expire | Exact region, machine, disk, and networking eligibility |

| A highly configurable trial server | Kamatera | Flexible CPU, RAM, storage, OS, and location choices | Trial consumption and automatic conversion terms |
How do you secure a free VPS before using it?
Use this provider-neutral checklist for a Linux VM. The commands below are examples for Ubuntu or Debian, not a complete security policy or universal provider procedure.
- Choose Ubuntu LTS or Debian and confirm that the image, region, disk, and machine qualify for the free offer.
- Add an SSH public key instead of relying on a password.
- Create a non-root administrative user and use least privilege.
- Enable automatic security updates where appropriate.
- Allow SSH only from trusted IP addresses when practical.
- Open ports 80 and 443 only when the server hosts a public website.
- Never expose a database directly to the public internet.
- Install fail2ban or an equivalent protection layer where appropriate.
- Set provider billing alerts before deploying the application.
- Back up application data outside the free VM and test restoration.
- Record trial and credit-expiration dates.
- Delete unused disks, snapshots, public IPs, load balancers, and other resources.
- Never store cloud API keys, SSH private keys, or bot tokens in a public repository.
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y
sudo adduser deploy
sudo usermod -aG sudo deploy
sudo apt install -y ufw
sudo ufw allow OpenSSH
sudo ufw enable
For a public website, open only the web ports that are required:
sudo ufw allow 80/tcp
sudo ufw allow 443/tcp
These commands alone do not secure a server. SSH key configuration, disabling password authentication after testing, timely updates, least privilege, backups, application security, and monitoring remain necessary.
When is a $3–$6-per-month VPS safer than free cloud hosting?
A low-cost conventional VPS can be the better choice when predictable monthly billing, persistent uptime, a fixed location, simple support, or a straightforward backup plan matters more than saving every dollar. A paid VPS can also be cheaper in time and risk than troubleshooting Oracle capacity, tracking cloud credits, cleaning up AWS resources, or responding to a trial-expiration bill.
Compare monthly price, included backups, IPv4 charges, bandwidth, data-center location, snapshot pricing, support, refund policy, DDoS protection, migration options, and upgrade choices. Free hosting is appropriate for learning and low-stakes projects; paid infrastructure is more sensible for a business-critical workload or irreplaceable data.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are free VPS services really free?
Some free VPS services are free indefinitely within published quotas, while others are limited to a monthly allowance, introductory credit, or a short trial. Oracle Cloud and Google Cloud offer the strongest permanent free VM-style options in this comparison; Antihost, DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Kamatera are trial or promotional offers rather than free-forever VPSs.
Which free VPS is best for 24/7 hosting?
Oracle Cloud is the strongest candidate for a permanently free, long-running VPS when Always Free capacity is available and the account remains eligible. Google Cloud can also run one eligible small VM continuously within its free allowance, but both providers require careful region, resource, quota, and billing checks; no free plan should be treated as a production uptime guarantee.
Can I get a free VPS without a credit card?
A credit card is not universally required, but card and payment verification policies vary by provider, account type, promotion, and date. Oracle generally requests card or qualifying debit-card information, IBM says payment details are required, and Azure for Students may have separate rules for eligible students. Confirm the current U.S. signup flow before registering.

Which providers have U.S. locations?
Antihost (USA East), Oracle Cloud, Google Cloud, AWS, Azure, DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Kamatera have U.S. locations or U.S. regional options, but a U.S. location does not guarantee that the free resource is available there. IBM Cloud Lite requires checking the specific service, deployment option, and current plan.
Can free VPS providers delete inactive servers?
Yes. IBM states that inactive applications can sleep after 10 days and Lite service instances can be deleted after 30 days without development activity. Managed application platforms can also impose sleep or usage rules, so check the current policy before using a free service for a bot, webhook, monitoring job, VPN, or other always-on workload.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Start with Antihost as our top pick if you want a self-managed Linux VPS with full root access in a U.S. region and a 14-day free trial. Choose Oracle Cloud if you want the best chance of a long-term free, SSH-capable Linux server and can tolerate capacity and verification friction. Choose Google Cloud for one small VM with a polished workflow. Use AWS or Azure for ecosystem-specific learning, DigitalOcean, Vultr, or Kamatera for temporary conventional VPS trials, and IBM Cloud Lite for a managed sandbox. Before deploying anything important, confirm the U.S. region, free-resource eligibility, card policy, inactivity rules, trial expiry, and every billable companion service.
