Verdict: Buy the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 if you want a full-size pad with Hall Effect sticks, motion controls and four extra remappable bumpers for about half the price of Nintendo’s first-party Pro Controller. Check the model name carefully: the separately sold Ultimate 2C Wireless is a Windows/Android controller with a 2.4G receiver, not the Switch 2 Bluetooth model.

What the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth offers on Switch 2

8BitDo lists the Bluetooth model as compatible with Switch 2 on firmware 20.1.1 and later. It pairs wirelessly over Bluetooth or works as a wired USB controller, giving Switch 2 owners a relatively inexpensive full-size alternative to Nintendo’s Pro Controller.

The feature list is unusually generous for the price: Hall Effect joysticks, six-axis motion control, rumble, turbo, a redesigned D-pad and bumpers, fast onboard button mapping, and additional L4/R4 rear bumpers. The PC Gamer verdict described the controller as “very close to perfect for its budget cost,” specifically praising its premium-feeling buttons, Hall Effect sticks and Hall Effect triggers.

Hall Effect sticks and triggers

Hall Effect sensors use magnetic measurement rather than the conventional physical contact arrangement used in many older analog controls. That design is intended to reduce the wear-related stick drift associated with traditional potentiometers, although it does not make a controller indestructible. The Ultimate 2C also has Hall Effect triggers, according to PC Gamer’s review.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Remapping and extra controls

The L4 and R4 bumpers sit beneath the main grips and can be assigned to other buttons. They are useful for keeping your thumbs on the sticks in shooters, action games or accessibility setups. Onboard mapping means assignments can be changed on the controller rather than requiring a separate software profile. Turbo is available for games where repeated button presses are useful, but competitive or Nintendo-approved online play may restrict or discourage such functions.

Switch 2 limitations to know before buying

It may not wake the console

A Switch 2-focused review summarizing Jessica Conditt’s testing found that the controller worked for gameplay but could not wake the console from sleep. You may need to press the physical power button on Switch 2 before using the controller. If waking the console from the sofa is essential, Nintendo’s first-party controller remains the safer choice.

No NFC or amiibo support

The Ultimate 2C has no NFC reader, so it cannot scan amiibo figures or cards. Keep an NFC-capable controller available if your games or collection depend on amiibo features.

D-pad precision caveat

The same Switch 2-focused review observed unintended diagonal inputs from the membrane D-pad during precision fighting-game play. This was a reviewer observation, not a standardized laboratory measurement. For ordinary platformers, menus and adventure games it may be irrelevant; players who rely on exact fighting-game diagonals should test the pad or choose a controller known for a firmer arcade-style D-pad.

Comfort, weight and build

Nintendo Life measured the Ultimate 2C at 225 g. That is lighter than the Switch Pro Controller at 246 g, the PlayStation 5 DualSense at 280 g and the Xbox Series S|X controller at 287 g. The low weight makes long sessions easy on the hands, although Nintendo Life noted that the casing may feel less durable after drops than a heavier premium controller.

The broad, full-size grip is intended for conventional two-stick play rather than compact travel. The extra rear bumpers add options without requiring a software app, but they can feel unnecessary if you never use remapping. Their presence also changes where your fingers rest, so players with a light grip should check that they do not trigger them accidentally.

Battery life and charging

8BitDo rates the controller’s 480 mAh rechargeable battery for up to 15 hours of play after a two-hour charge (8BitDo, 2026). Fifteen hours is a maximum rating, not a guaranteed session length: wireless conditions, rumble, motion controls and other usage can reduce runtime. A Switch 2-focused review reported that real use could fall short of the official figure.

No charging-dock option is listed for the Ultimate 2C, so plan to charge it by cable. If a drop-in dock is a priority, check the specific controller’s included accessories before purchase rather than assuming one is supplied.

Price and value

Nintendo Life listed the Ultimate 2C at $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 in 2025. At that price, it was described as a compelling alternative to Nintendo’s Pro Controller at roughly half the cost. Retail pricing, stock and color availability can change, so verify the current listing and firmware support before ordering.

That value comes from accepting a few omissions: no NFC, no reliable sleep-wake function, a lighter shell and a D-pad that may not satisfy precision fighting-game players. In exchange, you get Hall Effect sticks and triggers, motion controls, rumble, turbo and four extra buttons that are uncommon at this price.

The Pro Controller is the less compromised choice for buyers who need console wake, NFC or a heavier first-party shell. The Ultimate 2C is the stronger value choice when Hall Effect controls, rear buttons and low price matter more.

Who should buy it?

  • Buy the Bluetooth model if you want a full-size Switch 2 controller, Hall Effect sticks and extra remappable buttons at a low price.
  • Choose another controller if amiibo/NFC, waking Switch 2 from sleep, a heavier premium shell or highly exact fighting-game diagonals are non-negotiable.
  • Do not buy the Wireless model by mistake: its Windows/Android positioning and 2.4G receiver are different from the Switch 2 Bluetooth product.

Setup checklist for Switch 2

  1. Confirm the box or listing says “Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller for Nintendo Switch 2.”
  2. Update the controller to firmware 20.1.1 or newer using 8BitDo’s supported update process.
  3. On Switch 2, open the controller pairing screen and connect over Bluetooth, or attach the USB cable for wired play.
  4. Test the L4/R4 assignments, rumble and motion controls in a game before relying on them.
  5. Remember that the controller may not wake Switch 2; use the console’s power button when it is asleep.
