No—not as a recognized mobile standard or consumer network. The next generation in the international standards process is 6G, officially designated IMT-2030, and its technical standards work is still underway. The label “7G” may be used informally, but the reviewed standards material does not establish it as a generation after 6G.
Does 7G exist as an official wireless generation?
Not in the recognized International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) standards process documented by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). ITU named the next-generation program IMT-2030, widely referred to as 6G, and approved its framework in 2023. The framework is set out in Recommendation ITU-R M.2160.
This is a standards-based answer, not a claim that nobody has ever used “7G” informally. The official material reviewed identifies IMT-2030 as the next generation; it does not identify 7G as a subsequent standardized generation or a commercially available consumer network.

Is 7G available to consumers?
No recognized 7G consumer service is established by the cited ITU material. There are no mature, purchasable “6G versus 7G” network options to compare. Current 6G work concerns frameworks, draft requirements, and future evaluation—not a finished consumer network that can be subscribed to today.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
ITU’s framework describes possible 6G use scenarios, rather than services already offered to consumers. Likewise, technical requirements help evaluate candidate radio interfaces; they do not promise what an individual user will experience. ITU explicitly cautions that minimum performance requirements do not guarantee real-world deployment performance.
What comes after 5G? The 6G standards timeline
IMT-2030 is the next-generation program. Its standards process is moving forward, but key steps remain ahead. The distinction between draft work, approval, and commercial rollout matters: completing a draft is not the same as approving a standard, and a standards milestone is not a launch date for mobile service.

| IMT-2030 framework | ITU approved the framework in 2023, defining the program’s goals and expected scenarios. |
| Draft technical performance requirements | ITU-R Working Party 5D completed a draft report in February 2026. It sets minimum requirements for evaluating IMT-2030 radio interfaces; it is not a guarantee of network performance. |
| Draft evaluation guidelines | Working Party 5D completed the guidelines in June 2026. Both the requirements and guidelines were submitted to Study Group 5 for approval at its scheduled December 2026 meeting. As of October 11, 2026, that meeting is still in the future. |
| Candidate radio interface proposals | ITU’s invitation window is scheduled to run from February 2027 through February 2029. |
| Possible final standards approval | An ITU announcement in December 2023 described final 6G standards approval by 2030 as a possibility. This is a projected standards target, not a guaranteed approval date or commercial-service launch date. |
ITU’s February 2026 update on IMT-2030 requirements and June 2026 update on evaluation guidelines describe these draft milestones and their submission for approval. The December 2023 announcement on the 6G framework describes the longer-term standards outlook.

What is 6G being designed to support?
The IMT-2030 framework identifies 15 capabilities, nine derived from existing 5G systems, and describes expected scenarios including:
- Immersive communications.
- Hyper-reliable, low-latency communications.
- Ubiquitous connectivity and expanded access.
- Massive communications for the Internet of Things.
- AI and communications.
- Integrated sensing for navigation, positioning, detection, localization, imaging, and mapping.
These are design goals and possible application areas, not a promise that every 6G network will deliver every capability or that these services are available now. The framework was developed through an ITU process involving 193 Member States and more than 900 companies, universities, and international and regional organizations; those figures describe the organizations involved, not adoption of 6G.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
Do 6G performance requirements mean faster service is guaranteed?
No. In February 2026, Working Party 5D completed a draft set of 20 minimum technical performance requirements to help evaluate IMT-2030 radio interfaces. They are evaluation criteria, not forecasts of a customer’s speed, latency, coverage, or reliability. ITU states that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee real-world deployment performance.

Why do people talk about 7G?
“7G” can appear as an informal label or in speculation about what might follow 6G. That use does not make it an official standard or an available network. For current, standards-based information, the useful distinction is between IMT-2030’s developing framework and requirements, the future evaluation of candidate technologies, and actual commercial service. The official materials cited here establish the first stages for 6G, not a 7G program.
ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin said in the organization’s December 1, 2023 announcement: “By agreeing on a way forward on 6G, ITU Member States have taken an important step toward ensuring that technical progress is synonymous with affordability, security, and resilience — supporting sustainable development and digital transformation everywhere.”
