Seven built-in iPhone features can make everyday tasks easier: save guidance in Tips, surface useful information with widgets, automate a repeated action, tailor Focus notifications, use StandBy while charging, organize Reminders, and customize quick access. The steps below follow Apple’s iOS 26 guidance; labels and availability may differ by model, software version, region, language, or carrier.
1. Save useful ideas in the Tips app
Apple’s Tips app offers collections of guidance and regularly adds new tips. You can save one to revisit later, making it a handy place to explore features you may have overlooked.

- Open Tips and browse its collections.
- Open a tip that interests you and use its save option to keep it for later.
- If you want alerts when new tips are available, check the app’s notification options in Settings > Notifications > Tips.
Use it when you have a few minutes to discover a feature, rather than trying to remember every new capability at once. Apple’s Tips app guidance describes browsing and saving tips.

2. Put a useful widget where you will see it
A widget can show recurring information—such as weather, reminders, or battery levels—without requiring you to open an app. Some widgets also offer actions, such as marking a reminder complete. A Smart Stack can surface widgets based on signals such as time, location, and activity.

- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
- Tap Edit, then Add Widget (the wording or placement can vary by iOS version).
- Choose a widget, select its size, and tap Add Widget; then place it where it is easy to see and tap Done.
Choose a widget for a need that comes up repeatedly, rather than filling the screen with information you rarely check. See Apple’s widget instructions.
3. Automate one repeated task with Shortcuts
Shortcuts combines actions into a quick task, including actions that work with apps and their content. Its Gallery includes curated examples you can add and customize. Start with a routine you already repeat, and review what a shortcut does before relying on it.

- Open Shortcuts and tap Gallery.
- Browse or search for a shortcut relevant to your routine, then add it.
- Open it in your shortcuts and adjust any available settings or actions to fit your use.
- Run it once and confirm the result before making it part of your routine.
For example, a shortcut could combine several actions you choose, but the exact steps and app access depend on the shortcut and your setup. Apple explains how to create and use shortcuts.
4. Set Focus around a real context
Focus can temporarily silence notifications or allow notifications from selected people and apps. Configure those exceptions deliberately so a quieter screen does not mean missing someone important.

- Open Settings > Focus.
- Choose a Focus or tap the add button to create one.
- Set which people and apps are allowed to notify you, and configure any other options offered for that Focus.
- Turn it on from Control Center when the context applies, or configure an available schedule or automation.
Apple’s Focus setup guide covers silencing notifications and allowing selected people or apps.
5. Turn on StandBy for charging time
StandBy displays useful information while iPhone is charging. Apple’s setup is simple: connect the iPhone to a charger and position it on its side in landscape. A charging stand may make that position convenient, but it is not required.

- Use the available StandBy views to choose the display that suits the moment.

Reminders can hold project and grocery lists, and grocery lists can be categorized. You can also create a reminder that triggers when you arrive at a location. Location-based prompts depend on device settings and location access, so do not treat them as guaranteed in every circumstance.

- Open Reminders and create a list for a project, groceries, or another recurring need.
- Add items as reminders; for groceries, use the grocery-list option where available to categorize items.
- To make a location reminder, open or create a reminder, tap its details, enable the location option, and choose the relevant place or arrival condition.
- Check that Reminders has the location access needed for the alert to work.

7. Customize quick access to the things you use
Home Screen customization helps put frequently used apps and widgets within reach. Control Center can provide faster access to controls you choose. The gesture for opening Control Center depends on the iPhone: models with Face ID and models with a Home button use different gestures.
- To customize the Home Screen, touch and hold an empty area until the apps jiggle, then use the available edit controls to rearrange apps, change their appearance, or add widgets.
- To customize Control Center, open it using the gesture for your model, then use its edit controls to add or rearrange available controls.
- Follow the instructions for your iPhone model if the gestures or labels differ.
