Prefer not to run the server on your own PC? Godlike.Host offers hosted 7 Days to Die servers with free DDoS protection and up to three free backups a day.
7 Days to Die item IDs are internal text names, not numeric codes. In an enabled console, the usual way to create an item is to run giveself <item ID>, replacing the placeholder with the exact ID used by your game build. Administrative commands use the same console but require the appropriate permission level.
Because command names and item lists vary between releases, treat online lists as build-specific references. Use the in-game help command to confirm syntax and availability before relying on a command on a live world or server.

What an item ID is
An item ID is the internal identifier the game uses for an item. It is normally a word or mixed text string rather than a number. For example, gunMGT1AK47 is an item ID shown in current lists. The spelling, capitalization and punctuation must match the identifier recognized by your build.
The ID is not the display name players see in an inventory. “AK-47” (for example) and its internal ID are different kinds of labels. Console commands resolve the internal identifier, so a display name, partial phrase or translated name can fail even when the item is visible in the game.

Using giveself to add an item
The common item-spawn command is giveself. Open the game console, type the command followed by the item ID, and submit it:
giveself gunMGT1AK47
The command must be entered in the console, not in normal chat. You also need whatever permission level your single-player or multiplayer session requires. If the console reports an unknown command or cannot resolve the ID, first check the command with help giveself, then verify the item spelling against a list for your exact game version.
Finding an ID
Two searchable references commonly used by players are commands.gg, which presents paginated and searchable command and item information, and 7dtd.tools, which provides item data with copy-to-clipboard controls. These are convenient lookup tools, not a guarantee that every entry exists in your installed build.
Copy the complete internal name rather than retyping it. Keep the console command itself separate from explanatory text; only the command and its arguments should be submitted.
Console workflow: a reliable step-by-step method
- Confirm that you can use the console. In a local game, this is normally available to the host. On a multiplayer server, the server must grant you a permission level that allows the command.
- Open the console. Use the console key configured for your keyboard and platform. If the key does not open it, check the game’s current keyboard settings rather than assuming an old key binding still applies.
- Check command help. Enter
help giveself. The game displays the syntax supported by that build. This is safer than copying a parameter format from a guide written for another release. - Copy the exact ID. Use a current list or an ID exposed by your own build. Preserve capitalization; do not add quotation marks unless the in-game help explicitly shows them.
- Run the command. Enter
giveself <item ID>, replacing the bracketed text. For example:giveself gunMGT1AK47. - Check the result. Look in the expected inventory or container and read any console error. An error generally indicates a permission problem, an unsupported command, or an ID mismatch.
- Record the working syntax. If you administer a server, document the build number and the exact command form that worked. This prevents an update from silently invalidating an old instruction.
Why online item totals disagree
Item catalogs are version-dependent. One page reports 1,320 item IDs for V3.2, while a separate dedicated-server export reports 958 items for V3.3.0. The figures come from different versions and data sets and are not reconciled, so neither number should be presented as the universal item count.

| Reported total | Version or source description | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 1,320 IDs | V3.2 page; publisher not confirmed in the listing | A version-specific listing, not a guaranteed count for your installation |
| 958 items | V3.3.0 dedicated-server export; publisher not confirmed in the listing | An export for that server build and data set, not proof that other builds contain fewer items |
Differences can reflect a game update, a dedicated-server export rather than a client catalog, filtering, or changes in how a site counts variants. When an ID is missing from a web list, use the game’s own help output and the files for the installed build as the final check.
Permissions: who can run console commands
Commands run for players whose permission level meets the command’s requirement. In this permission model, level 0 is the maximum authority. A player without an explicitly assigned level has level 1000, which is much less privileged. A command that works for an administrator can therefore fail for an ordinary player even when both can open the console.
Granting administrator access
On a server, an administrator can grant level 0 with:
admin add <name, entity id or platform id> 0
Replace the placeholder with the player’s name, entity ID or platform ID. The target must be identified accurately; a name collision or typo can grant access to the wrong account or fail to match anyone.
Use lpi to list connected players and their IDs. Match the displayed identifier to the person you intend to authorize before running admin add.

Checking and changing command permissions
The cp command manages per-command permission settings:
cp listdisplays the current permission level for each command.cp <command> <level>sets the permission level for a particular command, using the syntax shown byhelp cpin your build.
Use the least privilege that fits the job. Granting level 0 broadly gives users access to administrative actions such as kicking, banning, changing time or shutting down the server. After changing a permission, test with a non-critical command and review cp list to confirm the setting.
Common moderation commands
These commands affect players and should be used only by trusted administrators. Always run help <command> first if your release may differ.
| Command | Purpose | Important syntax or limitation |
|---|---|---|
kick |
Removes a selected player from the server | Use the player identifier format displayed by your build’s help or player list |
kickall |
Removes all connected players | High-impact operation; its default permission is level 0 |
ban |
Bans a player | Durations can use minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years; confirm the exact argument order with help ban |
A temporary ban’s unit must be written in the form the command accepts, such as minutes or hours. Do not assume that a number without a unit means minutes; check the in-game help and state the intended duration explicitly.

Dedicated-server administration and serveradmin.xml
On dedicated servers, administrator data is persisted in serveradmin.xml. That file is the durable record to consider when an administrator assignment appears to survive a restart. Treat it as server configuration: back it up before manual changes, preserve valid XML formatting, and stop or follow the hosting provider’s documented maintenance procedure before editing files.
Prefer the in-game admin add command when possible, because it applies the server’s own identifier and permission handling. If access changes unexpectedly after a restart, inspect the persisted administrator data and compare it with the result of lpi and the current permission output.
Version checks before you trust a command list
Command references do not all cover the same release. The most recent reference located is dated September 28, 2026, yet is described as covering V3.1.0; other pages describe V3.2 and V3.3.0. That inconsistency means a page can be newer by publication date but older in game coverage.
Use this verification sequence after every game or server update:
- Run
helpto confirm that the command family exists. - Run
help <command>for the exact argument order and accepted options. - Run
cp listto see the permission level currently assigned to the command. - Run
lpiand verify the player identifier before changing administrator access. - Test item creation with a known, harmless item ID before using a rare or valuable item.
- Record the game/server version alongside any list you keep for staff.
Troubleshooting failed commands and item spawns
“Unknown command” or no help entry
The command may not exist in your release, may be disabled by the server, or may be misspelled. Enter help by itself, then search the displayed command names. If the command is absent, do not substitute a remembered syntax from another version.

“Permission denied” or no effect
Check your assigned level and the command’s requirement with the server owner. An unassigned player defaults to level 1000, while level 0 is the maximum permission. The owner can use cp list to see whether a per-command setting is stricter than expected.
The item ID is rejected
Copy the ID again, including capitalization, and compare it with a list for the same release. A valid ID in a V3.2 list may not be present in a V3.3.0 dedicated-server export, and vice versa. Run help giveself to confirm that the command is still available before investigating the catalog.
The wrong player was promoted
Use lpi to identify players by their displayed IDs, then correct the administrator assignment through the server’s documented permission commands. Avoid relying on a similar display name when an entity or platform ID is available.
Access disappears after a restart
On a dedicated server, check whether the expected administrator entry is persisted in serveradmin.xml. Make a backup before correcting configuration and verify the result after restarting with lpi and cp list.
Quick Recap
Safe operating practices
- Test commands on a backup or disposable world before using them on a shared server.
- Give level 0 only to people who need full administration.
- Announce disruptive actions such as
kickall, time changes orshutdownto connected players. - Keep an internal record of the game build, command syntax and permission changes.
- Use
saveworld(or itssaalias) before planned maintenance when your server’s help output confirms the alias. - Do not treat an online item-count headline as proof that an ID exists in your installation.
