Asylum Overhaul is a horror total-conversion mod for 7 Days to Die. It replaces the familiar survival loop with blacked-out nights, class-specific progression, hundreds of quests, and enemies that scale through multiple supernatural variants. The mod is substantially larger than a cosmetic add-on, but its version numbering is currently inconsistent across community listings, so you should verify the build and save requirements before starting a world.
What Asylum Overhaul changes
Asylum Overhaul is designed as a complete horror campaign rather than a small collection of weapons or textures. Its systems alter how you begin, how you progress, what you encounter at night, and how much content remains available after the early game. The central additions documented by community guides are seven playable classes, dedicated quest lines, escalating enemy forms, and a progression layer called Infernal Ascension.

This tiering changes preparation. A familiar enemy silhouette is not a reliable measure of threat: the variant label can matter as much as the creature type. Bring stronger ammunition, healing, repairs, and escape routes as your world advances instead of assuming that a base-game weapon remains adequate.
Named horror icons and demon bosses
A single guide identifies fan-made tributes to horror icons such as Freddy, Jason, Art the Clown, the Nun, and Chucky, with roughly 2,000 hit points each. The same guide lists 18 named midgame demon lords and 30 Uber demons with 50,000 hit points. These are guide-level claims and should be confirmed against the release notes for the build you install; they are not official statistics from the mod team.
A separate 2.4.4 release announcement from the 7 Days to Die Mods account on X describes 84 new Horror Icon entities and a demon-combat overhaul. Because that announcement is tied to a specific release line, it should not automatically be applied to the newer 3.2 branch.

Choose a class according to the kind of campaign you want to play, not only the starter items. The Enforcer is the clearest fit for players who want a weapons-centered route. Progression systems beyond the base game
Infernal Ascension
Infernal Ascension becomes available when you reach level 10 in each attribute. Quest and world scale
The commonly cited estimate of about 320 quests suggests a campaign with substantially more structured objectives than an unmodified playthrough. A separate version 3.0 description reports a bounty system containing 139 quests, two Asylum-exclusive points of interest, 150 new zombies, 12 mini-bosses, and 10 Uber Warden bosses. Those figures belong specifically to the 3.0 report and should not be merged with the approximately 320-quest estimate as though they describe one unchanged build.

Version compatibility: why the numbers conflict
There is no single, consistently documented “latest” version in the available listings. One source records version 3.2.2f, first published on 23 September 2026 for game version 3.2 and updated for game version 3.3 on 10 October 2026. A community-wiki infobox also lists 3.2.2f as latest, but the same page still identifies game version V3.0, which makes that entry potentially stale. Another release line, 2.4.4, is identified for 7 Days to Die v2.4b7.

Version 3.0 is specifically reported to require a brand-new save. No equivalent new-save requirement was found for 3.2.2f, so do not assume that an existing world is safe to reuse with that version. A major overhaul can add world-generation content and alter progression data; preserving a backup is essential even when a release note does not mandate a wipe.

- Match the mod release. Use the release description that explicitly names support for your game build. Do not choose solely by the highest-looking version number.
- Check the current changelog. Verify save requirements, dependencies, and known incompatibilities on the project’s official page or team Discord.
- Back up existing worlds. Copy your save and configuration files before adding the overhaul. Keep the backup outside the game’s save directory so an update cannot overwrite it.
- Use a separate test world. Start a fresh world first, especially when installing a branch that adds POIs, bosses, or a bounty system.
- Confirm the mod loaded. Check that the new class selection, altered darkness, and Asylum-specific quests appear before investing in a long-term base.
- Do not mix branches casually. Moving between 2.4.4, 3.0, and 3.2.2f without following the release’s migration guidance can leave content or progression in an unsupported state.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Installing for the wrong game build: a mod can load partially while still producing missing assets, crashes, or broken quests. Match both version numbers exactly.
- Reusing a mature save: the 3.0 report explicitly calls for a new world. Even where no requirement is published, a fresh test save is the safer choice.
- Treating guide totals as guarantees: quest, entity, and POI counts vary by release and are not developer-certified figures.
- Underestimating darkness: carry lighting before leaving shelter; pitch-black nights make navigation and target identification difficult.
- Preparing only for base enemies: escalation tiers can turn a familiar encounter into a high-health fight. Reserve ammunition and an escape plan for advanced variants.
- Downloading an unrelated project: a Nexus result numbered 12913 concerns an Ark modification system, not Asylum Overhaul. It is not an Asylum download or compatibility reference.
Who should play it?
Asylum Overhaul suits players who want a new campaign structure inside 7 Days to Die: class identity, dedicated objectives, horror-themed enemies, and a progression path that extends beyond standard perks. It is less suitable for a quick drop-in session or for a world that must remain compatible with ordinary saves and frequent mod changes.
Players who prefer careful preparation will benefit most. The combination of pitch-black nights, tiered enemies, boss encounters, and class quests rewards scouting, resource planning, and deliberate progression. Cooperative groups should agree on class roles before starting, since each player begins with a different campaign identity and starter kit.
What is confirmed, and what still needs checking
The reliable high-level picture is clear: this is a horror total conversion with seven classes, individual class quest chains, escalating enemy variants, darker nights, and additional progression systems. The exact release-specific details are not equally settled. Feature counts, boss totals, vehicle rosters, and Horror Icon numbers come from community guides or a release-specific social post, while version listings disagree about which game build is current.
For that reason, treat the project’s own release notes and team announcements as the final authority immediately before installation. If those sources contradict a wiki infobox or an older guide, follow the release note for the file you are actually downloading and start with a backed-up test world.
