AI is already being used in legal work, but the examples range from court translation and government-office support to legal-aid access and an AI-centered debt-recovery service. They are not interchangeable, and none of the sources establishes that AI acts as an autonomous lawyer or outperforms human work. Here are six deployments, with their users, tasks, and reported maturity clearly distinguished.
Six real deployments of AI in legal work
1. Ruby supports UK Ministry of Justice offices
The UK Justice AI Unit reports that Ruby is in production across most Ministry of Justice private office teams. It helps staff manage work in ministerial and senior-official offices. This is an internal government-office deployment, not a public-facing legal advice service. UK Justice AI Unit
2. AI turns court and tribunal proceedings into records
The Justice AI Unit also describes a transcription tool that converts oral decisions, evidence, and arguments into structured case notes and hearing records. The source does not give an accuracy rate or a full rollout date, so the example shows the task being supported, not how reliably or broadly it is performed. UK Justice AI Unit

A UK Government case study describes Garfield.Law as delivering legal services primarily through AI. Its focus is helping small and medium-sized businesses pursue unpaid debts through the small claims court. The description does not establish success rates or show that court representation is fully automated. UK Government case study

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
4. A law firm is developing an in-house tool
The same government case study describes a large law firm working with a LawTech company to develop an in-house AI tool for areas including conveyancing and family law. This is development work; the source does not characterize the tool as a mature production deployment. UK Government case study
5. Legal-aid practitioners received generative AI access
A Berkeley-led field study reports that 91 people received one to two months of paid access to generative AI tools. A randomly selected subset also received concierge support, including peer use cases, office hours, and assistance. The figure describes the study cohort and its access design; it does not by itself demonstrate a general productivity effect across legal-aid organizations. 6. Singapore’s Small Claims Tribunals used AI for translation
Singapore Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon described the courts’ initial generative AI deployment as on-demand translation of court documents into Chinese, Malay, and Tamil. He framed it as part of an incremental, measured approach. This is a specific court-document translation use, not evidence that AI decides claims. Supreme Court of Singapore

The examples support a comparison by task and maturity, not a ranking of which system works best. Ruby is reported in production; the law-firm tool is under development; the legal-aid example documents access to tools in a field-study cohort. The other descriptions identify tasks or services without supplying a common performance benchmark.

What these deployments do—and do not—show
Together, the cases show AI being applied to bounded tasks and workflows across government, courts, legal services, and legal aid. They do not establish comparative accuracy, time or cost savings, error rates, or case outcomes. No common benchmark in the cited descriptions supports declaring one deployment the most effective.
Human accountability remains important even when AI contributes to legal work. Singapore’s Ministry of Law states in its Guide for Using Generative AI in the Legal Sector: “Regardless of GenAI use, legal professionals remain fully accountable for all work product as part of their professional duties owed to clients and as officers of the Court.” Singapore Ministry of Law
