Arch Linux VPS hosting starts with Antihost VPS, our top pick for administrators who want a self-managed Linux VPS with full root access and are comfortable installing Arch themselves. Vultr is the strongest native-deployment candidate in this comparison. Hetzner Cloud offers the best price-to-resource value for experienced administrators, while Linode, DigitalOcean, and OVHcloud are better suited to users comfortable with custom images, rescue mode, or manual installation.

This comparison uses the latest available research snapshot from August 2026 rather than historical April pricing. Because VPS prices, image catalogs, regions, and IPv4 policies change, verify the live product page and provisioning panel before ordering. The six providers do not all offer Arch Linux in the same way.

Key takeaways

  • Antihost VPS is our top pick for a self-managed Linux VPS with full root access, NVMe storage, and a 14-day free trial, but you should confirm how you will install Arch before relying on it.
  • Vultr is the simplest choice when Arch Linux appears as a normal operating-system option in the current deployment panel.
  • Hetzner Cloud is the strongest value choice for administrators comfortable with rescue mode and writing an official Arch cloud image to a disk.
  • Linode/Akamai Cloud is attractive when documentation, web-console recovery, and mature VPS administration matter more than the lowest price.
  • DigitalOcean offers excellent APIs, firewalls, documentation, and integrated cloud services, but Arch generally requires a custom-image workflow rather than a standard image selection.
  • OVHcloud can suit infrastructure-focused users, but its exact Arch installation path, plan availability, pricing, and support terms require verification before purchase.

What does “Arch Linux VPS hosting” actually mean?

Arch Linux VPS hosting means renting a self-managed virtual machine and installing or selecting Arch Linux yourself. “Linux VPS support” does not automatically mean that a provider offers Arch Linux, maintains an Arch image, or supports troubleshooting inside the operating system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Providers generally support Arch through one of four deployment methods:

#1 Best Overall
Sandisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD, Up to 1050MB/s, USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2, IP65 Water and Dust Resistance, Updated Firmware, External Solid State Drive, SDSSDE61-2T00-G25
  • Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
  • Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
  • Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
  • Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
  • Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
Deployment method What happens Difficulty Main qualification
Native image Arch Linux appears in the ordinary operating-system selector. Easy Check whether the image is provider-maintained, official, minimal, or modified.
Official Arch cloud image You deploy an Arch image published for virtual machines and cloud environments. Moderate The image must match the VPS architecture and provider disk layout.
Custom image import You upload or import an Arch image, then create a server from it. Moderate Not every VPS product supports image uploads or custom snapshots.
Rescue mode or custom ISO You boot a rescue environment or attach an ISO and install Arch manually. Advanced The process can erase the disk and requires console or rescue access.

The ArchWiki VPS guide documents provider-specific workflows and notes that the official Arch cloud image includes Cloud-init and is intended to work with most cloud providers. The official Arch download page also provides virtual-machine images and image-verification instructions.

Which Arch Linux VPS provider is best?

Antihost VPS is our top pick for a self-managed Linux VPS with full root access, while Vultr is the strongest choice for the least complicated native Arch deployment and Hetzner Cloud is the best value for technically experienced users. Linode is the best recovery-and-documentation alternative. DigitalOcean is the best ecosystem choice, and OVHcloud makes sense when infrastructure flexibility or a particular location is more important than native Arch convenience.

Rank Provider Best for Arch position Main drawback
1 Antihost VPS Self-managed Linux VPS with full root access and NVMe storage Self-managed Linux VPS; Arch is not among its listed one-click images, so confirm the install route in the panel No ready-made Arch image listed; you handle the installation and maintenance yourself
2 Vultr Simple native Arch deployment and broad location choice Strongest apparent first-party Arch support; verify in the live panel Plan and price availability can vary by location and product family
3 Hetzner Cloud Price-to-resource value Manual deployment through rescue mode or an Arch cloud image More technical setup and separate cloud/dedicated workflows
4 Linode / Akamai Cloud Documentation and recovery tooling Arch workflow documented by the Arch community; verify current image availability Comparable resources may cost more than value-focused alternatives
5 DigitalOcean Beginner-friendly cloud management and APIs Usually a custom-image exercise rather than a standard Arch selector Premium pricing for equivalent basic VPS resources
6 OVHcloud Infrastructure breadth and custom installation flexibility Manual or custom installation route Setup and support experience may be less straightforward

How were these Arch Linux VPS services compared?

Arch availability receives more weight than generic VPS marketing. The important questions are whether Arch is selectable, whether an official image can be imported, whether rescue or ISO installation is available, and whether the provider offers a usable recovery console after an update goes wrong.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A fair price comparison also requires equivalent resources: roughly 1–2 vCPUs, 2–4 GB of RAM, 40–80 GB of SSD or NVMe storage, a stated transfer allowance, and a clearly identified IPv4 policy. A low-cost shared-vCPU VPS should not be compared with a dedicated-CPU instance without explaining the difference.

Prices are regional and date-sensitive. The requested “April 2026” date cannot be supported by the supplied evidence because the research snapshot was collected in August 2026. The following recommendations therefore describe current positioning rather than pretending that August prices were April prices.

1. Antihost VPS: best for a self-managed Linux VPS with full root access

Antihost VPS is our top pick for readers who want a self-managed Linux VPS and are comfortable setting up Arch Linux themselves. It runs on AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D hardware with NVMe storage and full root access, and there is no cPanel, so you control the whole system.

Why choose Antihost VPS?

  • Plans from 1 to 16 vCPUs and 2 to 64 GB of RAM, with unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port.
  • L3/L4 DDoS protection and billing periods from 1 to 36 months.
  • Regions in USA East, the Netherlands, and Ukraine, with US West, UK, and France on request.
  • A 14-day free trial, so you can test your Arch installation route before committing.
  • In our 13 Oct 2026 test of an Antihost VPS in Amsterdam (8 vCPUs on AMD EPYC Genoa, NVMe), fio measured about 195,000 random-read and 83,000 random-write IOPS at 4K, with about 0.9 Gbps of network throughput.

What should you verify?

Arch Linux is not among Antihost’s listed one-click VPS images (Docker, Coolify, OpenClaw, OpenVPN, and Hermes Agent are), so confirm in the panel how you will get Arch onto the server, for example through a custom image or ISO, before relying on it. The VPS is self-managed, so updates and recovery planning are your responsibility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verdict: Choose Antihost VPS when full root access, fast NVMe storage, and a free trial matter more than a ready-made Arch image.

2. Vultr: best for the simplest Arch deployment

Vultr is the strongest candidate for readers who want Arch Linux to behave like a normal provisioning choice instead of a rescue-mode project. Vultr documentation references Arch Linux among supported distributions and includes Arch-specific operational guidance, including package-keyring updates. Consult the Vultr documentation and confirm the image in the live deployment interface.

Why choose Vultr?

  • Arch can be available through the ordinary cloud-server deployment workflow.
  • The provider offers a broad location footprint, subject to plan and region.
  • The cloud-server interface is straightforward for short-lived development servers and self-hosted applications.
  • Custom ISO functionality is documented for Vultr products, providing an alternative if the normal image is unavailable.

What should you verify?

Do not assume that every Vultr product family, location, or CPU architecture offers the same Arch image. Before creating a server, check the exact image label, region, architecture, and whether the image includes Cloud-init, a provider agent, monitoring software, custom repositories, or other packages.

Check the total cost rather than the headline instance price. Backups, block storage, reserved or additional IPv4 addresses, bandwidth overages, and other services may be billed separately. Current pricing should be checked on Vultr’s pricing page.

Sandisk 1TB Portable SSD, Up to 800MB/s Read Speeds, Black (Old Model)
  • Solid state performance with up to 800MB/s read speeds in a portable drive. (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, interface, usage conditions and other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
  • Back up your content and memories on a storage solution that fits seamlessly into your mobile lifestyle.
  • Take it with you on your adventures—up to two-meter drop protection means this durable drive can take a beating. (Based on internal testing.)
  • Secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind thanks to the tough rubber hook.
  • From Sandisk, a brand professional photographers trust to take on assignments.

Verdict: Choose Vultr when fast, low-friction Arch deployment is more valuable than the absolute lowest price per gigabyte of RAM or storage.

3. Hetzner Cloud: best value for experienced administrators

Hetzner Cloud is the best value-oriented option for readers comfortable with manual installation. The ArchWiki documents a Hetzner Cloud workflow using rescue mode and the official Arch cloud image, with documented locations including Nuremberg, Falkenstein, Helsinki, Singapore, Hillsboro, and Ashburn.

Hetzner’s standard-image documentation lists Arch Linux as a minimal image for dedicated-server installation. That documentation must not be confused with automatic Arch availability on every Hetzner Cloud product. Hetzner Cloud and Hetzner dedicated servers use different installation interfaces and workflows.

What makes Hetzner attractive?

  • Strong price-to-resource value, subject to regional pricing and plan availability.
  • European and US locations on selected cloud plans.
  • Rescue mode, custom-image options, APIs, and automation features.
  • A minimal installation approach that gives experienced administrators control over the system.

What makes the installation difficult?

The ArchWiki-described workflow writes an Arch cloud image directly to the VPS disk. A representative sequence is:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
#cloud-config
vendor_data: {'enabled': false}
curl -O https://fastly.mirror.pkgbuild.com/images/latest/Arch-Linux-x86_64-cloudimg.qcow2
qemu-img convert -f qcow2 -O raw Arch-Linux-x86_64-cloudimg.qcow2 /dev/sda
reboot

These commands are based on the ArchWiki Hetzner workflow, not on a hands-on test for this article. The image URL can change, /dev/sda may not be the correct disk on another virtual machine, and the conversion command destroys existing disk contents. Confirm the architecture and target device before writing anything.

The ArchWiki also warns about Hetzner vendor data overriding distribution information and causing root-login problems unless vendor data is handled correctly. Hetzner’s Cloud FAQ separately warns that custom ISOs must support the server architecture, such as x86 or Arm64. The same FAQ states that a floating IP requires a primary IP of the same address type.

Verdict: Choose Hetzner Cloud for excellent resource value when you are comfortable with rescue mode, image writing, networking details, and independent backups.

4. Linode/Akamai Cloud: best for documentation and recovery

Linode, now part of Akamai Cloud, is a strong choice when administration, documentation, and out-of-band recovery matter more than the lowest monthly price. The ArchWiki documents a Linode workflow that starts by creating a server and selecting Arch if it is available, with rescue-mode and Lish-console steps for custom installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Linode’s platform provides a mature cloud manager, documentation, console access, and recovery tools. Those features are particularly valuable for Arch because a kernel, bootloader, initramfs, or package update can make SSH unavailable.

What should you check before deployment?

Verify that Arch is present in the current Linode image catalog for the chosen region and plan. If it is not, confirm the current custom-image or rescue installation procedure. The ArchWiki describes a direct-disk style configuration for custom deployments, so the reader should verify kernel, boot, and disk settings rather than assuming an Ubuntu-style image configuration will work.

Use Linode’s documentation for current console and image instructions, and check Linode pricing for the selected region and resources. Equivalent CPU, memory, storage, and transfer can cost more than at value-focused providers, but the extra administrative tooling may justify the difference.

5. DigitalOcean: best for cloud tooling and an approachable interface

DigitalOcean is an excellent general cloud platform but not the most convenient Arch Linux provider. DigitalOcean describes Droplets as Linux-based virtual machines and supports custom images; the current Linux-image documentation should be checked before assuming Arch appears in the ordinary image selector.

DigitalOcean’s official product and pricing pages currently advertise Droplets from $4 per month. According to DigitalOcean’s pricing documentation, Droplet billing uses per-second billing with a 60-second or $0.01 minimum, and powered-off Droplets continue billing while their resources remain reserved.

Why choose DigitalOcean?

  • Approachable control panel and extensive tutorials.
  • API, CLI, tags, Terraform support, cloud firewalls, monitoring, volumes, load balancers, and related services.
  • Custom-image support makes a self-managed Arch deployment technically possible.
  • DigitalOcean advertises a 99.99% Droplet uptime SLA on its product page; an SLA is not a guarantee that an Arch installation or application will remain available.

What will Arch cost beyond the Droplet?

DigitalOcean’s product page lists weekly backups at 20% of Droplet cost. Storage volumes, additional services, and transfer requirements can increase the total. Powered-off Droplets still incur charges, so destroy an unused Droplet when you no longer need the reserved resources.

Verdict: Choose DigitalOcean if you value integrated cloud services, APIs, and documentation and are willing to import or manually deploy an Arch image. Do not choose it solely because the interface makes generic Linux deployment easy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

6. OVHcloud: best for infrastructure breadth

OVHcloud suits readers who want a large infrastructure provider, particular regions, or a path from a small VPS toward broader infrastructure products. The ArchWiki includes OVHcloud in its VPS and dedicated-server installation guidance and describes an installation path through the provider’s management interface.

OVHcloud should be treated as a custom-installation candidate unless the current provisioning panel explicitly shows Arch Linux. Confirm whether the selected VPS range supports custom ISO attachment, custom image import, or only a restricted operating-system catalog. Product names, regions, bandwidth allowances, IPv4 policies, and installation options vary by country and product family.

Review the relevant OVHcloud VPS page and OVHcloud documentation before ordering. Also distinguish a VPS installation from dedicated-server installation; an Arch image available for one product does not prove that it is available for another.

Verdict: Choose OVHcloud when its regions, networking, or wider infrastructure catalog solve a requirement that a simpler VPS provider cannot.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should you compare before buying an Arch VPS?

Arch availability and installation friction

Record the exact image label, product family, region, architecture, and date checked. Classify the provider as easy if Arch is a normal image choice, moderate if an image must be uploaded, advanced if rescue or ISO installation is required, and unclear if no current first-party procedure is available.

Resources and price

Compare the same vCPU type, RAM, disk technology, storage size, transfer allowance, and billing period. Distinguish shared from dedicated vCPUs, local NVMe from network block storage, and guaranteed resources from burstable resources. Include IPv4, snapshots, backups, volumes, taxes, and overage charges.

  • NEARLY 2X FASTER THAN OUR PREVIOUS GENERATION(8) – move 1,000 high-res photos in under 60 seconds(6) with up to 2000MB/s transfer speeds(2).
  • IP65 RATING AND UP TO 3M DROP PROTECTION(3) – protects against spills and drops.
  • POCKET-SIZED – fits easily in pockets and small bags.
  • SPACE TO OWN YOUR AI CONTENT – speed and capacity to download your high-res clips and photo edits.
  • 256-BIT AES ENCRYPTION(4) – helps keep private files secure with password protection.

Locations and latency

Choose a region close to users and dependent services, but confirm that the selected plan is actually offered there. A provider-wide location list does not mean every architecture or instance type is available in every location.

Recovery

Prioritize web consoles, serial or out-of-band consoles, rescue mode, reinstall tools, snapshots, backups, custom ISO support, and APIs. Recovery access matters more on Arch than a polished initial deployment because rolling-release updates can require direct console troubleshooting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Network and billing

Check public IPv4 availability and price, IPv6 support, outbound traffic, overage rules, traffic pooling, floating-IP requirements, minimum billing, and whether powering off a server stops charges. The answer is provider- and product-specific; DigitalOcean, for example, continues billing powered-off Droplets.

Why choose Arch Linux on a VPS?

Arch provides a minimal base system, rolling-release packages, current kernels and software, broad package availability, extensive documentation, and unusually high control over the installed system. Those characteristics make Arch a good fit for development environments, build runners, VPNs, game servers, test infrastructure, and self-hosted services managed by experienced Linux users.

Arch is not automatically faster than Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, or another server distribution. Workload, CPU allocation, storage, I/O limits, network design, and system configuration usually matter more than the distribution name.

Who should avoid Arch on a VPS?

Arch is a poor fit for users who want a provider-managed operating system, infrequent maintenance, vendor-certified commercial software, or a control panel that assumes Ubuntu or Debian. Arch is also risky for critical services when the operator has no tested rollback strategy or recovery-console access.

Arch can run in production, but production use requires tested update procedures, monitoring, configuration management, backups, console or rescue access, a rollback plan, and personnel able to troubleshoot Arch. Arch’s rolling-release model means that service configuration, kernels, core libraries, and package requirements can change over time.

How do you provision and secure an Arch VPS?

The exact installation depends on the provider, but the operational sequence is similar.

Before deployment

  1. Choose x86_64 unless you specifically require Arm64.
  2. Confirm whether the provider offers a native Arch image, official cloud image, custom image, rescue mode, or custom ISO.
  3. Create an SSH key locally and verify that the provider will inject it.
  4. Decide whether the application needs IPv4, IPv6, or both.
  5. Enable a snapshot or backup if the provider offers one, and confirm its scope and retention.
  6. Confirm access to rescue mode or a web/serial console.
  7. Select a region near your users and dependent services.

After first login

Update the system before installing services:

sudo pacman -Syu

Create a non-root administrator and grant wheel-group sudo access:

useradd -m -G wheel -s /bin/bash admin
passwd admin
EDITOR=nano visudo

Enable the appropriate wheel line in sudoers. If the root account already has the injected SSH key, copy it carefully to the new account:

install -d -m 700 /home/admin/.ssh
install -m 600 /root/.ssh/authorized_keys /home/admin/.ssh/authorized_keys
chown -R admin:admin /home/admin/.ssh

Before disabling root SSH access, test the new login in a second terminal:

  • This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
  • The available storage capacity may vary.
ssh admin@SERVER_IP
sudo -v

Then review the SSH daemon configuration:

sudoedit /etc/ssh/sshd_config
PermitRootLogin no
PasswordAuthentication no
PubkeyAuthentication yes

Validate the configuration before reloading SSH:

sudo sshd -t
sudo systemctl reload sshd

The service may have a different name on a provider image. Do not disable root login until the replacement account works, and do not enable a host firewall until the firewall permits SSH and any required application ports.

How should you maintain Arch after deployment?

Use the normal full-system upgrade command:

sudo pacman -Syu

Before a significant update, read Arch News, take a provider snapshot, confirm console or rescue access, and avoid partial upgrades. Reboot when the kernel or core system libraries require it, then check for failed services:

systemctl --failed
journalctl -p 3 -xb

Do not use blind unattended upgrades for critical services unless the update process is tested and rollback is automated. A long-neglected Arch server can be harder to update safely than a regularly maintained one.

A provider snapshot is not automatically an independent backup. Snapshots can be region-bound, short-retention, provider-dependent, unavailable during an outage, or limited in what attached volumes they protect. Important data should also be copied to an independent backup destination and periodically restored in a test environment.

Which provider should you choose?

Your priority Best match Why
Self-managed Linux VPS with full root access Antihost VPS Full root access, NVMe storage, and a 14-day free trial; confirm your Arch installation route first.
Fastest, simplest Arch deployment Vultr Strongest apparent native or near-native Arch provisioning path; verify the live catalog.
Most resources for the money Hetzner Cloud Excellent value when you can perform rescue-mode or image-based installation.
Documentation and recovery access Linode/Akamai Cloud Mature administration, console access, and an Arch workflow documented by the Arch community.
APIs and integrated cloud services DigitalOcean Strong ecosystem, firewalls, volumes, monitoring, and automation despite custom-image friction.
Broad infrastructure portfolio OVHcloud Useful when regions or future infrastructure options matter more than one-click setup.

The practical shortlist is therefore not a universal price ranking. Pick Antihost VPS for a self-managed Linux VPS with full root access, Vultr for convenience, Hetzner for value, Linode for administration and recovery, DigitalOcean for ecosystem integration, and OVHcloud for infrastructure breadth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install Arch Linux on any VPS?

You can technically install Arch Linux on many x86_64 or Arm64 virtual machines, but a provider’s generic Linux support does not guarantee a supported Arch workflow. The provider must offer a native image, custom-image import, rescue mode, custom ISO, or another usable installation path, and the image must match the server architecture.

Which VPS providers offer Arch Linux natively?

Vultr is the strongest native-deployment candidate in this comparison, but the current image must be confirmed in the live provisioning panel. Linode may also show Arch depending on its current catalog. Hetzner Cloud, DigitalOcean, and OVHcloud should generally be approached as custom-image, rescue, or manual-installation options unless the selected product explicitly lists Arch.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Arch Linux good for a production VPS?

Arch Linux can be suitable for production when the team uses tested update procedures, monitoring, independent backups, configuration management, recovery-console access, and a rollback plan. Arch is a poor production fit for operators who need infrequent maintenance, long-term package stability, or vendor software certified specifically for another distribution.

Is Vultr better than Hetzner for Arch Linux?

Vultr is better for a simpler Arch deployment because Arch is the strongest apparent native-image candidate. Hetzner Cloud is often the better value choice for experienced administrators who are comfortable using rescue mode or deploying an official Arch cloud image manually.

Do VPS providers automatically back up an Arch server?

A VPS provider does not automatically provide complete, independent protection for every Arch server. Backups and snapshots are usually separate products or settings with provider-specific scope, retention, and restoration limits, so important data should also be copied to an independent backup destination.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Antihost VPS is our top pick for administrators who want a self-managed Linux VPS with full root access, as long as you confirm your Arch installation route first. Vultr is the easiest Arch Linux VPS choice when the live catalog offers Arch in your selected region and architecture. Hetzner Cloud delivers the strongest value for administrators who can perform a manual deployment. Linode is the safer operational choice when console recovery and documentation matter, DigitalOcean is strongest for cloud tooling, and OVHcloud is useful for broader infrastructure needs.
