The right small-business color inkjet depends on what you print and which office tasks the machine must handle. For refillable ink tanks, consider the Canon MAXIFY GX4020 family; for an office multifunction printer, the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-C5890; for a compact UK-market tank printer, the Brother DCP-T780DW; for a cartridge-based multifunction workflow, the HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e; and for tabloid or A3+ printing, the print-only Epson WorkForce Pro WF-7310. How to choose a small-business color inkjet
Start with your monthly print volume and the documents you handle. A refillable tank can reduce ongoing ink costs, but a higher purchase price may change the total cost of ownership. A cartridge printer may better suit a business that prioritizes office workflows over tank economics. Compare the printer price and the cost and yield of the exact replacement ink sold for your regional model; do not treat a manufacturer’s yield specification as a measured page cost.

- Check paper needs: look for the number of trays, input capacity, and support for the paper sizes you use, especially legal, tabloid, or A3+.
- Verify local availability: similar model names can refer to different regional versions or bundles. Confirm the exact model and features in your country before ordering.

Check the manufacturer’s local listing for the exact functions and configuration rather than assuming every suffix is identical. Office multifunction printer: Epson WorkForce Pro WF-C5890
For a business that needs an office-oriented multifunction model, the WF-C5890 is a candidate with clear manufacturer-published specifications. Epson America lists a print speed of 25 ISO pages per minute for both black and color, maximum replacement yields of 10,000 black pages and 5,000 color pages under Epson’s stated yield methodology, and a two-year limited warranty. Compact refillable choice for lighter work in the UK: Brother DCP-T780DW
ITPro describes the DCP-T780DW as a refillable ink-tank multifunction printer suited to home workers or micro-offices, with low reported running costs. Its limitations matter for office use: it has one paper tray, no fax, and an ADF that does not duplex-scan. If you regularly scan two-sided originals or need faxing or multiple paper stocks ready at once, choose a model with those specific capabilities. Cartridge multifunction option: HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e
The OfficeJet Pro 9135e is a four-in-one cartridge model for businesses that value multifunction workflows rather than refillable-tank economics. ITPro describes duplex printing and duplex-capable ADF workflows, and reports 22.1 pages per minute for black text in its 2025 review. That speed is a review finding, not a guaranteed rate for every job or setup; the review’s pricing and availability are also market- and date-specific. Tabloid or A3+ output: Epson WorkForce Pro WF-7310
Choose the WF-7310 if you need a small-office inkjet that can print wide-format documents. TechRadar’s guide, updated September 2, 2026, lists two trays, up to 500 sheets of total input capacity, and support for paper up to A3+/tabloid size. It is print-only, so it does not provide scanning or copying. TechRadar also warns that cartridge costs can make frequent color printing expensive; it is a more natural fit for occasional wide-format jobs than for high-volume color output. Are all-in-one printers good for small businesses?
They can be, if the included functions match the work. “All-in-one” does not guarantee fax support, multiple trays, or duplex scanning through the ADF. Check each workflow separately: printing on both sides is not the same as scanning both sides of a two-sided original. If your business only needs wide-format printing, the WF-7310 may fit despite being print-only; if you routinely copy or scan documents, that limitation rules it out.

What does “cheap” mean for a business printer?
Compare the expected ownership cost, not just the upfront price. A tank printer may cost more to buy and less to replenish; a cartridge model may have a different balance. Estimate your likely monthly pages, then compare the purchase price and the replacement ink cost and yield for the exact model and regional ink codes. Keep evidence on the same basis: a UK review’s reported costs should not be compared directly with US manufacturer yield claims, and published yields do not by themselves establish your real cost per page.
The UK GX7150 reviewed by ITPro illustrates the purchase-price versus ongoing-supply-cost tradeoff for a tank printer, but it is a separate regional model from the GX4020 family. Its prices and page-cost estimates are UK-specific, so they are not a direct cost comparison for US buyers or for the other printers here. Match replacement ink to the exact regional model before purchasing.

- For a refillable all-in-one: start with the Canon MAXIFY GX4020 family and verify your local suffix and features.
- For a manufacturer-specified office multifunction option: consider the Epson WF-C5890, checking regional warranty and availability.
- For lighter UK-market tank printing: consider the Brother DCP-T780DW only if its single tray, lack of fax, and non-duplex-scanning ADF suit your workflow.
- For cartridge-based office functions: consider the HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e, accounting for the regional and review-condition limits on its reported speed and pricing.
- For tabloid/A3+ printing without scanning or copying: consider the Epson WF-7310, especially if wide-format jobs are important enough to justify cartridge costs.
No single model here is established as the cheapest or best-performing in a comparable five-printer test. Treat the shortlist as a way to narrow by job, then verify local features, ink availability, and total cost for your expected volume.
